I'm queing up my ITEC reflexology case studies and I'm going to use my 5 yr old son. He is pretty overactive (I keep expecting his teachers to stick him in the ADHD box) and wondered if anyone has found reflexology helpful. Any tips on techniques?

It will help. However, have you checked that it is ok to use him as a case study? ITEC are really picky on this one so I would double check. Would be a good one to do though.

Have to say though I would (if you haven't already) look at his diet and see what is causing it. I am trained in an allergy elimination treatment and they have good success with all the problems beginning with A!!! (ie ADHD, Autism etc).

You would be surprised at how something like, say, orange juice could be triggering this.

Wish you luck! Have twin boys myself so know how hard it can be.

Hi Candie

Thanks for the continuingly useful advice. I checked with my tutor who has said he will be ok as a case study, I was quite surprised because for massage and aromatherapy it was minimum 16yrs. Only trouble will be pinning him down!

I have tried the elimination diet and monitoring what he eats, but to be honest he has a pretty wholesome diet and nothing has cropped up as trigger, I've also tried the EFAs, vitamins, cranial osteopathy etc. I have come to realise that this is just his personality, he has been like it since the second he was born, and a few minutes of relaxing reflexology will probably benefit me just as much. 😀

I'll let everyone know if I get dramatic results.

RE: Over active kids

Hi again. Two points:

Re food sensitivies, you would be surprised, it can be the most 'healthy' thing he is eating; milk, dairy, eggs, vitamins even. I practice a system called NAET which is an allergy elimination system and we treat kids also. The sensitivies are pinned down with applied kinesology muscle testing (you 'ask' the body for the answer).

If it becomes a problem then you could find a practitioner near you. Try for a practitioner list. It is fantastic, really. You cut the offending item out of the diet for 24 hours only and then you are clear and with kids the avoidance period can be even shorter. One of my clients was taking Vitamin A for mucous membrane problems and she is allergic to that and it made it worse. See what I mean?

Personality can come into it (I have a tricky son too so understand!) but sensitivities make it worse.

Back to Reflexology!

Things to remember; keep the treatment time short. Start with ten minutes and do him when he not likely to jump about ie when he is in bed. Build up the treatment time length as he gets more used to it.

Keep us posted!
