Hi
I am a newly qualified reflexologist and now hoping to promote myself, I am going to be offering mobile treatments and wondering what is the best equipment to use. Currently my therapy table in my home treatment room is very sturdy and comfortable but very heavy, I am now looking at buying something for mobile use and wondering if any mobile therapists have any advice please. I have looked at lighter tables but they can be expensive, I have also seen Lumar reclining chairs which say they are ideal for Reflexologists but wondering how comfortable they are for the clients feet, presumably you would still need a pillow? and then there are flat Reflexology chairs which tilt, the client sits in a normal arm chair?

Do you find that most people prefer the comfort and ease of their own armchair so the Reflexology stool more adaptable or do you find they dont mind or prefer to lie on a therapy table, I appreciate that some cant get onto a table so I would have to adapt, also is it ok to ask your client if you can play music, using my own cd player to help make the experience more relaxing.

Any advice on this or any other tips for mobile treatments would be really appreciated, I am a little nervous about the whole thing with being a novice!

Thank you

Hi Cherry. The LaFuma chairs are very portable and everyone I have had in mine has found it really comfortable. There is an Oxford company who specialise in reflexology and provide the chairs, covers, blankets, knee pillows etc This gets the client to an ideal height for you to work without putting lots of strain on your back.
When I was training I used to ask if I could play music in my case studies' homes but am now about to set up a room at home and very conscious that I probably need to get a license to play music during sessions.
If you are going to go to houses of people you do not know you must make sure you take sensible precautions e.g. tell someone your diary for the day, call someone as you enter a client's house and again when you come out so that they know you are safe.

Good luck

Hi,

I use a lafuma for mobile work and have a knee bolster and a half bolster for the ankles to rest on which is really comfortable. They are light and fit in the carry bag along with matching stool. I got it all from the Oxford reflexology school site reasonably priced.

Good luck

Cheryl

All my clients like my lafuma chair too, some fall asleep. It is adjustable with the neck pillow sliding down the backrest, so it fits most heights of people and it doesn't take up as much floorspace as a full massage couch. I also bought a stool from the Oxford School of Reflexology (same time as the lafuma), and some days I find it comfortable, but other times I use a very small stool I bought from a cheapy shop, which is actually a folding step to reach into cupboards. I often prefer to have my face a little lower than the provided stool goes, but it's personal preference. My decision is made based upon how my knees and back are on that particular day.

Good luck. I find reflexology both fascinating and effective, so push the benefits of mobile treatments, ie not having to drive when all chilled out, no worries re parking in town, etc.

Take care
Lesley

Yes will do, many thanks for your feedback, a little daunted over the whole mobile thing but only just starting off and can see the benefits for people wanting therapists to go to them.

Hi,

I have a Lafuma chair which is very portable and every client says how comfortable it is. You can buy a carrying bag to go with it. Have a look on eBay as I know several people who have bought brand new Lafuma chairs on there for £65 recently - bargain!
