Hello All!
I would like to know what people's opinions are on taking a cod liver oil supplement alongside a multi-vitamin & mineral supplement? There has obviously been some bad press about being able to easily overdose on Vitamins A & D but how does one go about taking a good multi-vitamin & mineral supplement and getting the numerous benefits from a fish oil without overdosing on Vitamins A & D?
Please be gentle with me - I'm new! Thank you!

RE: Cod Liver Oil & Multi-Vitamins
i believe cod liver oil has lots of vitamin d, but regular salmon oil does not. dr mercola recommends taking cod liver in winter and salmon in summer, because we do not get enough d from the sun in winter.

Thanks starfish, but my main concern is about overdosing on Vitamin A. A multi-vitamin and mineral supplement will have 100% RDA of Vitamin as will Cod Liver Oil taking the total up to 1600mg when the maximum limit is 1500mg per day and you haven't even taken into account your Vitamin A intake from food! Does Salmon oil contain Vitamin A as it might be a suitable alternative?
Does anyone else know of any other alternatives to Cod Liver Oil?
Thanks!!

wouldnt generally touch cod liver oil with a barge pole the quality is just not good and dont forget its an elimination organ.......flaxseed, MSM or glucosamine or general fish oils with DHA and EPA are a good bet depends what you want it for.....

RE: Cod Liver Oil & Multi-Vitamins
Have you looked at a combination supplement which offers the best of both worlds ie cod liver oil mixed with pure vegetable oils?
I have been taking an amazing product which combines Mega 3 and 9 natural fish oils with pure vegetable oils. They provide a natural source of refined and concentrated cold water fish oils that are high in polyunstuated fats. Plus as we all know, the Artic area is far less polluted than other seas and oceans.
I would keep away from the off the shelf stuff - you know that ones where you get 500 for £1.50 !! I have read some very scary stuff about whats exactly in them!
Email me and I can tell you where to get the Arctic oils from

RE: Cod Liver Oil & Multi-Vitamins
With regard to cod liver oil. My husband has a condition called ankylosing spondilitus (not sure of spelling) basically this is an arthritic condition of the spine. His father had this condition and was bent double. My husband inherited it, but for some reason the condition we are told isn't so severe now and he did the correct thing (although he didn't know it at the time) of keeping moving despite the pain so to look at him you wouldn't believe he had it. When he was in his late twenties early thirties he was in a great deal of pain and he read about taking cod liver oil. He tried this and within three months the pain had gone and he has taken it ever since. He does, on occasions, have trouble with back pain but it is fairly rare. He can take it off the spoon whereas I can only take capsules we also give it to our dog and she is frisky for a ten year old.
