RE: Sun noise
Well, sorry to get all scientific, but this is the science forum.
Sound is created due to a movement of particles. This movement is vibrationary (i.e. appears to go back and forth, although in reality it's travelling forwards at varying speeds, and this is what gives different frequencies.
As space is generally a vacuum you aren't going to hear anything from the sun as there are no particles for it's movement of energy to vibrate.
However, two things....
If you were to get close enough to the sun then you would come into it's atmosphere where there are particles of matter for it to vibrate, and I can only imagine that the sound would instantly deafen you (if we ignore the fact that you would have frazzled to death from the heat/radiation way before getting that close).
Secondly, the suns light acts as both waves and particles and comes in packets of energy called photons. Due to their ability to act as particles it is no doubt possible to set up some very sensitive microphone and amplifier and listen to the sound of light as it hits the microphone with different intensities i.e. a bright light making more noise than a dim light.
Let's just say, I won't be listening out for it in the near future. 😉

RE: Sun noise
Thank you Giles and everyone for your replies.
Giles, my guess is that due to the moving photons, the Sun's insidesemit a low roar. The Sun is a huge gas ball and movement of particles would be freer (vapour medium) and therefore the sound would 'escape' more easily and create a deafening roaring noise, albeit a low one.
This is how I envision Sun noise, and I wanted to find out what other's thoughts would be.
Love,
Patsy.

RE: Sun noise
sorry but New Physics (relativity, Quantum...)has found that ancient mysticism was right in the fact that space is not empty, there is no vaccum.
the "particles" theory and matter forming the building blocks of material reality is a Newtonian outdated Western perception of the world.
the world, like the body is not a huge mechanical clocks, with slightly unrealted objects orbiting one way or the other...
hence the sun makes a sound, even in space, as well asSaturn's music has been recorded recently and broadcasted on news channels.
I read elsewhere, Giles, that sound is matter in a different frequency, or that matter, if you like, is sound in a contracted way.
RE: Sun noise
Yes, in terms of old-fashioned Western science, the sun is silent (we don't hear it, right?). In terms of Vedic-style science, you just translate the fact that Light = vibration into another kind of 'Sound'. It would be a question of what instruments you use and how you translate the Light into an audible effect.
Would it be musical? Would it have harmonies? I don't know.

To the best of my knowledge, relativity has very little (or in fact nowt!) to do with the existence of vacuum, and I'd be interested to know how you relate quantum physics to it. 😮
There's enough vacuum to matter. If you had two spacemen in spaceone holding loud speakers blaring out sound and the other listening for it, that second spaceman wouldn't hear it. 😉

In fact the Newtonian particles theory alone is outdated, but the combination of particles and wave theory are still perfectly relevant as Einstein showed in his works of the early 1900's. Particle theory itself is perfectly relevent when talking about sound in basic terms which is what I think we're talking about on this thread. 😉

You might want to clarify that, cos I don't know what your saying?

Well that depends what has been recorded. Was it actual sound, as in vibrating particles, or was it the EMF radiation emitted by the planet that has been recorded and converted into sound just like we transmit our terrestrial radio stations? Do you have links to this information that we could refer to?

Everything is energy. Matter is energy, sound is energy and therefore sound is matter.
When was the last time you heard the roar of the sun through the vacuum of space?
