RE: How can nothing exist?
Surely nothing is something we humans have 'invented' yet doesn't actually exist?
ie. "I did nothing friday night..." but of course you did something
RE: How can nothing exist?
That question is really cryptic!!!
Could you be more specific perhaps???????

How can nothing exist?
Without "nothing" we would not have something to compare things against to realise that there is in fact something. Recognising the existence of something is a human trait that requires that we recognise "nothing" so that we can recognise "something" otherwise the "something" has no quality to it and we would not even recognise our own existence. (I'm getting the feeling this should be in the Philosophy forum, but we'll stick with here for now).
In mathematical terms, the number zero (0) never used to exist but then it was recognised that it was needed to allow mathematics to work.
If you look at the distance between numbers without 0 you would have.
... -2, -1, 1, 2 ....
So if you took it as being a single unit of distance between each of these then sums like:
1minus -1 would equal 1. But we all know that 1 minus -1 is 2.
If we include the 0
... -2, -1, 0, 1, 2 ....
Then this sum will now work as we can see that the distance between -1 and 1 is in fact 2 units. So 1 minus -1 = 2.
We'd be lost without that 0 or nothing value.
