RE: Another Question!!

Totally agree, Andrew.

As with so many things that are discussed on HP, it comes down to "What is proof? What is science?" Those who believe that science is some hard, objective, trustworthy thing would be somewhat dishearted if they read up on philosophical and social studies into the phenomenon of science itself.

BTW, it's January. Blood-letting for a cold, anyone? Of course, that practice of 'science' is history; but today is tomorrow's history as well. Overall, in relation to this thread, I find science to be backward and holding on to past and passe concepts; the hard-science ideal doesn't all fit into the modern world. Of course, other ways of viewing and dealing with the world have arisen. (I'm just trying to find time to get into Rimpoche's "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying", an ancient view which appears to be quite factually based.)

Science can be so sceptical that i literally do know people who have evidence that's replicable for this or that paranormal phenomenon or ability, but would never waste their time demonstrating it in any lab.

<cut>the point that even the scientific method itself has many subjective components... something that scientists themselves seem to avoid mentioning

Yep, there are scientists out there who have been brought up with their scientific teachings; being told what is fact and what is fiction and, unfortunately, they just believe what they are told. However, this also happens in various spiritual (to use a general term) teachings. People learning something like Reiki vary greatly. There are those who just take the word of their Reiki master as fact such as believing the Reiki myths that you should not treata broken bone or someone with a pacemaker, or you should ask clients to remove all jewellery before a treatment.

However with scientists and non-scientists alike, there are also those who are a little more open-minded and willing to research a little for themselves, exploring the supposed facts to determine if they really are fact or if they are a belief or theory.

I myself do Reiki, but I also have a good understanding of science and I'm constantly reading up in both areas and gaining enough knowledge to allow me to make my own decision about things. I'm currently reading books by John Gribbin (a Science writer and also an Astrophysicist and Science fiction writer) which deal with the history and facts about quantum physics. The one fact that he does give in these books is that quantum theory is just that... "a theory", and it's been open to many interpretations over the years of it's development, as well as the various interpretations being strengthened purely because of scientists who shout the loudest (Bohm I think it was) whilst others had their interpretations dis-proven by mathematicians (later to have their own mathematics proven to contain errors meaning the original quantum interpretation could in fact have been correct, but too late), and now more wild interpretations, such as the many-world theory, coming to the forefront. Although most of the interpretations are working models of the quantum world and fit will existing experimental proofs, there is actually no proof whatsoever than any of them are actually factually and totally correct.

So, as much as some scientists may want to rubbish other peoples beliefs, especially when it comes to "spiritual" matters, there is as much proof scientifically about these spiritual matters as there is for the scientific matters. IMHO, Anything is possible. You just need to talk to the right scientists. 😉

Love and Reiki Hugs

RE: Another Question!!

I think that would be a pretty hard secret to keep.
