I am thinking of getting a pair of lovebirds. Does anyone have or know anything about these birds to give me some advise.

They are real characters. Can be very noisey and very messy. They love companionship and their name is a complete misnomer (sp) roflmao!!!!!!!!
If you have more than one they can bond together very strongly.
One of mine got out once and I had to leave the window open and hope she would fly back in again while I had to go to work.
She did, (I left a branch sticking out of the window for her to land on and climb back inside!!! god alone knows what the neighbours thought!!!) anyway, when I got home in the evening, she was sitting on top of the cage waiting for me to let her back into to join her mate!!!!!

RE: lovebirds
I was looking at websites about keeping birds and saw this. Very good
Social Needs & Amusement
The remarkable intelligence of parrots requires that they have a varied and stimulating environment. Parrots that have been severely neglected have been known to literally "go insane," rocking in the cage, mutilating themselves horribly, or falling into a deep depression. If you do not think you will have time for your bird, do not buy a bird. If you find you can't give the bird the proper attention, find it a good home (and don't ask someone to pay you what you paid for a healthy, happy young bird) where it will get the proper attention. This is a living, breathing, thinking, feeling creature. Any cruelty you show it (and simply neglect is cruelty) will come back your way somehow--that's the way the universe works in my opinion. So beware your indifference! If these comments do not apply to you, pardon my ferocity; I simply have strong feelings about the abandonment and mistreatment of birds.

RE: lovebirds
Hi Lynda
My cousin decided to buy a pair of lovebirds once. When she got married. Bless. From her experience, all i will say is to make sure you buy some ear plugs too :D[sm=rollaugh.gif]
I would agree with jj - they can be noisey and most birds are messy, but if you have the patience they can be fine pets to have indeed.
I have a parakeet - Chicco i've called him. Cheeky little thing too - it will wait till you have hoovered up the carpet, then dips his head into his food on purpose to make mess - but i love him 🙂
Go for it - if you can take the noise your dogs make [sm=rollaugh.gif] i'm sure you can handle the birds.
luv ya hun

RE: lovebirds
Will I have decided what to do and have done a lot of research 😀 I think even though lovebirds are very cute, they may be a little noisy and messy for me, so i went to a very good friends house who has the most adorable parakeet who said he would like to come home with me, but his mummy wouldn't let him, i have decided to get a parakeet.
I have a lovely cage given to me by my friend and all set to go [sm=jump2.gif][sm=jump2.gif]
RE: lovebirds
Will I did it.
I bought the most gorgeous green ring neck parakeet this morning. He is Green with a pink ring around his neck
We have called him Biggles. If anyone can give me any tips i would be grateful.
RE: lovebirds
lynda, i dont really know anything about birds but i do know they need lots of attention as mentioned. it would be great if u could put a picture of biggles on here!
RE: lovebirds
Biggles is settling in well, and singing and feeding. He does sound like the aliens from Mars Attack (film) I will try and get a pic of him up. looking forward to when i can let him fly around. and hopefully teach him to talk,
