RE: Fleas

Hi lyn

Whoever you reply to, your post automatically goes on the end. In this instance, shinycat's post # 10 follows yours, but I am replying to YOUR question, so I have scrolled back up the thread a little and clicked on Reply inYOUR post.

Above, I clicked on Quote instead of Reply, and automatically got your post already in a quote box. I didn't do that here.

I've also begun with Hi lyn, to make it clear I'm replying to you. In a more formal thread I might beginby typing in 'In reply to .....'

Hope this helps clarify. 🙂

RE: Fleas

I would like to know if there are any natural alternatives that work though. At the time we took what the vet offered us out of necessity, so now that he's flea free I might look into natural treatments.

Hi shinycat

My old dog was most horribly allergic to flea bites, she used tolose her haircompletely over her loin, which went all raw and weepy. Rare occasions fortunately, and only when we'd been visiting people who had cats. Apparently cat fleas are far more common than dog fleas, and dogs do get them. Grrrr [:@]

We do have a member on HP who knows a lot about natural treatments - I'll drop her a PM and ask if she can perhaps post here.

RE: Fleas

Hi Shinycat, I make my own fleas and worms natural remedies for cats and dogs, and all my animals use them. Feel free to pm me if you want further info.

Here is the thread if you would like to take a look.

RE: Fleas

Hi Folks,

I have 3 cats and unfortunately yes you can get the odd outbreak of fleas if they are not treated. I do use Stronghold for them but there has been odd occassions where I had been unable to buy this treatment so resorted to Aromatherapy Essential Oils home remedies that I can share with you.
These remedies are recommended from mycollection ofaroma books, so I have tried & tested them with some very good results.

  • Dilute 6 drops of Geranium, 5 drops of Lavender & 4 drops of Tea Tree in 30 ml (6tsps) of water in a spray bottle. (To rid a pet of fleas, spray into ruffled fur. Avoid the eyes.)

Practical Aromatherapy by Penny Rich (1997:151)

  • An effective anti-flea recipe is a blend of 1 drop of Cedarwood, 1 drop ofLavender and 1 drop of Citronella, applied to the outer side of an absorbent collar.

The Very Essence - A Guide to Aromatherapy by Lisa Burke et al(2005:117)

On the plus side, these recipes will certainly leave your pet smelling lovely and their coats even healthy and glossier.
I also add Apple Cider Vinegar (1 capfull) into their drinking water andCod Liver Oil (5ml/1 tsp)onto their dry or wet cat food once a day. To build up my cats immune system, as an infestation of these blinking fleas can lower an animals immunity.
Hope this infomation helps, good luck.
