:)Can anybody please tell me if a Rottweiler does have lock jaw. I do own one but my partner and i are in disagreement regarding this matter please help to solve our dissagreement.
RE: Does a rottweiler have lock jaw?
Animals as well as humans can get lockjaw (tetanus). If you are concerned about your dog, I would strongly recommend that you contact your vet without delay, who would be the only person who can make a diagnosis and offer treatment.

RE: Does a rottweiler have lock jaw?
Hi
I get the feeling that the original question concerns something other than 'lockjaw aka tetanus'. It sounds as though dog loving lady is asking about a physical thing concerning a rotweiler's biting or gripping facility? Or is the question whether or not rotweilers are prone to tetanus. Sorry, I don't understand - can you clarify please.

RE: Does a rottweiler have lock jaw?
Sunanda, I agree the original question was a little unclear and I almost posted back to ask what was meant. However, the cause of the problem was almost secondary IMO to the need to get the dog treated, as I read the post.
My very brief check online confirmed that it is possible for animals to contract tetanus, and that is all I said above, apart from my recommendation to consult a vet.
I'll happily sharein this forummy experiences on things like feeding and training, but equally post quite often (probably like a stuck record!) that the person should go to - or at least telephone - their vet, and in this case I'll definitely stand by that.
Apart from this being my own view, HP has very clear guidelines in many of the forums about giving advice or diagnoses.

RE: Does a rottweiler have lock jaw?
Sorry i did mean the bite or gripping. When if they bite they do not release the object they are biteing. Sorry new to this i should have made it a little more clearer.
RE: Does a rottweiler have lock jaw?
Ah ha! Now it all becomes clear! (Hol, I hope I don't detect a note of upset in your last post? I do absolutely agree with you about checking things with vets/doctors/qualified people etc, but I intuited that dog loving lady was talking about something else.)
Dog loving lady - (blimey, what a mouthful but I thought you might take offence if I shortened it! LOL) I know that all the bull terriers can lock their jaws so that you literally have to prise them apart if they don't want to let go but I have no idea if rotweilers can do the same. Have you tried googling on rotweiler? It would presumably be one of the characteristics of the breed.

RE: Does a rottweiler have lock jaw?
;);)No i havent tryed googling on the bread. I'm just intrested to find out now . I surpose i also need to know just in case god forbid she did ever get out of our site and bite someone THank you so much for getting back to me iam newto this and i don't seem to get much responce to my questions

Reply to dog loving lady:
Thank you for clarifying, DLL, and I'm glad to know that it's not a veterinary problem after all! I'm now not going to pretend that I know enough about Rottweilers to answer your question about them not letting go, although there have been occasions when my own Border Terriers (a small breed) have done this and it's taken two men to part them from their "booty", with bitten fingers as the result. I did have a quick look on google, which was not much help in this respect. What I would suggest is that you either contact your dog's breeder, or that you look in my reply to you in the Bulldog thread (where I have now edited in line with your amendments), and follow the suggestion there tofind a breed club official in Rottweilers, who should have expert knowledge on the breed, and can advise you on appropriate training.
You said you were not getting much response to your questions. May I respectfully suggest that perhaps you try and give a little more information when you post. There are many helpful and knowledgeable people on HP who would I'm sure be glad to offer suggestions if a bit more fully in the picture.
The other thing is that HP does tend to be a bit quieter on the weekends and pick up speed again with more people posting from Monday onwards - from work, no doubt LOL

No, I wasn't upset, I do assure you, just concerned for the dog, as I always am in these situations. We have a choice as to whether or not we go to the doctor, but animals don't because they're dependent on us.
However, as DLL has now confirmed that's it doesn't seem to be aveterinary problem, I'll go chill
Oh, and I'd never doubt your intuition, not for a moment
