Sorry - I have just seen this thread and would like to add my love, healing and support on too. I hope the assessment went ok for him.
UPDATE:
Hi everyone, well... Jim went to his cancer doc, the radiologist for the next step in his prostate treatment. He has to have radioactive seeds implanted; ( which we knew about, but long and short of it is that this procedure requires outpatient treatment for about a month. This means the inpatient drug/alcohol treatment facility will not take him until he completes the cancer treatment.
He said he still wants to go to treatment, but I could tell he was relieved because now he "can" keep drinking for a longer time, you know? I tried to be positive and supportive and told him "one thing at a time then, that will get it all done"... but I was that disappointed and afraid.
I felt a bit like "oh ye of little faith" so I am pushing away such thoughts and am believing in the certainty of his going into treatment and succeeding.
What say all of you?

Hi Jo, thank you so much! :1kis:
Hi Jen
This is what I think:
Listen to your heart and your intuition, what does it tell you is the right course of action for you as regarding how to deal with your brother?
IMHO if you act out of fear (stay quiet and do not express yourself properly or shout from the roof tops) you may not be fulfilling your role properly. Remember you are important in this situation too, because the consequences will affect you for the rest of your life as well!
I know you understand what I am saying, so I will leave it at that.
Work from your heart Jen!

Hi Jen,
Oh my what an emotional roller coaster you must be on at the moment, my heart goes out to you and your brother's situation.
One of the hardest things for us to do is to see the ones we love on a self-destruct path, it makes us feel so helpless. My parents went through years of agony with one of my aunts who became an alcoholic after her husband died. They did everything they possibly could to help her find her way. This included going to court with her when she had failed to pay her rent/Council Tax which would have seen her sent to prison. They took on the responsibility of making sure she paid the rent, finding out what help was available for her etc etc. As I wasn't close to this situation because of distance I didn't get caught up in all the drama but I could see how it was sapping my parent's energy and health. In the end I had to say to them to take a step back. While they were doing all the running around she continued her life-style . While they did everthing for her she wasn't taking any responsibility for her actions. She wasn't leasrning that her actions had consequences and if she DID end up in prison then maybe she might get the professional help she needed and at least she would have somewhere to live. Looking at it in type I look like I was pretty heartless but that wasn't the case, I was looking out for my parents who had worked hard all their lives, brought up four children and had been enjoying their well-earned retirement when this all happened.
I think what I am trying to say is that everyone has a choice on how they live their lives. It may not be the one we would want for them but it is their choice. Your brother makes a choice every time he takes a drink. He KNOWS it isn't doing him any good for his health but if it is his way of dealing with things then it is going to be nigh on impossible for him to be any different.
You are doing all the right things by being the loving sister that you so obviouosly are. Just keep sending him your love but be honest about how you feel so he knows his actions have consequences on those who love him. Praise his 'good' behaviour so he feels good about himself but also tell him how painful it is when he 'slips'. Oh goodness I sound so judgemental and that is NOT what I'm trying to say, please believe me. Whatever happens next keep your energy high so you can send him all the positive vibes and thoughts you can to help him make those decisions and, remember, (I'm sorry if it sounds like a cliche) everything is as it is meant to be. Who knows what lessons your dear brother agreed to before incarnating in this life?
Understand that all the love and thoughts and healing being sent from all those on this forum will be added to yours for the highest good for your brother Jim. I will continue to add mine to it for as long as he needs it.
Take care of yourself too Jen, BIG Reiki hug coming your way from me.
Love and light
