Hello All
OK - this is a reincarnation question.
I am completely accepting of the concept of reincarnating souls and how we choose our incarnations to work out stuff and learn lessons, keep soul contracts or whatever. But....given that everything in the universe has consciousness, does this mean it also has a soul and does this reincarnate too? For example does a rock or a tree have a soul? Would I ever have chosen to incarnate as a tree? And what about animals - could I have ever been a camel for example?
In all the things I have read/heard about past life regression, I have not come across anyone desribing a past life as a bird or a part of a mountain. But plants and animals die (and I guess rocks crumble too) so what happens to their souls? Or don't they have any? I can't quite believe that they don't.
What does anyone else think?

RE: Was I ever a tree?
Hi Celtia,
Just my small understanding of this is that all things are made of atoms and neutrons, and were around at the beginning of time, at (if there was one) the Big Bang. So everything in the Universe is a part of everything else. When your physical body dies no one really knows what happens - but energy never dies, (Einstein/Dunne etc) and is transformed/mutated etc., into other forms of energy. We (humans) have a limited undertanding of energy - there is much more to learn about it, but we do know that rocks give off vibrational energies, hence the power of crystals, so, who is to say they don't have souls of some kind, just the kind we can't get our heads around at this moment;)
And plants and trees have a sex life and cycles of life, so, why indeed should'nt they have souls, of some kind which again, we cannot comprehend at this time.
I don't know a huge amount about Buddism or reincarnation, but I did study this at spiritual healing classes for three years - it was a subject which was of interest to everyone there - and the conclusion we came to after research and discussion was that if your soul is human, it remains human and returns as human.
Obviously, many other people will have different perspectives and ideas about this, and I shall look forward to reading them.

RE: Was I ever a tree?
Hi Celtia
My understanding is that trees, rocks etc, while an essential part of creation and definitely alive, are on a much lower level consciousness-wise than even the most unaware humans. I believe that we would not and could not choose to come back as something so much further down the awareness ladder, given that what we're here for is to gradually climb that same ladder. Which is not to disrespect any rung of that ladder.....

Yes I am thinking the same as both of you too. That once you are incarnated as a human you would remain so and wouldn't go back to a lower level of evolution.
Although, I am open to the idea that there might be a possibility to reincarnate on different planets, in which case you wouldn't be a human. So you would presumably be going either up or down in level of consciousness. And at what stage in our evolution did humans start to become "hosts" for souls? Are there cases of people being regressed and remembering that they were once a neanderthal man for example?
The more I think about it the more I realise I don't understand yet...

Celtia,
I suggest that you read "Journey of Souls" by Michael Newton. The book contains case histories of past life regressions.
I would also like to recommend "Far Journeys" by Robert Munroe. Here is an extract from his book that answers some your questions re: levels of spiritual development:
....plants exist on levels one through seven. They plants are on a vibrational rate on the levels one thorugh seven. It is the same pattern. Animals exist on the levels eight through fourteen, and when a person attains, when a consciousness attains level fourteen, it can no longer go any higher unless it is willing to change its form of consciousness. Levels fifteen to twenty-one are what you call human life on this earth. When a person progresses to level twenty-one, he then has the choice of going higher or staying within the realm of human form, but he cannot go higher unless he is wiling to give up human form.
Levels twenty-two through twenty eight are your bridge. They are your levels that you enter upon death. You are on level twenty because that is an ascending level, you can enter into the realm beyond physical life, but you cannot stay there unless you are willing to give up the human form.....
...And then once a person or consciousness reaches level twenty-eight, the bridge is crossed, and from that point on for a consciousness to evolve higher, it would not again assume human form of any kind, not even as a learning experience.
These two books will give you an overall picture of how the spirit realm is organised.
