Hi Guys,
I was just wondering if anyone knew what the Spiritual Meaning of Doves is??? I have a friend who is going through a bit of a bad time and he keeps seeing Doves. He was driving around the other day and two came and flew by the side of his car for quite a while...
Could any of you shed some light?
Much Love,
MM

RE: Spiritual Meaning of Doves?
Dear Mystic Moon
Well the dove is the symbol of the Holy Spirit, Mother Mary, Sophia and Peace - A divine messenger.
Doves are Sacred to the Mother Goddess - divine feminine.
In Christianity the dove also represents purity, inspired thought, baptism, the annunciation; the waters of creation.
A white dove is the saved and purified soul, it was also an emblem of the Knights of the Grail.
In Egypt it represents innocence, and sits on the Tree of Life.
Graeco-Roman: Lover: renewal of life.
Hebrew: Purity and were offerings to the Temple for purification, a symbol of Israel. Also represents simplicity, harmlessness, meekness, guilelessness. Embodies the soul of the dead.
Hindu: Doves are messengers
Japan: Longevity
Love beyond measure and may peace be with you.

The Dove
The dove is a member of the pigeon family and both hold the qualities of home, security and maternal instincts. Many with this totem will experience unsettling childhood's and will be challenged continually to acquire a solid secure foundation in all areas of their lives.
The legends and lore surrounding the dove associates it with many goddesses and it is considered the embodiment of the maternal instinct. The brood of dove consists of two eggs. Two represents the creative and feminine energies. Home and family are important to those with this totem and life lessons will be most predominant in these areas.
Since the dove is a ground feeder and eats mostly seeds those with this totem would benefit from a diet rich in wholesome seeds, nuts and grains. They would also do well in any health profession relating to nutrition.
The dove's song is its most distinctive feature. It can be heard throughout the day. The mourning coo of the Dove reflects hidden emotions stored within those who carry this medicine. How you perceive its sound often reflects the energies that are playing out in your life.
When dove appears it is asking us to go within and release our emotional discord, be it of the past or the present. It assists us in releasing trauma stored within our cellular memory. Humming can aid in this release.
Doves hold the energy of promise. When inner turmoil is cleared from our thoughts, words and feelings, the possibility of good fortune awaits us. In order to receive the gifts the doves bestows on us healing on all levels is paramount.

RE: Spiritual Meaning of Doves?
thank you too Rosie.
I have been seeing doves all around me for a long time now, probably 2 years.
In fact inmy last house there was a nest in the guttering where Icould see the nest, eggs, and later chicks hatching, and the pair had about 3 broods.
Doves come to my new house and I always hear their cooing around me , wherever I am , it seems.
On Sunday when I was having a BAD day a pair of Doves were sitting very close to the window I was looking out of, and they sat there calmly looking at me, and didn`t fly away.
I always wondered about their significance, and new something spiritual was going on,
thank you for posting this, I really needed to hear it!

RE: Spiritual Meaning of Doves?
Dear Sarajo
The next time they come watch their movements and you might like to try asking them what message they bring, they work telepathically and when we connect with them it can be wonderful.
I recommend a book by Ted Andrews called 'Animals Speak'

I have never done this before so I hope i'm doing it correctly.
My partner and I had been fighting an awful lot and while it was going on two young doves would come and sleep on our sky dish at night and sit on the back fence for quite a few weeks. They came out of the blue, have gone now sadly and so has he. I always thought they were trying to tell us something.
Can anyone tell me if it meant anything or am I just being silly

If the doves were not there before the fighting but came during that time, then it makes it more significant. Ultimately, only you can decipher its meaning since you are in the supreme position of having the direct experience.
How do you feel about this incident? What do you think they might have been saying and were you aware of it at the time? If so, did you take action on it?

Hi
Thank you for coming back to me, the doves were not there before, we did think it was strange although we wondered if it was because it was winter and they were not sure where to go.
It's only now that my partner has left that I wondered if they were trying to tell us something, they seemed so close huddled up together in a small space. My partners daughter has been suffering a serious illness and they are very close! he felt that he needed to make her better which is why I said he should go as he wasn't considering me at all. It sounds selfish on my part but they were making plans together for when she gets better. I felt that I didn't fir into their plan. Do you think the doves were trying to tell us something?

I don't understand why you say you are selfish. You said he should go to her which is noble; that you told him this was because he wasn't considering you was just putting him in the picture. If you were truly selfish you would try and dissuade him from going!
I think, subconsciously, he may have picked up the feeling of intimacy/union from the doves and that he wasn't being close to who he wanted/needed to be with. Does that make sense/seem accurate to you?
Oh, by the way, I have just seen that you joined this forum today, so welcome!
Thank you Amy.
I think you have it exactly ☺ and maybe that is what the doves were trying to tell us, he needed to go and be where he wanted to be. They stopped sleeping on the sky dish a few weeks before he left, I have seen them sat on the back fence today funnily enough, they just don't sleep right next to the house anymore.
Best Wishes

Why would doves want to communicate with you?
