is anyone familiar with prophetic statements regarding the year twenty twelve. i have recently come across very unclear comments about this year.
being a spiritualist i don't find adverse statements regarding the future
in anyway alarming but believe in finding out as much information as
possible
as spiritualists i believe if we take life responsibly there is nothing to be afraid of does anyone have any comments to make or any knowledge of
the 2012 prophetic statments

First, let me say that I think that it is very important not be afraid of what the future holds. Prophecies can be a bit scary and they can easily consume us. IMHO, it is best just to love now, and let tomorrow look after itself.
That being said, there is no Mayan prophecy that states that the world will come to an end on 21 December 2012. Many texts, movies and TV documentaries are just cashing in on the popularity of the hype surrounding the myth and dis-information concerning this date. Especially, since it is getting closer.
However, 21 December 2012 has been calculated as the date the Long Count calendar, used by the Maya, completes its 13th B'ak'tun cycle since the calendar's starting point. The starting point having been calculated to be equivalent to 11 August 3114 BC in the Gregorian calendar.
To give just a little background to the Mayan Long Count Calendar, consider the following:
1 day = 1 K'in
20 days = 20 K'in, also called 1 Winal
360 days = 18 Winal, also called 1 Tun
7,200 days = 20 Tun, also called 1 K'atun (approximately 20 years)
144,000 days = 20 K'atun, also called 1 B'ak'tun (approximately 400 years)
So every 144,000 days is one B'ak'tun.
According to the Maya there will be a B'ak'tun ending on 21 December 2012.
This is a significant event being that it is the end of the 13th, 400 Tun period. According to the Maya, after 13 B'ak'tuns, or an era of 5,125 years, the cycle repeats itself, going back to counting 13 more B'ak'tuns.
On 22 December 2012 it will be the beginning of the second 13 B'ak'tun era of 5,125 years, with the starting of a new B'ak'tun of a 400 Tun period, but not the end of the world.
The equivalent ending dates of the last 12 B'ak'tun cycles on the Mayan Long Count calendar were:
11 August 3114 BC (beginning of cycle)
13 November 2720 BC
16 February 2325 BC
21 May 1931 BC
23 August 1537 BC
26 November 1143 BC
27 February 748 BC
3 June 354 BC
4 September 41 AD
9 December 435 AD
13 March 830 AD
15 June 1224 AD
18 September 1618 AD
There is an incomplete inscription on a B'aakal Emblem Glyph on a Stela at the Mayan city of El Tortuguero in Chiapas, Mexico that records the equivalent 21 December 2012 B'ak'tun ending date.
The date is also found carved on the walls of the Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, where it functions as a base date from which other dates are calculated.
However, Maya Stela occasionally show dates beyond 2012.
For example, in the Mayan city of Tikal, there is a Stela with the date equivalent to 21 October 4772 AD. The Mayan King called Pacal, of the city of Palenque predicted that on this date, the 80th Calendar Round anniversary of his accession will be celebrated, suggesting he did not believe the world would end in 2012, but continue at least until the year 4772.
What great information about the Mayan calendar.
For me I believe that our planet is going through immense shifts and changes. The planet itself is reacting to the way we have abused it over the years. Using its resources without thought to the future. And now the planet is reacting with earthquakes and hurricanes etc. I believe we are moving into a phase of new awareness where the old world, as we know it will crumble. This is happening just now with the financial uncertainties in the world. What is happening is the old world is falling away. From that a new world will emerge.
I do not believe that 2012 will be the end of the world but a moving into a new phase where people will start to live in cooperation with each other. I have a great vision for a planet where we help each other and live in harmony.
This is my vision.
Blessings

Wow, Jill - hope you are a prophet! 🙂

We are also going to remember how to commune with Mother Earth and how to listen to her, and that also includes all the animals that walk upon her.
Our forgetfulness has allowed us to abuse our Earth Mother for all this time - this I hope will change as we become consciously aware of her and hher needs.
If we are all on the same page, it's spelt prophecy, BTW.

Actually, V, according to my hardback Oxford English Dictionary, it may be spelled [or spelt if you prefer! ;)] either way. This is confirmed online:

Now, isn't there some little saying about people in glass houses? Or am I getting confused with the one about pottles and kets?
While I go off and do a search for those, shall I compile a list of YOUR recent spelling errors while I'm at it, LOL :p 😀

two facinating replies and an interesting spelling lesson thank you.the the
the 2012 as far as i can understand is not about world's end.rather is it
about system change that is a change from abuse of living standards,
to learning a positive approach to the uneversial law and natural law
this involves a change of thinking and to a great extent a change of living.
to me a change of thinking and living involves a change of belief plus
a deep commitment to change of a personal nature and here i forsee difficulty for many of our fellow beings. since human resists change
could give rise to at one end of the spectrum to disagreement and animosity;
;and ,chaos onthe other

Dr Richard Tarnas
Has anyone read Richard Tarnas' books?
This is a section from the wikipedia link:
His second book, Cosmos and Psyche, challenges basic assumptions of the modern world view, postulating the existence of a consistent correspondence between planetary movements (specifically the astrological aspects) and .
This volume examines such famous epochs of cultural rebellion as the 1960s and the French Revolution (both characterized by axial alignments of Uranus and Pluto), as well as periods of historical crisis such as the world wars, the Great Awakening, American Revolution, the Romantic Era, the Age of Enlightenment, and September 11th. Cosmos and Psyche also explores comparable patterns and planetary correlations in the lives of many individuals, . The book suggests a new possibility for reuniting religion and science, soul and intellect, ancient wisdom, and modern reason in the quest to understand the past and create the future.
Are there any astrologers out there who can explain more about the alignments of Uranus and Pluto coming up to 2012? Tarnas goes into some detail in his recent book.
Norbu
Hi Norbu,
I must read this book, sounds very interesting. I am not a political astrologer, but there will be plenty around looking at these major aspects.
Well for anyone interested in astrology the line up during 2012 is Uranus is in the sign of Aries first decanate (ruled by Mars) in a 90 degree aspect (a square) with Pluto also in the first decanate (ruled by Saturn). There is also a aspect pattern called a Yod, another name for it is the Finger of God. around about December 2012, which I'll give a bit of thought to when I have a moment.
Uranus was last in Aries during the 1930's and was also squaring Pluto (then in Cancer) from 1931 on and off until 1935. This was a time of the Great Depression, the Wall Street Crash had happened in 1929 I believe and the USA were calling in all their loans from foreign governments. The financial instability had a knock on effect leading to WW2. We need our Historian to fill in the details of this.
I should imagine the present governments especially the US government will have tried to do everythng it can to prevent a recurrence, does history repeat itself?
On a much deeper level how can you resist change, with these powerful dynamics at work affecting the very structure of our Establishments. There are going to be huge changes - life evolves. The more it is resisted the greater the struggle.
Life will go on and it has to evolve. I'll go and book my space in the mountains in Scotland (half-joking).

Without going into detail right now, I really start to wonder whether 2012 has any particular significance at all. The world and its 'vibe' is really changing, I agree - not all for the better right now - but IMHO it changes not according so much to fixed dates (which makes us into slavish followers of outside influence) but according to the speed with which we alter by free will. A New Age may really be visible in 50 years ... or in 500 years if we are laggards about it. Sooner I hope.
A petty point by me about spelling, Holistic. I do typos all the time. 🙂 All the same, to nit-pick from my 'incarnation' proof-reading (proofreading?), propheCy is the deed that is done, and propheSy is the act of doing it. 🙂

Fixed dates and astrological influences
Hi Venetian,
I've always been very suspicious astrology but read Richard Tarnas book "The Passion of the Western Mind," which was an excellent and readable romp through the history of western philsophy. It was in the last chapter and epilogue, I think, this book that I came across more ideas from Stanlislaf Groff who I hadn't really looked at before but was vaguely aware of. I then read half way through a recent Groff autobiography and with begun to ask questions of my rejection of astrology as a result. I suppose these suspicions have come an gone over many years and stimulated by a number of authors and sources.
Anyway, as I had felt that Tarnas book on western philosophy was so good I read, well skimmed through much of it as it is a rather monotonous catalogue of evidence for the most part, "Cosmos and Psyche." I must admit the argument that there is some kind of archetypal correlation between historical trends and the alignment of the outer planets was very convincing. Tarnas' case isn't so much about particular dates but about the correlation of phases of social phenomena in history and the way these correlate with the alignment of these outer planets.
This isn't so much a determinsistic astrology as a relfection of archetypal patterns expressed in human society. And as such, it is up to us how we, as human beings, negotiate the archetypal patterns that express themselves in our lives, individually and collectively that counts. And having some kind of insight into these archetypal patterns can be helpful even if one is blissfully ignorant of the way these things may or may not correlate to the movement of the planets.
Norbu
Hi norbu,
Yes, I agree, especially with:
"This isn't so much a determinsistic astrology as a relfection of archetypal patterns expressed in human society."
I've simply thought for a very long time that astrology isn't as specific or anywhere near as accurate to individual lives as many believe. But I've posted more on that in the past.
Feng Shui is a somewhat different subject, but to give an example of how irrational beliefs can get, a much-published author on Feng Shui told me, and must have written, that only certain days were 'safe' to travel in certain directions. In other words, today I'm safe to travel East maybe, but it's dangerous to travel West. --- :p it got me to wondering how you travel to and from work in the space of the same day. Some astrology is as specific as that, and just doesn't work out in my experience.
But yes, there are global trends of a sort, influenced by something we might call 'Cosmic'. Actual statistical research into astrological outcomes have only illustrated tiny effects concerning a few planets, birth dates, and ensuing professions so far as I know.
