There might already be a threat under this subject somewhere, if it has already been discussed and someone finds it, please let me know.

In recent weeks I've been 'researching' this subject quite extensively on the web, however, I feel like my hunger for knowledge of this subject has not been really satisfied yet. Hence, I thought to ask the HP community if anyone knows a good web site or book you would like to point me to. Really looking for some guidance

Any other comments, thoughts on this subject are greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Although I've contributed to threads on certain of these topics none of them are my specialty. Check under the various other forum titles here, and on other websites, for relevant material.

This is the forum for discussion of the religion and philosophy of Spiritualism - definitely not the right place for your interests.....

Mac,

Okay, I will. Wasn't sure where to open this thread, really...

MOD if thread can be moved under a different, more suitable topic that would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello Zimba,

Yes, the Spiritualism and Spirituality forums do sometimes get confused one with the other, but no worries ... I've moved this over to Spirituality for you 🙂

Now, if you put the individual 'categories' [is that the right word?] of your thread title into HP's own Search, one at a time, you will indeed find former threads on these topics.

Some are here in Spirituality, and some you will find in the Children's Health forum - these will come up in your search results list if you search on 'All forums - and possibly other areas as well.

HTH, but please do ask if any further clarification is needed.

Kind regards,

Holistic

Just type any of those subjects in Google and add the word Forum and you'll come up with all kinds of sites... might have to sort the wheat from the chaff mind...

Yes, and the problem is, IMHO there's a lot of the latter out there.

I certainly do believe, personally, that some individuals have in particular chosen to work altruistically and on as large a scale as they can for the betterment of humanity. I also believe, personally, that this is presently a time when an extraordinary number of particularly enlightened children, who will often think and work 'outside the box', are waiting to be born, and a few are already born and even into their teens and twenties.

I have no problem with the concepts. It's just that the terms in the thread topic - "light workers", "starseeds", "Indigo children" are overwhelmingly used most often by low-calibre and rather wacky people and sources. So very often in reading up under those terms, one is going to get muddled up with a fair bit of nonesense or "chaff", though the core principles are sound.

Apollo and venetian,

In the OP, Zimba asked:

To help sort the wheat from the chaff therefore, perhaps you'd both be kind enough to suggest some websites that ARE worth visiting, and similarly perhaps some authors whose books you might consider reliable reading matter.

And anyone else reading this thread, of course 😉

Many thanks 🙂

Holistic - Thanks again for your support.

Venetian - That is exactly why I've posted on this forum, hoping to get some guidance on literature where I can get 'serious' information about this topic.

You're absolutely right, I've come across a website on this topic during my research that I thought to be very strange and could have negative consequences on people looking for info, in my opinion.
Unfortunately, some weird people are exploiting and taking advantage of people looking for this type of knowledge, as it happens in other areas as well. Interestingly enough, the once that are the 'wacky sources' (as you call them) come across most professional of all! Wonder where they get the funding from? Needless to say, this situation saddens me greatly!

In general I believe that Light Workers, Indigo Children etc. are growing in numbers and are here to increase the positive vibration of the earth. I feel though that it would be only beneficial if we are able to recognise and support the Light Workers as much as we can as well, and this would only be possible if we have a certain level of awareness.

Rebecca - Thank you for the link, much appreciated.

FYI I have browsed through Doreen Virtue and Diana Coopers' web sites and have read a few books on this topic. Both Ladies have put a great deal and good information out but I would like to deepen my knowledge on this topic as it is of great interest to me at this point in time.

Hello again Zimba

Your further paragraph here about Light Workers prompted me to remember that I have a book on my own bookshelf on this subject:

A Handbook For Light Workers by David Cousins, and here it is on Amazon:

where there are a couple of positive reviews. Now, whether others taking part in this thread will take a similarly favourable view of the book remains to be seen 😉

I've had my copy for years, and I confess never read it right through 😮 The price of a new copy suggests to me that it's now out of print though, but second hand copies are available.

Did you manage to find old HP threads? If not, I'll have a rummage for you and post a few links. Search result links only work for the person doing the search, unfortunately.

Hi Laura (Holistic) and Zimba,

I was commenting above (or below, the way some people arrange their pages) simply on one direction the thread had taken.

I wouldn't be able to pick any website/page really regarding these subjects, and recommend it. As said, the general concepts - that some people work for Good or Light in a more than ordinary way, and that there is a wave of spiritually pure children (largely as yet unborn IMHO, but there are always some, right?) - resonate with me, for sure. But not when these terms are applied: the terms are used by the smorgasbord of the New Age movement and I can't say I resonate with much of any of that.

Rather, I'd ditch the terms and start to look for the phenomena in other ways. After all, if someone is an exceptional shining light in the world (but egoless in being so), it's possible we'll recognise them when we see or read of them. Etc., etc.

Here's an example: the wonderful character, James Lovelock, who developed the theory or concept of Gaia - yet who reckons the New Age take-up of his theory is mumbo-jumbo and not what he meant, or data shows, at all. A temporary (catch it quick!) link to a docu on him is: Now, that's a real "light worker" 🙂 - but not of the kind a New Age tome is likely to cover.

Me, I was interested in how the New Age terms and concepts originated. I always like to trace things back to their origins. It's most instructive. So I just looked up "Indigo children". Now, Wikipedia isn't perfect, but one assumes this is a fairly accurate summation of the term, its origins, and controversy around it:

It's wonderful to know that Indigo children have the cosmic goal of [COLOR="Navy"]"remaking of the world into one lacking war, trash and processed food." Gosh, they certainly are going to deal with all three of humanity's major ills at once, aren't they! 😀 🙂

Seriously, a reading of the Wiki page will give some idea of why IMHO it's best to keep clear of these terms and look for the real 'light workers' in a non-New Age way.

Briefly ... thanks V for:

A temporary (catch it quick!) link to a docu on him is: <a class="go2wpf-bbcode" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href=" http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...ames_Lovelock/ "> http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...ames_Lovelock/ Now, that's a real "light worker" 🙂 - but not of the kind a New Age tome is likely to cover.

I had a quick glance to see how quick 'quick' must be, and:

Available until: 9:59pm Wednesday 28th April 2010

The Wikipedia page isn't headed with 'Citations needed' as sometimes occurs, though heavily peppered with 'it is believed that' and similar, as they tend to also do on any pages on alternative or complementary therapies. 😉

Thanks the elucidation, Laura.

Off-topic, I recommend the Lovelock documentary highly. He's a wonderful man. 🙂 Considered by many to be one of the most important scientists of the 20th century - but many decades ago he moved out of the entire scientific community (of business, financing, and universities) to be a free mind outside of the box.

The Wiki page looks accurate on 'Indigo Children'. It has been quickly peer reviewed by a Wiki editor and got a good review. It also has an 'assessment / summary page' which says:

* Article is relatively well referenced.

* POV is not a large issue here - the article is well balanced. Articles on pseudoscientific phenomena are usually not this well balanced, which is nice.

* Lead section is relatively well done and presents the article's subject well for a general audience

* External links section is free of spam and balanced

We read in the page: "The term "indigo children" originates with parapsychologist and self-described synesthete and psychic, Nancy Ann Tappe who developed the concept in the 1970's..."

Hmm. Anyone who describes themselves as a psychic and a 'parapsychologist' would normally lose my support pretty quickly. New Age types of the sub-type who are not scientific at all sometimes call themselves 'parapsychologists', misusing the word which really refers to dedicated reearchers who use hard science and statistical facts. My whole point in the thread is really that just because someone (in the case of 'Indigo children', Nancy Ann Tappe) comes up with a concept and invents a term, it doesn't mean that the concept has any validity at all, necessarily. Yet some people just take it as a given that the phenomenon described exists. Just to stick with 'Indigo children' as an example, the Wiki page says:

The list of traits used to describe the children has also been criticized for being vague enough to be applied to almost anyone, a form of the Forer effect.

And:

The phenomenon has been criticized as a means of making money from credulous parents through the sales of related products and services.

So again, my comment would be: a starting point for researching these alleged phenomena is surely to realise that they are only alleged, and perhaps tenuously so. 'Indigo children' only existed originally because Nancy Tappe said that they did. That wouldn't, frankly, be enough to convince me - so far as the exact and New Age concept goes. (The fact that gifted children are born and exist is something else. 🙂 )

And so on - the other terms could probably be similarly looked at, going back to their origins.

V, I'll come back to this when I have a bit more time.

Zimba, I've just noticed ... if you scroll down to the bottom of this page, there's a short list of similar threads. I keep forgetting about this facility ... doh! ... but there are several on Indigo Children.

In haste,

Coming clean... I originally saw this thread from Zimba and saw mac's reply immediately above it - but I saw the words ' This is the forum for discussion of the religion and philosophy of Spiritualism - definitely not the right place for your interests..... ' - and figured that didn't look right - so thought I'd post that the forum was for spirituality not spiritualism... wrote a quick reply and posted it... Only then I read the reply from yourself indicating that you'd moved the post to this spirituality directory... So - trying to remedy my admitted mistake 😮 - went back to attempt to delete my post... Yet finding that this cannot be done I then changed its content to suggest a quick look on google for Zimba... Not a lot of help I admit - but I'm pretty sure I can find - through Google alone - some sites worth / not worth visiting in search of more information on the topic of this thread... I'll do so and report back later with the findings... Hey; I might even add a two penneth of my own thoughts on the matter while I'm there...

Thank you all for your replies and contributions. Very, very much appreciated

Holistic - Many thanks for your support and advise. I had checked the threads stated at the bottom of the page and have read about 3 or so conversations on this subject.

Apollo - no need to apologies at all. I know that your post was written in a positive spirit.

Venetian - your advise is very useful indeed in saying that i first and foremost should start in researching where the different terms are coming from and take it from there. I had indeed read the Wiki site with reference to the definition of 'Indigo Children' and browsed 'superficially' through Nancy Ann Tappes' web site but will get through it in more detail, hopefully at the weekend when I have a little bit more time on my hands.

You're right that there are, have been and always will be 'Light Workers' amongst us. I watched the documentary you suggested about 'Lovelocke'. Certainly an admirable man and someone I would call a 'Light Worker'.
Most great scientists have been 'out of the box' thinkers, otherwise they probably would not have invented what they have i.e. Gallileo, Da Vinci, Newton, Einstein... and often they have been branded as 'crazy' by the surrounding society and only the confident ones with the right support have succeeded...

Science is just one part where we will find 'Light Workers' and not all 'Light Workers' (I keep using this term for the sake of simplicity) will achieve, create, invent things of such magnitude or world changing as the above mentioned scientists have.

If our earth will be populated with more 'Light Workers' as we go along I am of the opinion that it is important not to make their skills and talents suppressed by society but instead encourage to express these special peoples' talents.

Off to more reading....

P.S: I forgot to mention in my earlier post that indeed there are 'wacky sources' - as you call them Venetian - around. Sadly, these sources look most professional and could potentially take people who are looking for this type of information astray.
Hence, I felt safer to ask you more experienced HP folk for a direction.

Hi Zimba,

Personaly, I don't think there is anything in a name it's just a way of making identification simple, Nancy Anne Tappe gave these children the name Indigo because she found after ten years of intensive research that the children who displayed the traits had a very vivid Indigo aura, it is my understanding that Tappe began her research due to an almost overnight huge increase in the amount of children being diagnosed ADD or ADHD. I've been fortunate enough to personally meet a few of these children over the years and feel blessed to have done so they have chosen a hard path this time round most end up being medicated in order to surpress their physic abilities.
I don't feel the fact that the New Age brigade have jumped on the band wagon makes this issue any less valid, at the end of the day they do mean well and it's better having someone doing something to raise awarness of this issue, the more awareness that is raised maybe there is a chance of less medication.

Love

Rebecca
