I’ve been meaning to share this wonderful talk on HP for a while now, but have been spurred on by the fact that the speaker is in the UK a the moment and in fact I’m going to hear him tomorrow in Woking.

I know how much interest HP members have in healing and Tom McElroy in this talk at a Burning Man event explains so clearly that it is belief (not necessarily our own) that becomes objectified on our bodies. He quotes from this N Y Times article (that I’ve shared before on HP).
Probing the Enigma of Multiple Personality - NYTimes.com

To me it’s interesting that the medical community is aware of how the identities of the different personalities take on different diseases and conditions, but so far, they doesn’t know what to do with this information. It has to be said that this phenomena only touches our human thinking (what we call mortal mind in Christian Science), and as such, cannot really heal, but just exchanges one set of beliefs for another.

Our mortal thinking with all its sometimes destructive emotions and beliefs is actually the counterfeit of our real Mind with which we are inseparably and eternally connected. The one universal Mind holds (let’s call it) a divine blueprint, which is the real identity of each of us, right here and right now, perfect whole and complete. As you listen to Tom’s talk (it’s 35 mins) you’ll see how connecting to our divine consciousness brings harmony, healing and redemption into every aspect of our being. He includes healings of behavioral difficulties (with a young prisoner), of sight problems and a broken limb.

Enough chatter – here below is the link to the talk. As it was for the Burning Man audience, it’s not “religious” at all, so don’t worry! 😉 I hope you enjoy it and look forward to any discussions it will bring up!

Having been accused of "mind control" earlier in this thread , when I came across this clear explanation of how correcting our own thinking and perception can bring harmony to the whole situation, I thought I'd share it here.

I shared it a while ago with a friend who's going through a nasty break up, with a lot of alcoholic explosions and volatile behaviour from her partner. I sent her this article, which she loved and the next day, for the first time, when they met, all was calm and civilised and she was so grateful/

Here is an excerpt. To give you some background, this was a trainee who found a horrible situation at the office - a boss (Murray) who would go out drinking in his lunch hour and come back and start screaming at everyone. One day, he felt he couldn't cope any longer with the situation so phoned a Christian Science practitioner (or healer):

A shift at the office*/

As I launched into my story about Murray and his behavior, the practitioner calmly requested that I repeat Jesus’ words—the words he spoke when facing a storm and winds at sea—“Peace, be still” ( Mark 4:39). She added, “I want you to say those words over and over again, until you can feel them and mean them.”

As I put down the phone, I began repeating “Peace, be still” over and over in my thoughts. For about the first 20 times the words were just that—words. But the more I began to consciously feel God’s ever-present stillness and peace, the more at one with God’s peace I became. Soon I stopped repeating the words—they weren’t needed—as an almost indescribable sense of peace settled over me. As I bathed in this God-provided mental state, I began to feel transformed by it. At first, there was a certain mental shift. I no longer felt any connection to my previous judgment, anxiety, and fear, since they simply didn’t fit this new mental state. Next, I was no longer aware of my surroundings, including the yelling and the drama next door, as I felt the certainty of God’s immediate presence. Finally, I felt I was in perfect consonance with the peace of God I was asking for.....

...In all, I must have been in this wonderful spiritual state of mind for about ten minutes. It was a soft knock at my door that brought me back to the awareness that I was sitting at my desk at the agency.

Standing in the doorway was Murray. He stood there silently, looking at me and scratching his head. He had a curious look on his face that seemed to say, “What just happened?” Well, for one thing, he was calm, clear-eyed, peaceful—and no longer drunk. And he also seemed humbled. Actually, we both were.

The rest of the day was perfectly peaceful. But even more wonderful, that was the end of Murray’s drunken outbursts. God’s reflected peace had cleansed our office environment.

This precious experience showed me that just as the rising tide lifts all boats, so does our spiritually uplifted consciousness lift those around us. I didn’t pray specifically for Murray—in fact, that afternoon I didn’t even focus on him or the drama that was occurring.

Love and peace,

Judy
