RE: Foregiveness, enough in itself?
Judy,
Refusing to forgive someone doesn't mean hanging on to anger and resentment.
Rosi - I also feel as if I am repeating myself too, but I still cannot agree with you.
Gilly - you express what I am trying to say so much better than I can.
Leo - where are you? You started off the discussion....
Love,
Patsy.

Leo's at the Brecon Jazz Festival:D:D:D:D
Totally agree Patsy, and thanks for your kind words, [sm=1kis.gif] it does not mean as the victim that you have to hold onto resentment and anger, indeed, you can easily forgive the perpetrator - the point was and is that the perp is not going to change until they acknowledge their own wrongdoings.

RE: Foregiveness, enough in itself?
Exactly, Gilly. Anyone can say 'I forgive you' but unless the perpetrator learns from his actions and knows why he's being forgiven, they just remain words. I have lost count of peeps who say that they have forgiven someone for something, but bring up the misdemeanour at every opportunity.
Lucky Leo - I love jazz!
Love,
Patsy.

Yes isn't he the lucky one! Arthur would give anything to be there!!!:D
If I can add here, from the Christian perspective, Christ did say 'repent and believe' which signals to Christians that one has to understand their own wrongdoing and accept it then repent of it. The saving grace here is that this person then has a true sense of his 'sin' (for want of a better word as this always causes controversy here);) and can then turn to God for deliverance.
In fact I believe most faiths have some similar edict to follow, but all without question do say you have to recognise what you have done wrong BEFORE you get to deal with it - via God if you believe in God, or via your own conscience.

RE: Foregiveness, enough in itself?
I'm sorry but I find myself unable to participate any further in this thread: opinions are so entrenched and there are so many 'obviouslys' being used. Also Gillyann said:
the point was and is that the perp is not going to change until they acknowledge their own wrongdoings.
and I'm afraid that I don't think this is the point at all. We seem to be talking at cross purposes and I don't think I want to go on repeating myself. Patsy, Gillyann - you have your opinions. You are absolutely entitled to them but I will continue to disagree with you on this point.
Judy - how very nice to 'see' you again. Thanks for your post.
Much love
