Can some pelase explain the difference between Fate and Destiny are they not the same thing?

Destiny - the predetermined course of events; fate; what is destined to happen to a particular person.
Fate - the power regarded as perdetermining events unalterably; an individual's appointed lot
So it would seem to be the same flower - not something you can get out of

I was looking at something yesterday to do with Astrology (not something I know much about) and they had different links one for Fate and one for Destiny which threw me.

just elaborating on what Freda has already said.
Yes fate is something that somehow is there set in time but that you can still affect somehow.
Destiny is your purpose in life, the reason and nature of your existence and what determines your life goals.
