Just spotted on Yahoo! Recipes for a variety of warming winter drinks, including mulled wine with the interesting addition of strong Earl Grey tea as one of the ingredients:

Wittily written too, as are some of the comments below the blog. A few suggestions along the lines of non alcoholic drinks being actually more warming. Better for drivers too 😉

Morocco Ale is apparently available in supermarkets.

Thanks for posting that link Holistic! Nice to have a few other winter warmers up one's sleeve.

I have an old recipe for mulled wine which goes down very well with everyone. It's a wonderful mixture for a party as it has the taste of being more alcoholic than it actually is, making it a very reasonable cost.

Mistletoe Mull

3 cups of water (half pint cup)
1+ cups sugar
1 small stick cinnamon
5 cloves
grating of nutmeg
4 green cardamom pods
1 lemon, thinly sliced (orange will substitute if preferred)
2 bottles red wine

Bring water to the boil water with most of the sugar and spices and boil for 5 minutes. Add lemon slices, leave to stand for 10 minutes.
Pour in the wine, heat slowly - do not boil.
Check for sugar content and add more to taste as necessary. Serve hot.
This should supply about 20 x 125ml (5 fl oz) measures or 25 x 100ml (4fl oz)measures approx.

If you want to add to it, another mixture can easily be made up reusing the spices but maybe adding one or two extra spices and a new lemon (remove the old slices).
If there is any left over, remove the lemon and spices or it will become bitter.

A good, warming and non-alcoholic drink that helps keep colds in check:-

Finely grate some (about 1 or 2 tsp) fresh ginger into a mug. Top up with some boiling water. Leave for a few mins. Stir in some honey and the freshly squeezed juice of half a lemon. FRESH ginger and lemon "tea"! Wonderful.
