I've just tried spinning for the first time, and I think I'm hooked!
Was a bit nervous, thought there was no way I'd be able to keep up with the others, but surprisingly I could. I even managed to do some of the bits where you stand up to cycle.
Anyone else here do spinning?
Hi,
I have a spinning wheel and all the equipment up in the attic. I used to spin a lot years ago but then babies arrived and I didn't have the time. I would love to take it up again. I have access to lovely fleeces as my husband is a farmer. I also had to shelve my Honiton Lace making.
I went to evening classes for spinning when I was doing it before but I ended up teaching the tutor!!! It is a very relaxing hobby and, yes, you do get hooked. Dying wools is very interesting as well. Its wonderful how you can use your vegetable peelings to colour the wool naturally and then still be able to compost them. Recycling at its best!
My very first knitting project with my home spun wool was a babies jacket. It was lovely but my sister was helping me and put it in the washing machine! She didn't realise how precious it was to me, bless her. Now it is a dolls jacket.
You have now aroused my desire to take spinning and lace making up again! Off to Honiton tomorrow!! I will get my husband to root around in the loft for my spinning wheel!! He will be pleased! Lol!
Happy spinning!:)

Ahem . . . Mog, I think you have mis-read or misunderstood ali_janes's post.
Yes, I have managed a few spinning sessions ali_jane1123, and they certainly blow away any cobwebs you may have in the corners of the body!
I can hardly stand up and the end of each session.
Happy spinning.
Cheers
I must admit I had never heard of spinning as an exercise either.:(
Otherwise known as indoor cycling, the spinning bike has become one of the most popular means of getting a workout. Part of this popularity comes from the fact you can burn an estimated five hundred calories per forty-minute ride. This makes spinning a remarkably efficient way of losing weight. Of course this depends how fast you go.But one of the advantages of indoor cycling is that you can work at your own pace and gradually pick up speed as you get stronger.
Apparently good for slimming.:D
I started spinning classes a few weeks ago and really enjoy them! It's one of the few exercises that I feel I will definately stick to.
I've had noticeable improvements on the old waist line with it too!!!;)
Sorry, I didn't explain myself properly, Mog. But you talking about spinning and lace-making makes me feel like getting my lace pillow out again. Haven't done it for years, but used to love it.
As for the exercise form of spinning: am thinking of doing two classes a week to really up the benefits. Plus the gym is only about a mile from my house, so may walk to the gym, do the spinning class, and walk home again for added benefit!
Oh!! Silly me!!:o
I have never heard of spinning as an exercise form so that is why I misunderstood! Anyway, it has done me good in an exercise way as I could not find some of my (wool) spinning stuff and have turned the house out having lots of exercise at the same time!!
Anyway, couldn't find the things and have decided to concentrate on lace making. Doesn't use a lot of calories though!! Do need to lose some more weight. I have lost five stones already so far.
Good luck with the (exercise) spinning. Sounds interesting but I don't think I could do that because of my knees.

Hi Maggie. Lost 5 stone?!!! You spin and make lace?!
WOW!!!!!
You are a goddess and an inspiration!
Heartiest congrats - I feel re-energised now. Well done! xxx
Well done on the 5 stone loss, Mog. I'm a little behind you as have lost just over 3 stone so far.
Maybe you could add weights to your spangles so you can get some weight training in while lace-making But I guess if you do Honiton lace then you don't have spangles??
Am off to (exercise) spinning again tonight. Have had an irritating day at work so hoping to take out some of my irritations on the bike.
