Like any new piece of "revolutionary" equipment, it is supposed to be the best thing ever used/ designed,

there are drawbacks when gripping the machine some people can become sufferers of "white finger" previuosly linked to using hydraulic equipmnet designed to break concrete or similar. I trialed a machine approx 6 months ago and have to say I didnt personally like it, there is no substitute for good old functional exercise like squats, lunges press ups etc which mimic everyday activities like sitting, standing, walking running, lifting etc

I remember a few years ogo "motorfitness" which were electric couches used by those too lazy to exercise, basically you laid down and the bed moved your limbs...........
I suspect they will be at the back of the gym by this time next year and we will be talking about shooting streams of compressed air at ourselves to achieve the beach body we need by this time next week in time for our holiday........
or am I being too cynical (?SP)
regards
Gaz

My friend has one in her living room. I had a go on it the other day and it was VERY weird! She swears by it. Says it got rid of the excess fat she had round her knees that she hated and she's starting to tone up too.

To be honest, I'm not convinced, but it did sort of feel like it could literally shake the fat off you!

The Gadget Show on Channel 5 covered these recently and it did provide a significant improvment in fitness over a number of weeks. The basic idea is that the movement of the plate forces your muscles to adjust lots of imes a second and makes them work harder.

Does anyone have any expereince of owning one for commercial purposes. Are they really a one hit wonder? I own a fitness studio and so many clients are asking about them to the point that they would pay extra on their membership fees to be able to use one. I have asked a couple of companies to come in to demo.
You don't see many commercial quality ones on auction sites so they seem to be proving their worth.

Hello,
I think they are quite popular or certainly IN at the moment. Places like Ocean and David lloyd do have them. Whilst looking into them myself i found quite a few places had set up studios with only powerplates in them....!
I cant tell you if they are worth the money or if you will get the return. I guess its a case of weighing up if you want to keep your customers happy and give them what they want, or let them go else where? Many beauty salons have sun beds in them and one of the first things i was taught as a beauty therapist was how bad they were for us!???

From experience they fall into the same category as most trensds within this industry, I have witnessed in a major gym chain an initial purge of use by allcomers to the gym then as I predicted the useage has fallen to a steady trickle of diehard gym bunnies who remain motivated to use them as part of a regime but certainly not as a be all and end all. I will be speaking to some gym based trainers in the next couple of weeks and will report back on their perspective.
We were recently offered 2 for the original price of one with a free 2 year maintenance contract included in the price so I think there are stockists sitting on surplus stock.

i bought one after xmas, and after the first use realised i had probably wasted my money, however, i saw it on a shopping channel (as I was flicking through!!), and they had quite a few exercises on there.....so I have decided to keep it, and see if I get anything from it. Apparently they are good post exercise?

Hi,

Don't know if this helps anyone but I came across this website, Power Plates which helps explain how they benefit and enables you to compare the machines on the market. I beleive these machines are good at complimenting cardio exercise and a balanced diet rather than be used on their own to get fit. There are plenty of big names that use them including big sports teams.

Hope this helps

Paul
