Hi a new user here.
I had the Mirena fit yesterday and have felt awful ever since with bad cramps and backache.
I know these will subside but my biggest fear is weight gain, I have lost 5 stone in the past 16 months and have another half stone to lose, I have been reading that this coil can cause weight gain and now I am paranoid as no way do I want to gain any weight.
Anyone got anything positive to say about the Mirena as I am seriously thinking of going and having it taken out because I am so scared of gaining weight
Thanks
Interesting to read these posts. I am on my 2nd Merena coil and am very pleased on the whole with it. So much better than the copper coil that caused heavy bleeds every week. I did find that towards the end of the 5 years of the merena the bleeds after having none at all or very light spotting over the 5 years that was really painful and also the removal had to 2 attempts on different dates and the new fitted was just as bad which surprised me as my first merna was fine. Is this down to age or the neck of the womb dropping? But a year on everything is ok again. But the doctor did say if I did want to have children as I have none and approching 40 he would want know before I contimplated it and seemed to think I would fertility problems which was hard to hear.
I am sorry for those of you that have problems and have found all the comments here really helpful.
Kind Regards to all.

Hi
I came across this site by accident as I was looking for a little bit of info regarding the mirena coil. I have had mine for 2years and its fine however after a year of pretty much no bleeding, I now have a regular period again. Its exactly every 28days and is quite light but I was wondering why it had appeared again. I also have to say that my sex drive is definately reduced but I think its something you have to work on anyway when you've been married for a while and have 4kids. I'm sure many people have symptoms caused by the coil but I would also like to say that I'm sure many of the symptoms are not and it might be wrong to get your coil removed, hoping for a miracle cure. I think most women experience bloating, irritability, lack of sex drive and a whole host of various aches and pains but I believe our diet, environment and perhaps our own state of mind cause much of it. Think long and hard before you get your coil removed. You might be worse off than before and be bitterly dissapointed when you don't wake up the next morning looking like claudia Schiffer and smiling like Doris Day!
Mirena Coil - horror
I had a Mirena Coil fitted on the 14th January 2009 for heavy, irregular and prolonged periods. I am 51. Multiple polyps were removed under GA and this fitted at the same time. I was warned that it may come out due to the size of my womb. I was quite hopeful that this would give me my life back .......
What a disappontment I have just had the worst two months I have ever had. I have suffered low back pain, low abdominal pain that goes down one leg, headaches, continual loss/period - no let up at all, spotty face, tiredness, sore boobs the list is endless and not forgetting depression. A friend asked me how I was yesterday and I just cried! I prayed each day that it would come out but thought I had to give it time to settle down.
I had decided that I would ask my doctor to take it out at my check- up which was yesterday, eight weeks after having it fitted.
My wish came true and it came out with a little DIY no pain just straight out last Sunday five days before my doctors appointment. I was so pleased.....at first. I now have an even heavier period and a very black mood.
I saw my Doctor yesterday who was fantastic, he has given me progesterone tablets to stop the bleeding until I see the specialist again. The next stage is endometrial ablation and I just hope that this works. I just want to feel normal again!
This forum has helped me so much with my symptoms as I thought I was going mad. Not sure I would have readily had it fitted had I discovered this forum beforehand and known the side efffects.
Good Luck to anyone that is thinking about having it fitted - for me it has been horrendous.
Thanks for all the posts that have helped me.
Hi,
I have been having constant problems with bleeding for the last couple of years and discovered I had fybroids earlier this year.
My doctor suggested this coil but I have decided against it.I feel at my age I cant have much more of this to go - hopefully!!!
I have had the acne, the constant tiredness, the lack of energy, the lack of appetite, the mood swings[meditation helps this]the lower back pain, the lower womb pains and bleeding so bad sometimes I have been scared to move! I have had some uncomfortable moments when I have been out!:o
It seems to be having a slight break at the moment but the tiredness drives me mad as I am usually so active. I also have some real bad sugar cravings and my diet, which has been good in the past, is away to pot- hence the acne no doubt!
I will be attending the clinic later this month for another check as both my sister and mother had to have hysterectomy's and I have had a smear scare so want to be sure I am ok but I know I will not be taking this coil as I feel my body has been through enough with synthetic hormones over the years and I will think of an alternative route after I have had check up. Accupunture seems to be good according to some!?
Anyway's, I just wanted to say a big thank you for all your help on this forum, both for and against this coil as it helped me reach my decision that bit easier.
Love and light.:)
Mirena coil
Please, please think very carefully about a mirena coil fitting. I speak from 5 years of experience !
Its not for everyone, and if anyone has this coil fitted and is experiencing any health problems afterwards, please have it removed.
I know a lot of women applaud the coil, they are the lucky ones, and if it's right for them, great, but there are a lot of women who are suffering with health issues, that are not seemingly connected to the coil.
When I first had the coil fitted, I was over the moon. Absolutely no problems for the first year. After that I had pain, backache and cramps, but still didn't connect it with the coil. It was around this time I suffered with my first bout of Vertigo, which had me laid flat in bed for 5 days. This went on for the next 4 years, and no-one not even the doctors could work out where the vertigo was coming from. Episodes became frequent to the point of once a month, I was missing work, and disrupting family life.
I was eventually hospitalized, where I had numerous tests, including a terrible MIR scan, they thought I had a brain tumor, which worried us all.
They eventually diagnosed Vestibular Migraine, which I had to take a number of tablets for, but still didn't stop it.
My sister-in-law casually asked one day, when did I have the coil fitted, and after doing some research an alarm bell rang.
I spoke to my doctor, who took it out that same day.
That was a year ago, I have not had Vertigo since !!
It's a great revolution in contraception, and I know I was unlucky, but from what I have read, so have a lot of other women, who have experienced health problems that you wouldn't necessary connect with the mirena coil.
Mirena Coil (sorry a bit long)
:012:
I had a Mirena fitted under GA on 12th February. I have polyps and a fibroid which were removed, and went to hospital to have an ablation because there wasnt room for a coil!! So they cut out the polyps, cut away part of my very thick lining and made room!!!
Since then I have had back pain and period pains continuously, and am now on week five of continual bleeding.
I never ever wanted this method, always was told it wasnt an option, the ablation was what would happen, then when I get to hospital (after having numerous scans etc) my 'cavity' is a strange shape so an ablation wont work, but if the coil doesnt work they will reconsider (keeping up?? I cant!!!), I had a spinal anas, plus sedation, so did agree to it, but wasnt really paying attention, who does when they are on the table??!
Never in a million years would I have had a GA to have a coil fitted, I would rather have coped with three days on the loo each month, at least I knew where I was. There does seem to be a pattern to the treatment once gets for these conditions...the pill,, then tranxemic acid,, then the coil,, then ablation,,then hysterectomy. There is a cynical part of me that says that some budget decided I couldnt jump over the coil method....
The other issue is I had real problems with the combined pill, and havent taken that for over 16 years because of migraines, was given the mini pill, but that gave me really evil mood swings, and boobs that were so sore if you looked at them I would get pains, but the mirena was just put in without any consultation or discussion of the suitability, because again I go back to my original point that at my discussion with the Nurse Practitioner (not the consultant, not sure why that was) she said that I wasnt suitable for the coil, so the pros and cons were never discussed.
I cannot cope with the continuous bleeding, the pains are getting me down.
What can I do??? I feel like pulling it out myself!!!!
I am sure if I go to mY GP it will be 'give it time to settle down' but I really am deeply disturbed by it all.
I was also anaemic on 3 iron tabs a day, and at the date of surgery my count was up, however this extra blood loss isnt helping that I am sure.
My other symptoms (does anyone recognise this, I hope I can describe it so you can understand) is that I feel constantly like I have dyspepsia all the time, my tummy always feels bloated, and I feel like I have a well of gas all the time. Also I never really suffered with heartburn or similar before, however now, if I look at any food (nothing particular triggers it off) at a certain time, then I will get acute and extremely painful trapped wind, and my bladder and bowel seem to switch off for a few hours, then once I can pass water or other (TMI sorry) then it will start to subside, but the whole process can take a day to go. Last weekend, I woke with the pain around 1.30 a.m. Sunday morning, and it was Monday before I felt human again.
Could there be any connection?
Thank you for reading, and if you could help I would be really grateful.
Hi again vsg1963. It would be hard to share my energy loss with you as I also suffer from low thyroid. At it's worst, it was like walking through water to do anything in life at all. I also work shifts which buggers up your energy levels completely. When my thyroid levels are okay, I have good days mainly with a few bad days where all I want to do is sleep. As I said earlier, this has not changed with the mirena so I put it down to shift patterns and menopause plus the need for the odd duvet day which is different and enjoyable because I am awake enough to enjoy a good read and a tap on the computer with a bit of music thrown in!! It sounds as though you have an energy problem though and I would always advise anyone to get themselves checked out for underlying health issues by their GP. Let me know how it goes.
My GP tried to convince me to have one of these things fitted, I don't think I will after reading about all of these problems!!! I will stick with the copper one! Extra hormones can't be good for the body.
Thank you to you all, it's great to read peoples experiences and get a balanced view, rather than just the docs hard sell!:)
Hi Reikibear. Why don't you extract a promise of removal if it doesn't suit and give it a go? If you are like me and have never used the contraceptive pill, I can understand your reservations re: hormones which I entirely agree with. This site nearly put me off and having a mirena coil is the best thing I have done in years - I have my life back! Even though my bleeds are still erratic, they are sooooooo much lighter that I don't care! Insertion and removal are no more painful than with a copper coil. Why would the GP push it if he really didn't think you would benefit? They are more expensive and don't last as long as the copper coil. I guess it depends how difficult your periods are and if you are coping then I also understand your reluctance. I'm just wondering why your doctor suggested the mirena in the first place. Good luck, whatever you decide. I love free choice!!
Hiya all,
I had the Mirena Coil Fitting over a month ago fitted in, I went off the depot because after reading about the depot it can take forever to get your fertile system back, and my nurse says the coil fitting was prob the best opinion but like anything I didn't go through with it till I read up about the two different onces and forums I went on before said they never had problem with them. And then having children it would be easier to fit the coil fitting in as I have one son who is 13months old.
I however went for the Mirena fitting as the idea of Copper in your body isn't healthy, and my nurse said it was the best one around.
Since it was fitted I had bad pains that last only a day 3 days after I started bleeding wheather it was a period I do not know as I'm still bleeding now. When the coil was first fitted in my other half couldn't feel it during sex. But last two weeks he could, so I got worried and pop myself to the nurse who fitted it in. She said it didn't go down and there was no problem all at. She said it was because the bits that are hanging out havn't soften, if that is true how long do they take to soften?
But also having sex it really sore during and after it.
Since being on the fitting, I felt really down most days. Even the slight depressed mood and want to cry. Mood swings and aruging with my other half, stomach hurts most days. DOn't know if it all due to the coil fitting.
Many thanks anyway Kanae
Pro Mirena-so far!
I had my Mirena fitted 2 months ago and so far I am very happy with it. I had it fitted for heavy periods. The Mirena has solved this and now my periods are very much lighter but I have to admit longer. I have had no other side effects except sore boobs before my periods. However I also had this before having the Mirena fitted. Having it fitted was almost pain free with no pain relief at all. I have had 3 children though. I was dubious about having it fitted partly because of artificial hormones and also because of having a 'foriegn body' inside me. Also because I was not convinced it would work. However I am glad that I did go ahead and I would say to anyone 'give it a go and see if it works for you!'
Hi, I am now on my third consecutive coil........every 3 years i change mine....I do not have hormoes in mine...but my periods are very heavy..and i am very very exhausted during this time. I refuse to go on pills due to the weight gain factor....overall I am happt with the Mirena coil...its doing its job!
mirena coil
don't worry, i've lost 7st in last 24 mnth, nd got mirena fitted 4 weeks ago, started to gain weight again, but was told by my nurse that in 2-3 month everything should sort itself out, cause for starters i came off the pill (which i used for 9 years), even if you'll gane some weight give it a bit of time, and don't panic. by stressing out you will do more harm to yourself than by gaining few extra pounds
Hello, I had a Mirena fitted in February, had it removed two weeks ago and now am on week 9 of bleeding............!!! The removal has not helped anything, and I had constant back pain and frequent period pains!!!!
Only my opinion.... I went back to my GP to have it removed, and they wouldnt do it, had to go back to consultant who wasnt overly happy at doing it either.
I felt better (no more back pain) but am washed out due to bleeding and dont have any fight in me to go back and ask for more help.
I also found it affected my moods, and wouldnt ever have had this coil if really given a proper choice.
hmmmm this is not good.
I had an eblation in May 08, was still heavy bleeding so went back for a scan and found a polyp, in Jan '09 polyp removed mirena fitted. I'm still bleeding, not heavy but consistently. Just when I think it is stopping it starts again.
My doctor said that I can have an injection to 'hopefully' stop it completely but I just keep ignoring it because its 'not that bad' (I used to have painful heavy periods).
I have been feeling a bit 'not myself' but I have just been made redundant so I've been putting it down to that but... wonder if its anything to do with the Mirena. back to your question - my view up to this point has been that it hasn't made any difference
Perhaps I should keep a better eye on it and I'll get back to you on that one!!!
Thanks for sharing, its definately given me 'food for thought'.
Hi I am new to this site, but have been reading with interest all of the views on the pros and cons of the mirena. I had always had heavy periods although no longer than 6 days I would clot and occasionally flood, but somehow just managed them without too much fuss, thinking they were my lot. Then last March (08) I had a 6 week period which became so bad that during a holiday in Tenerife I stood up in a resturant, and haemorrhaged so badly that an ambulance was called by the manager and I spent the next few days in the hospital having various tests and waiting to see if the doctors were going to allow me to fly home. Once back in UK I was put under care of a private gynocologist who performed a D+C, and hysteroscopy to ensure that I didn't have cancer, I was then offered Mirena,Provera or ablation. I have never been on the pill or similar but felt ablation was too invasive, so I said Mirena..however during the month waiting for the fitting I read lots of horror stories and since the bleeding seemed to have settled after the D+C I decided to try and carry on naturally...for 6 months everything was ok, then at christmas my periods became very long and heavy and I thought..here I go again, I went to arrange fitting of the mirena but as I had lost so much blood and was very anaemic I had to wait until another course of iron tablets had built me up before I could have it fitted. Well I eventually had it fitted on 26th March 09 (ironically just as my period had began to settle down) The fitting was not painful, although I do have 3 children and a high pain threshold, it was just a bit uncomfortable with cramping which lasted for about a day afterwards. I had spotting for 6 days then a period free day and then spotting again continously until 7 days ago when I woke up flooding, clotting and with stronger period pains than ever before (I have also had very painful breasts, which I never get, although these have calmed down since the flooding began) THe pains have now gone but am still flooding. I have not noticed any weight gain altough I am very careful with my diet anyway, I have had a couple of spots on my chin which is new to me also as I am 48 and way past teenage spots lol. I think I can feel the threads on examination so don't think the coil has dislodged itself. I am going to give this at least 3 months, although at the moment I feel no better than before and in some ways worse, I just want to get my normal life back. I am hoping that come the magic 3 month marker, I too will be singing the Mirenas praises, I have friends who swear by it. If not then I am going to schedule for the ablation, my periods have already taken up way to much of my thoughts in the past year.
Hi I had the mirena coil fitted around 4 years ago after years of heavy periods that got worse as time went on. For me it worked in that after the initial fitting (which was horrendous and supposed to take 15 mins but took over an hour and was very painful and had me throwing up in the car park afterwards) I was one of the lucky ones in that it seemed to agree with me, skin improved, hair became thicker, nails grew, and periods were almost non existent.
Eighteen months down the line it became dislodged and my gynaecologist had to remove it and refused to put another one in. I was also told that the only treatment left open to me was endometrial ablation which I agreed to despite my reservations and asking several times if there was any alternative. The ablation had to be one of the worst things ever, I had a course of hormone injections into my stomach to prepare for the op which affected my mood so badly - I was permanantly pre-menstrual and almost lost my job over it, it just wasn't like me. I also had a reaction to the pain killers after the op which left me covered in hives and itching.
The PMS type mood swings didn't improve after the op and it also pushed me into menopause so I had hot flushes and night sweats to contend with as well.
If I knew then what I know now I would never have had the ablation, for anyone in this position I would recommend Patrick Holfords book balancing hormones naturally, it might not work for everyone as we are all different, but if it saves even one person having either the mirena coil or an ablation its worth it.
Since discovering the book and learning about nutrition and hormones I lost 16Kgs and all the extra weight around the middle and have managed to get the hot flashes under control (still get the odd night sweat if I have too much wine lol)
Good luck to all of you that are in the position of making that choice, whatever you decide to go with.
Chris
1 month since having Mirena fitted
I was really interested in your experiences Chris, and so sorry that even the ablation has not been a success...that was my next plan if the mirena doesn't suit.
Well I had flooding and clotting for about 16 days, crazy cramping, which I have never had before, but (touch wood) the bleeding has now stopped for 5 whole days, the stomach pains have gone, I have not put on weight. My hair is much greasier and needs washed every single day as opposed to 3 times a week and I have a few spots that haven't been a problem for the last 30 years. My biggest concern at the moment is the very strong pain in my left breast, bad enough to wake me at night and getting worse instead of better..I have been to the doctor who is on the fence re whether it is a symptom of the mirena (I am sure it is, and just worry that the hormone could trigger something sinister if left unchecked) he just thinks it is early days and the symptom may or maynot be related but wait until 6 week check (about 16 may) before doing any further investigations.
Chris, I too read a book, well several actually by Suzzane Somers, called Ageless, The sexy Years and Breakthrough...all of which endorse the use of Bio identical or natural hormones,(great reads and very though provoking!) but when I spoke to my GP he wasn't really up to speed with these american concepts. I do worry that synthetic hormones may have toxins in that may cause other side effects, but as I say it is early days for me yet so I need to give it a fair trail before I go having it removed.
WOW what a lot of different experience!
I have PCOS and had a severe bleed of late which resulted in anemia.
My consultant told me that he wants me in for a scope, a biopsy & fit the
Mirena Coil.
It has been sold to me on the basis that If I havn't already got cancer then I could do if my womb is not kept thin.
I am 36 and at the moment feel as though there is no option.
Another bleed like the last one would weaken me so much.

HI survivor,
I had the coil to control the bleeding too, it seems to be starting to work, I have had 9 days with no bleeding, today is day 10 and have had a tiny amount of spotting...the cramps that I had a few weeks ago were as bad as contractions during labour, making me double over for a couple of days but they thankfully have gone and I am feeling better than I have in a long time, I feel like my anaemia that I have had for over a year is subsiding, and I have more energy and am sleeping better too, I went back to the doctor about my painful breast and he gave me ibroprofen gel to rub on it and I am being sent up to the hospital for a mamogram next week, although I am sure my problem is hormonal from the mirena as I have never taken any form of hormones before and have never suffered from breast pain/cramps etc in the past...but I am lucky that my doctor wants to err on the side of caution with regards to my health. I am really hoping for everything to settle down by 3-6 month period, I want the mirena to work for me as can't go on with the horrendous cycle of flooding/d+c/hysteroscopy/blood transfusion merry-go-round that i have been on for the last year...good luck to you, and anyone else that is suffering in a similar way, let's hope that we get lucky with this treatment
Apologies as this is the first time I have been on the site since February.
Hello VSG1963,
Glad you have had a positive experience with the MC as I have. I think its the best and easiest contreceptive device I have had, in that you dont need to think or worry once its in, no pills to remember to take etc. Having it fitted is uncomfortable and you have to be patient and persevere for a while for the body to settle down in order to feel the benefits. My periods now are almost none existent, the only time I know one is coming is that my breasts get tender for a day or two, then I get some little cramps known and again on my lower right hand side of my stomach just to let me know something is happening, I then get a few little spots for a few days and then its gone. No real need for tampons as such and life is great.
I have taken the pill for most of my adult life, so thought the MC would be ok as it too has hormones in it.
Its a shame so many ladies dont seem to get on with the MC. I guess I am lucky in that it suits me and I do think its a great device in that I know I dont need to think or worry for the next 5 years or so (fingers crossed I dont get any gyno problems).
Yikes - just had an MC fitted today....
I had a Mirena fitted earlier today and just before I went off to my appointment I did a quick search on the web and up popped this site. I'm not sure if reading everyone's posts has been a good idea or bad and now that it's done I'm back on site trying to find some postive posts, which I'm glad to see there are a few of! Over the years my periods have become very heavy and whilst regular and pain free, I'm always worried about flooding, especially at work! I hadn't really considered the Mirena as a way of controlling this, probably because I don't need to use contraception (hubby had the snip after our kids were born) but I have a couple of friends who sing its praises. It was therefore a bit of a shock to see the flip side of the coil!
Anyway, today went ok, just mild discomfort and some bleeding. I'm hoping for a good outcome and that I can enjoy my summer holidays but I'm really quite concerned about how long it may take to settle in, possible mood swings and weight gain, not to mention loss of lobido, which isn't exactly high at the best of times! I'm almost 48 but in fairly good shape but its hard work to maintain current weight without thinking about additional pounds.
Anyway, on reflection, reading through these threads has at least educated me on what I might expect so for better or worse we'll just have to wait and see!
Mirena update....
Well, now two weeks since Mirena fitted. I have to say I am starting to feel a bit more relaxed about my decision. I haven't had any real problems, just some light bleeding/spotting for a few days which I expected. My period is now here (timing as normal) but it has been much lighter with no clots or floods which is such a relief. I did have very tender boobs right up until my period started but I would be inclined to suffer from that anyway. Weighed myself this morning and that was ok too. I'm not counting my chickens yet but it seems to be working out for me.....
4 months on
Hi, all.
It's now just over 4 months since having the mc fitted. I had frequent, although light bleeding for the first 3 months but now nothing for over a month! This is fine for me although anything would have been better than the heavy flooding and pain I was experiencing before. I do not have any other problems with the mc, threads still in place, tender breasts have gone and no weight gain or acne. So for me a good decision so far anyway!:D
mirena
I had the mirena coil fitted yesterday afternoon. I am a 22 year old women who has never had any children. I was told that after having the coil inserted I would get some cramping pains but this would improve after a few hours. The actual procedure was quite painful but very quick and the doctor was lovely. After the procedure the pain seemed to subside for about 30mins probably due to the relief of the initial awful pain. But within half an hour i started getting the most awful cramps imaginable. I have always had quite painful periods but this was much worse. I wanted to cry. To make matters worse when i tried taking any pain killers I would throw up violently. I was so worried that i looked at the forumns and i must say that they scared me to death. I though my cramps would last for ages and I had not been warned about this. Any way i persevered and I want to say that today 24hrs after having it was inserted the pain has drastically subsided. I feel able to return to work and i am not taking any pain killers. I just wanted to say this incase there was anybody else in my position. It felt awful but it did not last.
All the best
Mirena Coil
Hi, found this site by looking at side effects of this coil. I have found it all interesting reading.
I had mine fitted two weeks ago under general anaesthetic (had hysteroscopy and D&C at same time). I had dreadful cramps for a couple of days which settled down into mild cramps, with the occasional pretty dreadful one. Also I have been bleeding almost continuously since then. Today is the first day when I think it might be stopping. The bleeding has been odd, not heavy at all and with some small mucas type clots.
All the other side effects people have mentioned I already have, adult acne, hair growth, weight gain.... A lot of my trouble stems from underactive thyroid and polysystic ovary syndrome. Also I am 48, no kids and heading towards the big "m".
Reason for fitting the coil was to control periods. In fact it was suggested by my gynae over 6 years ago, but I chose not to do it. However, my last "proper" period lasted 44 days with horrendous flooding and feeling like I had a constant tap dripping. The only way to stop the bleeding was to take the same hormone as in the mirena, but in a mega dose three times a day. Decision made.
I hope that it will settle down. Every days seems a bit better, but then it can feel awful for short period again - two steps forward and then one back.
I shall persevere as I have a friend who is on her second one and has had no problems and no periods since then.
I will update progress as I have found it very difficult to get any positive feedback from the internet and this site appears to have very balanced viewpoints which I have found very helpful.
mirena coil
i had the mirena coil fitted 4 1/2 yrs ago. the doctor took me off the pill as i was having headaches and left me without contraception and it was taking a yr to get sterlised. however the family planning clinic sugested the mirena coil. so i had it fitted and its the best thng i did. my periods dissappeared and only spot very lightly monthly. however i am getting married very soon and want ot have another baby with my new husband. so has any1 who has had this coil had it removed and fell pregnant without any problems
Hi,
I have been reading the posts and cannot believe how lucky I have been, I had the mirena first fitted nearly 10 years ago, it was the best thing that I ever did after years of misery with such painful periods. I have not had periods since. I must admit it did take 9 months to settle down. Since then my 2 daughters who had not had children at the time also had the mirena fitted with great results. I have recommended it to many friends and their daughters. Of a bout 15 people that I know of who have had it fitted only one has had any bad side effects and had it removed the rest are delighted with the results. Give it time to settle before you think about having it removed it can sometimes take as long as 9 months.
Best Wishes
Kim
Hi all I had a Mirena Coil placed on the 31st of Jan 09 so it has been now about 6 months for very bad period pain and irregular periods (every 2 weeks), the bleeding is slowly coming to an end thank goodness, but now I get very bad cramps that come and go in my lower abdominal on my left hand side.
Has anyone had anything simalar problems as i am still not sure if this is working for me however i do not know what else is good as I have tried depo injection (8 yrs) and pill (12yrs) and they are not good at all
Thanks
hi all,
well, another story in the pot. I got Mirena fitted last May and had it for 2 months. Absolute nightmare! I think i had every single side effect it possibly had. I had swollen feet, strong pelvic pain (it reminded me giving a birth everyday, not something anybody would want, pain is even storing during period), acnes, weight gain and surpringly period for 4 weeks continuosly. I was so tired with it at the end of it, my doctor and i were hoping my body would gradually get used to it and it never happened. So i ended up begging my doctor and got it removed. such a relief...
i am on marvelon at the moment. Not too bad. Still gaining weight though. Being moody sometimes. well, could have been worse.
alright, good luck to all.
take care
