Successful remedies for eczema in children

My 12-year-old daughter has eczema on her back, arms, thighs, and knees. It also sometimes appears in the folds of the skin and around the elbows. I have tried so many things without success. Any ideas?

Instead of taking potluck with yet another natural remedy, try and make a more detailed assessment of your daughter’s eczema. If, for instance, it appears more like a raised rash, then she would benefit from using a good quality aloe vera gel. If the eczema is dry and flaky, I would choose a starflower cream that contains organic borage oil; a substance that is rich in the essential fatty acids that are so crucial to maintaining healthy skin.

One of my favourite but little known eczema remedies is made, believe it or not, from an everyday weed. Stellaria media is what you and I would know as chickweed. In the garden, it grows alongside stinging nettles and in natural medicine, it is used to take the ‘sting’ out of inflammatory skin conditions, including eczema. So if your daughter’s eczema is hot and itchy, use Natural Life’s Chickweed cream. If patches of the skin are broken, then you can also use a soothing calendula cream.

*Natural Life’s remedies include the aloe vera gel (£3.95 for 60ml) , the starflower cream (£5.50 for 50g) and the chickweed cream (£5.50 for 50g).
