I have always suffered from eczema only recently has it been at it's worst. I really don't want to keep on using steroid creams and i have tried aromatherapy oils to no avail. Tonight i am having a hypnotherapy session in the hope that will at least stop me scratching all the time, i have high hopes for the hypno as it worked so well in stopping me smoking. I would really like some suggestions as to how to keep this painful skin allergy under some kind of control.
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
Have you tried homeopathy? It worked well for my young daughter, I cant off hand remember the remedy she was prescribed, but coupled with Calendula cream topically, hers was kept under control
Now if she gets a flare up, we slather her in Aqueous cream (not E45, but the cheaper generic that you can get in any chemist, only about £1.80 for a huge tub), and this generally stops the itch/scratch cycle.
I will look up her remedy for her if you like, but it may not be the right one for you:)

RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
Hi there,
I too suffer from terrible eczema. It sounds as though you may need to go to the doctor and get an anti-biotic cream/steroid cream combined (like Fusidene). If the wounds are infected, then a steroid cream will not fix it.
I also find bandaging the affected areas useful: this stops the cream from getting on your bed clothes, keeps the cream in the affected ares and stops you from scratching.
I buy a cream called Eumobase, it advertises itself as a "concentrated rehydration cream", but doesn't have any active ingredients in it.
If you want to keep away from eczema creams entirely, Vaseline is always good. 🙂
Hope this helps,
Laura

Symptoms & signs on the skin are an indication that there is something that's going on at a deeper level. Eczema is generally recognised as an allergy related problem.
I'm sure you'll find other threads on the subject with the HP Search facility.
I treated an old friend for this condition with NAET and after clearing some basic food sensitivities, the one that finally cracked it was treating her for an allergy to carpet glue.
That's a one off, as it could be pretty much anything.
Good luck - Andrew.
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
On and off over the years I have suffered from a terrible dry and flakey scalp.
Now what I wanna know is what exactly is it, as when I went to see a doctor and asked her what exactly is it, she then replyied 'well I dont know' in a abruptive tone.
I dont know if its just dry skin, dandruff, eczema or phoriasis.
You see I have two medical conditions that could suggest it be either or eczema or phoriasis. I have asthma which is linked to eczema and I also have Arthritis which is from the same family as phoriasis.
I have tried two different shampoos which dont particularly work. The only thing Ive found to work is Daktacort cream, which cleared it up completely yet my doctor said they could perscripe it too me over a long period as it contains steriods which can thin out your skin.
🙁
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
At the moment I am using johnsons baby shampoo and conditioner as if its gentle enough for a babies scalp I thought if i used it then it might stop my scalp from getting any worse.
I also colour my hair and thought that it may worsen my condition but I have had the condition even before I started colouring my hair.
I think it could be eczema as it started around the same time I was diagnosed with asthma.
Any aromatherapist out there can you recommend any essential oils or recipes for essential oil blends/treatments that may help either of the following scalp conditions. dry skin, dandruff, eczema or phoriasis.
Any comments would be highly apriecated.
I would like my scalp to be clear one day especially for my wedcding day, which will be like in ten years time at this rate, lol. Not bothered though as I am very happy as I am right now.
Merry christmas everybody. all the best for the new year.
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
I would recommend a colloidal mineral supplement combined with a few other things that would help. PM me if you want more info.
cheers Colin
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
Hi
I had ezcema a few years back on one of my legs - was prescribed some cream (forgotten the name - huge tub with dispenser and think it starts with a D)
A month ago it came up on my arms, around the elbows and travelling down near the wrist - again used E45, Aqueous, and Eumovate cream. None of those worked so went to docs - she prescribed Eumovate ointment - that did work!
It has returned again but on one arm only and the ointment is not working this time
I havent changed anything - the only thing i can think of is maybe the gloves i wear for work
But the itching is unbearable this time - i know it sounds silly, but i have to put a bandage on to stop me from scratching it
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
I would recommend a very good cream called 'Renew' - it has worked wonders for my friend who noticed a dramatic improvement in just a few days. Please PM me if you want more info.

RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
I used to get the occasional flare up behind my knees, elbows, under my arms which would drive me mad and used everything I could other than the steroid creams from the doctor (had to on some occasions though). Since I stopped eating bread (because of bloating etc), I've found that I no longer get any eczema/dermatitis.

RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
Thank you for the suggestions, my eczema has stopped for now, but still dont know whats causing it - will give that cream a go.
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
Hi Michelle,
I am really glad the eczema has settled down for know. My daughter Jody gets eczema whenever she gets stressed, being that she is in her last year of school there is no wonder at it bless her. I have put her on a course of Bach Flower remedies, I dont know if this might help you in the future, I know its hard when you dont know what is causing it to happen, but I have used Bach Flower remedies in the past for lots of things and I find them to be so effective.
Lets hope you dont have another flare up.

Hi viccles,
I don't know where you live but if you ever get chance to visit Cornwall, go to Parr beach. The river washes down the kaolin from the mines and mixes with the sands. My bother went there many years ago - he had chronic eczema - but after a week of playing in the sand his condition improved dramatically and he has been free ever since. Just a thought for you 😮
Best wishes

RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
in the long term, please please find out what it is you're putting in or on your body that it doesn't like. a visit to a qualified systematic kinesiologist could identify yr particular problems very quickly and help you clear it up FOR EVER. all these drugs and creams are like putting a crepe bandage on a broken leg - covers up the problem but doesn't fix it!
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
Hi Viccles,
Forever Living Products have some very good products that could help here, I use Aloe Propolis Creme which is made with 100% stabilized aloe vera gel for my Psoriasis, its cleared it almost completely, its very good on skin conditions such as eczema & dermatitis as it contains a natural antiseptic that helps with these conditions.
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
I have to agree with the previous advice. My little boy was born with eczema and for 6 years we battled to deal with it. We used allsorts from our GP, to no avail, we tried various herbal remedies, nothing got rid of it. We were then introduced to Forever Living products (which we are now a distributor of) and started giving our little boy the Aloe to drink and used the propolis cream on his skin. We also tried to eliminate any stimulants ie bubble baths, soaps, washing powders and switched completely to the products from Forever. He needs to keep using the products or his skin begins to change back. It has completely changed the quality of his life, and ours. Stress or weather or things he ate would make it flare up before, now we very rarely use the creme because his skin islovely. It's hard to believe he has eczema.
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
Hi,
I am glad you are not being troubled with your eczema right now.
I can sympathise as this is a horrible thing to have.
I agree that aloe vera works wonders...it is improtant to drink it so it is working from the inside out...so many ways in which aloe helps. it can be bought from Holland and barratt and I have found their aloe juice just as good as the pricier alternatives,

RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
I like the FLP products, but just one word of warning about the Aloe Propolis cream - my friend used it on his ezcema/red dry patches/not quite sure what it is and it got worse. It contains Lanolin and he is allergic to wool!
He previously went to see a dowser to find out what he was allergic to and this helped to point to some things, like citrus fruit, his does seem to be more stress-related.

RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
Hi
i've had a flick through and don't think i'm repeating myself but i have found chickweed cream has been brialliant.
I have tried several other natural methods and none have been successful. If i have a severe outbreak with weeping etc i do find that i need one or two applications of steroid cream to bring it under control but the chickweed is great for managingmy condition. I have only has to used a steroid cream twice in the last month (two applications each time) rather than using it daily.

RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
Another good remedy for easing the problem but not solving it is to get a cup full of dried porridge oats, put them in a muslin bag. When in the bath squeeze the water from the bag onto your skin and when finished keep squeezing the goodness from the oats into the bath water. Your skin feels like silk afterwards.
Aqueous is a good moisturiser and not a cure, also Hayleve tablets stop the itching if you are having a bad itching attack, they used to be called Piriton and are available on prescription and over the counter. Skin conditions are usually worst in the winter months due to central heating, lack of natural light and lack of sun to the body.

RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
I used to suffer with eczema for years and have some theories around how it comes about - the potential cause - and how it can be resolved - let me know if you are interested 😉
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
I have been going through quite a difficult time over the last few months and have noticed that my eczema flared up, which was understandable. However things have settled down for me and I feel happy but I keep getting what look like heat lumps, insect bites all over my body and they are really itchy, they can't be insect bites as no one else has got them so I went to the doctor who told me it was a form of eczema, then I went back because he perscribed me antibiotics that didn't work and he change his mind he then thought I had scabies, after much going back and forth to the doctors they have now settled on something to do with my hair folicles which seem completley bizzare to me.Wondered if anyone had ever experienced this and what did they do to clear it up.I am covered in what looks like bites and scars where I have scratched too much.
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
i too have suffered for years and lately it has got much worse if i say it feels like hundreds of bugs are crawling on you only a fellow sufferer would understand i have tried oils they did not work i have been using a nonsteriod cream that the hospital gave me for a couple of years and that seems to have stopped working i know i have to go back the to docs but i dread getting a streroid cream again cos my skin is so sore at the moment and i bruise so easily now help anyone
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
Hi There,
I put a post about eczema in the childrens section as I have recently found a fanatastic range called "allergenics" - the products contain aloe vera and vitamin E amongst othernaturalingredientsand it is £5-6 for a lotion ot bath wash etc ..It is Lanolin & preservative free and i have recently found out many of us are actually allergic to the preservatives in theemmolients our Gp's have given us so, with this info in hand I bought some of the allergenics range and my daughters eczema is now controlable !
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
since i posted this i had to go to the doctors and he gave me steriod cream which really i did not want as i know my skin is getting thinner and ant histmines and for the moment it does seem to be improving but for how long i do not know
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
I can sympathise I had it for years and its so sore and I was doign my best to stop sctracthing when I was awake and then would wake myself up sctraching in my sleep - I would highly recommend things like Hypnotherapy and also there is a cream that they sell at crabtree and evelyn called La Source which is really soothing and moistruring - it worked great
RE: my eczema is driving me crazy
Hi, my son has or hadbad eczema for 12 years- i cut out all washing powders 2 years ago and bought eco balls, i make all my own natural soaps and shampoos, he doesn't use bubble bath or anything bought, imake it all myself- i made emulsyfying cream using beeswax, eliminated some things from his diet and i am pleased to say that he is now eczema free the majority of the time.
There is nothing worse than watching someone scratch themselves so much that they bleed and then get infected skin - i'd tried steroid creams that bleached his skin and spent a fortune on this and that cream - the steroids worked whilst i used them on him but when he was left with big white patches it really made me worry about the dangers to his health.
getting rid of washing powder and conditioner made a huge difference, diet didn't change too much and it is hard to limit a childs diet so by getting rid of the chemicals that he has on his skin seemed the easiest way - he hasn't had touse steroids of creams for almost 2 years and has been almost eczema free during this time. ironically or coincidentally, not sure which, his asthma has also cleared up which is a huge relief to me.
good luck
Anne
