Can anyone offer any suggestions, please?

My 16 year old daughter came up in what looked like a heat rash on Tuesday. She had spent the morning in a very hot exam room, so we thought it might be just that.

However, since then, the rash has spread over almost her entire body.

My daughter has not eaten anything or used anything unusual.

The rash looks like small white bumps that turn red when she gets hot or scratches, and she is in extreme discomfort.

I tried calamine lotion (no effect) and E45 Itch Relief cream which does help a bit to reduce the itching

We have seen our GP who says it is just some reaction to something and prescribed some strong anti-histamine and more E45 cream and told us to go back in a few days if things do not calm down.

I just wondered if any of you have any ideas as to how we can effectively reduce the itching while we wait for the condition to clear?

Thank you.

Hi Derek

One natural remedy which helps itchy skin is aloe vera gel. It heals various skin conditions as well as being anti-inflammatory. I use this .

Hope it clears up soon for your poor daughter.

Heat/allergy rash is uncomfortable at the best of times. She will need to keep cool - if it's hot I wear a damp long-sleeved shirt which I wet again as necessary. A water spray is helpful too - I keep mine in my handbag.

Along with the aloe vera it might help to have oatmeal or baking soda baths - cool rather than hot.

It might be useful to see a kinesiologist to see what has caused the problem. Has she been on antibiotics? If so then probiotics are essential to rebalance the gut bacteria - in the region of 20 billion of mixed Acidophilus and Bifidobacteria, and Saccharomyces boulardii to reduce the inflammatory process in the gut - inflammation allows molecules which would not normally get through the gut lining into the bloodstream. If this happens the body reacts to them, forming antigens thinking these are invaders. Down the line this can cause auto-immune problems so it needs sorting now, before things get any worse.

Hope it gets sorted soon.

Thank you Caroline.

I did think about a kinesiologist if it doesn't go soon. Charlotte has not been on antibiotics or done anything else unusual, so we are at a loss as to what has caused it. but thank you for the excellent advice as always!

And thank you Moonfairy!

How dumb of me - we actually have several aloe vera plants growing in our house and do use the juice for cuts and burns etc., so I'm not sure why I didn't think of it myself!

I have used up quite a few leaves and the juice is working well to cool the skin and reduce the redness and itching.

Hopefully, the bumps will go when Charlotte's body has finished doing whatever it is doing to remove whatever needs removing!

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Derek it sounds exactly like I had quite a few years ago during one very hot summer !

VERY VERY ITCHY WHITE LITTLE LUMPS..

I suddenly got them too on day and was very very uncomfortable. I spoke with my landlady who told me she got them as well..what she did was drink the old H2O.

I followed her advice and within a couple of days........all gone !

SOLUTION...water !!!!!! drink lots of fluids. They are due to dehydration.( I do not go in the sun for I have very very fair skin) without you knowing you are dehydrated.

she should try to drink lots of water. It worked for me, my landlady and a friend to whom I advised the same thing.

I hope I have helped and hope to read if she gets better.:)

Thank you, Ming.

Am keeping Charlotte cool with lots of water and fruit - will up the H2O and see what happens.

I think it is going slowly!

Hiya Derek

My son gets a lot of heat/allergy rashes and it drives him (and me) crazy! The most effective thing we've used on him is aloe vera gel wisked with chickweed carrier oil (I use a little coffee frother to wisk). It produces a really light mousse which doesn't leave the skin feeling greasy and reduces itching really quickly.

I hope your daughter is feeling much better.

Best wishes

Lucy

I used to get prickly heat when we lived in Oman - best cure was Porridge Oats! I used to put a cup full into a muslin square, tied tightly with a rubber band, and let it soak in a tepid bath for 5 minutes. I then used to sit in the bathwater, dabbing myself with the porridge oat bag. The relief was immense - and the bathroom smelt like home - Fife!!!

Thank you Redduck.

My aloe vera plants are decimated, so am going to buy some gel as it does have a lovely cooling effect. I'll try the frothy oil blend and see what happens!

Thank you Jabba.

This worked a treat. Charlotte spent 40 minutes or so in the bath and came out feeling much better. And, as you say, what a smell - lovely!!

Charlotte is still red and spotty, but does feel that at last there is some let up.
