they don't grow at all??? Have never heard of that - sorry.
it takes 6-8 months for the nail to grow (from bottom to top) so have you seen any growth from 6 months ago?
One reason they may not grow is dut to damage to the matirx, located under the cuticle but more towards your hand. Have you been using false nails and taken them off incorrectly?
Have you been using steroid cream (rubbling it in somewhere with your hands) - this may also hinder the nails health....
Nail growth is also hereditary....how quickly do the nails grow on either family's side.

I AM THE OTHER WAY ROUND. I cut my fingernails at least twice a week, but only cut my toenails on New years day. My toe nails never grow, I long to be able to paint them but they only reach the end of my toe in 12 months of growth. I know my finger nails grow because I do massage and use oil so am constantly stimulating them, but every three days I sit and rub oil in my toenails but alas no change!

hi 3091, toenails take longer to grow naturally....it's due to lack of sunshine, nutrients, rich blood supply, all that sort of stuff. I would recommend you treat yourself to a pedicure and put your feet up, literally 🙂
you can give them a french polish to give the illusion of length 🙂

wow, well i hope all is ok, i'm sure you have had it checked with your doc.
i woudn't advise you to get fake nails gel/acrylics etc as they may damage what you do have.

possibilty of damage to your matrix, but only if its on one nail, have you dammaged it?

Best advice visit a health pro, such as a podiatrist who is HPC registered degree trained (Bsc pod) they will look at your feet and make sure your blood supply via your major arteries is all ok. assess your health and beable to identiy if you have any medical conditions that might be causing your nails not to grow. It is difficult to diagnose anything without knowing your medical history or your age family history, drug you might be taking. it could be lots of reasons why they are not growing, if you are old, it might be part of the aging process. Hope this helps.

OPI nail envy is excellent to strengthen nails and support nail growth and avoplex cuticle oil is beautiful.

also gel and acrylic nails do not damage the nail at all if they are applied properly and removed carefully by a proffesional.

it is poor aftercare that causes nail damage.

I can vouch for strengthening and protecting the nail with gel, it enables your nails to look good and more importantly helps them to grow by protecting them from everday chores

Have you tried just massaging the cuticle area?

By doing this it will stimualate the matrix area and promote healthy nail

Nails grow on average from 1/8" to 1/4" per month. Eating a balanced diet will keep the nails healthy, but NOTHING will make them grow faster. Taking a vitamin B complex suppliment will help keep the nail plate flexible and strong, so will applying a good quality nail and cuticle oil twice daily. Never file the free edge with a metal file -- it tears up the nail plate layers. Use a filt with a grit higher than 180, and buff to a high shine with a 3-way buffer. Sorry, wish I could have had better news for you. FYI: Using the 'horse hoof' stuff may make the plate appear harder and some people equate strength with hardness, however that is a myth. A glass rod is hard, but will easily break. A rod that is flexible will bend under pressure, so keep the nails oiled as it will maintain the correct balance of oil and moisture within the nail plate.

My fingernails don't grow (but toenails do!) has anyone else ever heard of this?

Hello,

Base on my daughter's experience, She's 18 years old and her nails is not growing well and i'm really worried about her nails. I also ask for help in some forum like this. And there are more suggestion & opinion regarding my daughter's problem. One of them suggest to try Hercules Biotin, and I'm not repent to give her a Biotin. Now she has a confidence to show her fingernails.
Biotin really helps nail to grow faster and stronger also preventing nail brittleness.

Hope it will help you.
