Missing Dog

What a sad posting this is going to be .. sorry ! I invited my sister to come for a rare visit today, she was in need of some stress relief and light banter. My mother has three little dogs she loves dearly, she battles with a serious illness and the pets are very precious to her. My mother is on a little holiday with dad and one of the dogs, my sister is looking after the other two and brought them both with her. One has gone missing. We were at the chicken coup gathering the eggs, I came in, she thought he was with me,, but he wasn't. He is a very old dog, 17, with some ailments, including being deaf, so he wouldn't hear us calling for him. We live in a very rural area where there are lots of ditches and dangers for an old weak dog. We have searched everywhere, in the wastelands, the brambles the ditches, all farm buildings asked the neighbours. OH and DD searched too when they came in from work Not only is it sad that we cannot find him, but, we are also going to have to make up a story to our mother. She couldn't bear to think he was missing in this way, and she has enough to cope with, so we are going to have to fib and say we have had him put to sleep. He hasn't been well, no bladder control and his deafness etc, but they wouldn't put him to sleep. I said to my sister, perhaps he was meant to come here today...a very rare event indeed....in order to leave us. It still leaves a mighty bruise in the heart though, and doubt we will sleep much :(

I am so sad to hear this and feel for you Fleur ,I remember someone at work years ago telling me the same thing about their elderly dog and feeling that I would worry myself sick if this happened to my beloved pets ,however I believe humans are not really as sensitive to where their path is leading as are animals and what might seem a frightening situation for us may well be a natural progression for our animal friends ,I hope this makes some sense and offers a bit of piece to you and your family
