Hi
I believe C.B.T is usually thought to be the way to go with O.C.D.
But I was wondering if anyone has heard of/experienced any benefit from E.F.T for this condition?
Many Thanks
Tc x
What's E.F.T . Damn these TLA's lol

What's E.F.T
It is the Emotional Freedom Techniques. In my NHS work as a therapist I have to use CBT for clients with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, but in my practice I will always, always add EFT into the equation (if the client is willing) as it speeds up treatment considerably. The limitations of cognitive therapy can be that on some occasions, whilst the client may understand on a logical level that their behaviour is irrational, on an emotional level they still can't help giving in to obsessions and rituals - there is a lack of so-called "head & heart" connection. EFT is excellent at bringing the head and heart together in my experience.

Understanding why you do something does not mean you are healed of the condition, so little lasting change can occur just by grasping logically why you do something.
The limbic system (emotional part of the brain) resides on the right hand side of the brain, where the real issue often lies, but logic is the realm of the left hand side of the brain.
You can now begin to see how the left hand side of the brain very often will have no idea what resides on the right, so integrating the two hemispheres of the brain is key for lasting change to be effective.
I often wonder with CBT what happens to the traumatic imprint? Is that ever healed?

CBT does work for trauma (hence recommendation by NICE alongside EMDR for post-traumatic stress disorder), with the cognitive treatment involving repeatedly re-living the traumatic memory in order to put together all the fragmented pieces and behavioural treatment involving exposure to trauma triggers to achieve habituation (i.e. getting used to seeing/hearing/sensing the trigger with the fear/anger response diminishing). However I much prefer EFT and EMDR for trauma treatment - whilst some level of upset is inevitable, these approaches in my opinion result in less distress during sessions and can be quicker.

I find any therapy that continuously subjects the already traumatised person to more trauma quite barbaric.
I use flower/gem essences to tap into trauma, no need to relieve it at all, although some issues do come to the surface/memories etc as the brain is healing itself and the fragmented parts become integrated.
A person who is traumatised does not need further trauma, they are already traumatised.
Thanks for your input guys. x
I healed my OCD with Emotional Freedom Technique. It took quite a while of persistent tapping and a few relapses but I have not had an intrusive, obsessive thought in at least 2 or 3 years now. And it was very bad in my case, I was on antidepressants for many years to control the panic attacks and OCD.
So it's definitely possible.
Now I use Emotional Clearing, EFT and Transformational Breathing as the main therapies to keep myself healthy 🙂
If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Love,

Hi, EFT sounds good. I would also recommend consulting a Homeopath.
I am new to this site.. Found it trying to look for new ways to help to heal myself. I am more desperate now than ever. I have a 5 month old daughter and am suffering. I would love to learn more about the techniques that yuns have mentioned.
I am on medication, and in therapy. (Since I was about 16 years old, am now 29). I am diagnosed with OCD, anxiety (social and GAD), ADHD, and bipolar... I also suffer from chronic thoracic back pain which goes untreated and undiagnosed (am in a pain clinic; trying for other opinions at a musculoskeletal specialist).
But I am in desperate need of being the best me possible, not only for myself but especially for my daughter. Any insight, resources or information that anyone can give, please! I am willing to try any and all forms of treatment.

Hi there I felt I needed to reply to your post. Sorry I don't have any answers but my daughter is in a very similar situation as yourself. Her baby is 8 months old and she has quite severe postnatal depression, social anxiety and generalised anxiety. She suffered OCD as a teenager, depression, self harm and terrible anxiety but in her early twenties all these issues became dormant to an extent and have now reared their ugly head with vengeance. She is on various medications which I'm not sure I'm allowed to mention on here and is engaging with the community psychiatric nurse and has been referred to a psychiatrist. My sister is a psychotherapist and has recommended a treatment called EMDR therapy which we're going to get privately for my daughter. I hope you get the help you need to make a full recovery X

I'm so sorry to hear that your daughter has gone thru it for so long. And now is rearing its ugly and agonizing head again with an 8 month old baby. It's awful. I've recently heard of EMDR therapy, which I have been looking into as well. I have just went to see my new therapist yesterday (My old care center got bought out by this new one, all files were diminished so having to start all over again. Ugh!)
If you don't mind me asking, what medications is she prescribed? Do they seem to be helping?
I am prescribed anafranil, klonopin, adderall, and neurontin... And am waiting for my prescription of abilify to add on into my regimen. Before I was pregnant, after 10+ years of many different kinds of "cocktails", I finally found one that worked. But having to start again after having my daughter, I'm trying to find that stability again. It's so very hard. If you or your daughter ever needs to talk, please don't hesitate to message me. It helps to speak with someone who understands, to feel not alone.
I appreciate you replying to me. Every little bit helps. Thank you so much. If I don't hear from you... I wish you and your daughter all the best! <3

I am so sorry to hear about your troubles. I think EFT could be a useful option, as could mindfulness. There is lots about mindfulness on the internet but I would suggest you find a local practitioner or join a local mindfulness group if you can. If you happen to live in or around the West Midlands pm me. I would be happy yo try to help you face to face

Heal your self is a very common idea in present times.
When you seek healing, it is telling you consciously and subconsciously that you are broken, not normal, need mending and fixing. And until that happens, you can't live normally.
That is the biggest damage therapy has done at large. It helps if sought specifically for one specific obstacle and then go on to live as best as you can
But the way the therapy works is, it keeps diagnosing so much wrong....that therapy, the expert, the help itself become the biggest hinderance to normal functionality.
Just look, you have been diagnosed for so many things. Good grief. You must feel all others are perfect and you are just broken mess. How is that helping you?
And they been at it for 13 years...and you are worse than ever...ask yourself what does that diagnosis even mean? What expert, what diagnosis , what help?
It hasn't simplified, it has further complicated you and your situation.
World is full of therapists, experts and Alll the rest of jazz.
The way you can help you is forget about all they have told what is wrong with you...radical? Yes, but it will liberate you from this vicious circle of useless therapy
It should have been clear that if they can't sort in 13 years, maybe they can't do it. Simple.
So seek not help for fixing you. Seek yourself, you are always there.
Therapy is unsettling. People can't see it because of desperation. It buggers people up.
Relax, settle down, sit, breathe, relax. Relax into your brokenness, if you like.
Look around, everyone else is exactly the same, the same mess, same compulsions, same habits- some good some bad. See that the therapist themselves are pretty broken. How can they mend anyone?
This merry go round ends with you. Start relaxing with breathing easily. When tense, just keep breathing and breathe nicely. Breathe nicely. Some space will be created. In which right help may come without effort.
Start feeling whole. Trust me, it is no more than that. What is if you feel whole, the whole life becomes whole?
What if it is easier than you imagine
Gather strength. ' Experts' can deplete and disempower despite the best of intentions.
Be there for you.
It will come good for you
Love
