Hello
Does anyone know whether the candida spit test (ie spit into a glass of water first thing in the morning, and see whether strands and specks form) is valid?
I did it this morning and got instant strands going down to the bottom of the glass, very quickly. I have been feeling particularly bad with sinus headache and extreme exhaustion. I have posted other threads as was diagnosed with cfs/fibromyalgia and am still trying to work everything out. I have felt pretty bad over the past week despite being a lot better for a while, and something made me think along the lines of candida as I've done the diet and taken lots of supplements before, under a naturopath (about 15 years ago) and remember feeling great after a year of this. Unfortunately the naturopath has now retired (he used Vega testing). I don't know where to turn at the moment but am looking into Naet as well as Sarah Myhill as recommended on here. guess I have to be patient and find solutions but it is an extremely distressing condition, and I don't really know what the condition is.:(. I also feel desperately in need of support today but feel that no one understands my problem, as it isn't visible and I sat at work and couldn't do much all day or speak to anyone, and it stresses me more to think I appear really moody and negative but I know I'm just ill and in pain/exhaustion. Thanks for any help!
a friend of mine who does colonics and nutrition told me to do the spit test, she rates it.

Hi Again Trace .
I haven't done the test so sorry can't help there .
You mention that you under went a supplement treatment / diet a while back - have you continued the diet (different way of eating) .
I always thought I have eaten well personally speaking but since I eliminated certain foods (like pasta, bread, processed foods, sugary foods) my energy levels have sky rocketed over the last 6 months .
I still am on a phase of eating a lot of natural yogurts, cottage cheeses (probiotics) and cleanse myself with peppers / garlic / cloves often .
There are so many other ways that can Increase your energy Trace . I work with sound (toning/chanting/drumming) I do yoga / meditate, running, crystal work, colour therapy and connect with the elements / nature as much as possible .
Try and seek out a healer?
That will start to get the ball rolling so to speak If you find you don't have the energy to kick start your own recovery . I understand an Individual can become caught In a loop when self motivation Is lacking as one has no energy .

We were taught that the spit test is a good indicator. Unfortunately modern lifestyles make one prone to Candida, not least of which is the use of antibiotics.
There are many approaches to dealing with this problem, and Dazzle has described a useful way to go to cope with it. Read Dr Sarah Myhill's protocols very carefully, they are tried and tested - rereading it has reminded me of some things I'd forgotten! Oh, and your GP might even take you seriously and test you for it and offer antifungals (but I wouldn't hold your breath in my experience). A registered Nutritional Therapist would help sort you out, I know.
Erica White's book Beat Candida cookbook is quite useful too - but it is a very restrictive diet that some find difficult. Whatever you do, it involves avoiding those foods that feed the fungus and taking nutrients that support your body's immune function.
Hope you get sorted soon.

Hi Caroline
Thanks again - you helped me on my previous fibromyalgia post. I had got as far as filling in some of the Sarah Myhill questionnaire but have not taken it further yet or decided which tests to take. I will have another look at her website. I've also contacted two NAET practitioners and an awaiting an appointment. The candida or whatever it was was so bad yesterday that I shouldn't have been at work. I did eat very simply and drink lots of water, yesterday and today and am much improved already. I did have a massive spasm today though which i think is IBS. I've had this 3x in the past week so have made a doc appointment just to make sure it is nothing more serious. I am really working on not worrying or stressing too much, which is not easy but I realise I do need to do some work on my mind.
For some reason the spit test showed nothing today. Maybe it was something I ate - I had a small amount of dairy over the weekend. it is so baffling but I hope to get some help through the NAET practitioner who is also a naturopath and herbalist. So maybe I have candida and fibro. I suppose candida will appear whenever the immune system is not working well. I had always thought candida was my main problem, but it appears to come and go. My head is much clearer today and I am trying to be more positive and proactive. The vicious circle of it is the worst aspect, which is why I need some outside help for now. Thanks for the response, it is so helpful to have some feedback.
a friend of mine who does colonics and nutrition told me to do the spit test, she rates it.
Thanks maychang.

Thanks dazzle. I have been doing lots of things over the years, but maybe none of them quite consistently enough. I don't know what is stopping me, but when I get terrible symptoms as I had yesterday I suddenly buck my ideas up. I eat fairly well, lots of veg, and try and eat very simply ie just some cooked veg or salad and baked potato, or anything fairly plain, if I am particularly unwell. I also drink more water and herbal tea when unwell but forget the rest of the time. i guess I take my body a bit for granted but I don't abuse it - it seems to be highly sensitive and sometimes it just gets too much having to be careful all the time. So in answer to your question, I am doing about 2/3 of the regime I was on before, with supplements, but occasionally I let it all go. I don't drink alcohol (can't) and eat virtually no sugar or desserts, also very little dairy. I have an allotment and love being in nature but again perhaps don't do as much as I could if it didn't get tired/negative. I have mentioned in response to Caroline that I am looking into different things. I have never tried a healer but might consider this. i am having CBT counselling with a lady who is lovely and i get a lot out of those sessions though have only just started. i actually feel so safe with her and realised I don't feel safe in the world, and I need to be around this as it helps me to centre myself and cope with the outside world a bit better. That way i can start to take risks. It really is a massive journey!
Candida is a symptom
Hi
Candida is reaching epidemic levels, but have we ever wondered why people who have had a splenectomy and are on long term antibiotics very often not do not get it. Well most people treat candida with low GI diets and anti fungals, reduce stress levels and try immune boosters. But toxicity, deoxiginated blood, heavy metals, bowel toxicity, dysbiosis are the main areas to address. Liver function and health is also overlooked.
After following general candida protocols people who do not address the above will have reoccurances.
Consider detox, mineral imbalances, liver cleansing and function. Do you have amalgam fillings (mercury). Bowel cleasning. Probiotics.
Yes the spit test is very good indicator of candida, normally also seen with a heavy coated tongue, food, intolerances, skin complaints, digestive gas and bloating, brain fog, pain, liver congestion and many more..........
Hope that points you in right direction..
Pete
