Hello all,

i've suffered with asthma, allergies, Rhinitus and hayfever most of my life. It's been at it's worst recently n sometimes really getting me down. I've been taking antihystemines, and an inhaler for years, and recently been hearing that they can be damaging! Has anyone else heard this, and what are the best quick alternatives? (i'm going to start taking local honey in prep' for next year) I'm dreading going through another winter with a blocked nose and itchy eyes.

Blessings,

Efia

Hi Efia,

I would recommend that you get to work on your relaxation levels. I too have suffered from allergic rhinitis and various allergies, but it is only when I am feeling stressed that they seem to kick in. If you see an allergy specialist they will probably go through lots of tests to find out which ones you are particularly sensitive too and discuss how you can live a reasonable life.

Do you have complementary therapies and if so which ones. You also need to look at all aspects of your life and aim to live an harmonious life. I think to live a healthy life you need to consider all aspects of yourself your diet, exercise, lifestyle, relationships personal and work, spirituality.

I am just relieved that I am not allergic to chocolate, as my friend is at least I can have a bit of comfort now and again from a small amount of indulgence.:)

Thanks so much Binah, very wise words and it's re-minded me of a few things.
If i'm honest,my life is far from harmonious at the moment. I try and get on top of it when i feel motivated, but it's not easy with a blocked nose, itchy eyes and tight lungs. It's a vicious circle really!
I'm not having an therapies, cant afford them and dont really know which to go for, there's so many!
Yes you're right, thank God I'm not allergic to chocolate! Love the stuff:) Thanks again for your kindness,
Efia x

Hi Efia

I do sympathise I know how wretched it can feel.

If you don't have much money there are ways of having low cost therapies at further ed colleges that teach complementary therapies, students are often are in need of 'bodies' at a very reasonable price per treatment.

Also yoga classes could help you to relax your body and mind. I find the breathing techniques particularly helpful and I go at least once a week.
It's a very small price to pay for peace of mind and more; once you are familiar with these techniques you can incorporate them into a more regular daily practice.

love binah:)

Hi Efia, have you thought about going down the homeopathic route, a friend of mine has, and the results so far have been very promising. He had homeopathic remedy for hayfever, and went on a breathing course for his asthma, pleased to say he is doing well.

I'd endorse the homeopathy and many towns have low cost clinics. If you ring a local homeopath, he could tell you where, probably. As a last resort, you could buy a book or look it up on the net. Many of the remedies could help you.
Long term use of any drug has to be questionable and any way they only suppress the symptoms, not cure the condition. There are alternatives but they might not all be the quick fix you're after because they'll address your overall health and that won't necessarily change immediately.
These sort of symptoms are really only there because of the general state of health not being so great, so anything you can do to improve that- (reduce stress for example) would also help. HTH Hom
