RE: I Wonder if anyone could help ?
Have you ever thought about hypnotherapy ? Perhaps you could find out more about it by looking at that section on the forums.
I've never smoked, so can't really give any advice about specific non smoking things like patches etc.
My great aunt gave up smoking about 3 years ago (after about 45 years smoking) after the doctor diagnoosed osteoporosis and said that if they did give her tablets to take for the osteoporosis and if she continued to smoke then the smoking would stop the tablets from doing any good. She was so shocked that she never wanted another ciggie after that and she's kept off them. So sometimes the shock can actually do it.
Wishing you all the best.
RE: I Wonder if anyone could help ?
Hello,
I used to smoke about twenty in the week and when I went out drinking at the weekendI would smoke 40plus[:'(]
Here goes:
Ask yourself why do you want to give up?i.e..smoking kills...it ages you...its not good for the people around you...it cost loads of money and so on...
Make sure you really want to give up otherwise it will not work.
Put the money you would save from not smoking in a pot and buy something nice for yourself?? Pamper weekend....a trip somewhere nice?
Avoid the places were you might be tempted.
Finally I used to be a home help...and I used to visit a couple who had smoked all there life...in the end both of them were on oxygen...they could do much....
Good luck
Rachelx
Ps try hypnotherapy
RE: I Wonder if anyone could help ?
A little tip that worked for me, (and another friend I recommended it to):
When you get a craving, do something that takes approx. 5 mins. This will distract you from it.
They shouldn't be lasting longer than that for the real physical need. The rest is physchological. The cravings WILL lessen in strength and duration in time-trust in this. And each time you beat a craving it makes you STRONGER to beat the next, not weaker.
Remember though, everybody is different so if this doesnt work for you, then youwont havefailed, you just havn't found the right thing for you yet.
But I have more faith in you than that as you really seem to want to quit and that really is the key.
Best of luck!
RE: I Wonder if anyone could help ?
I recommend Alan Carrs books.
Easy Way to give up smoking and The Only Way to give up smoking permanently (havent read the first, only the second).
I tried every method under the sun (other than that bioresonance thing mentioned on another thread). All were temporary. Hypnotherapy was good - got about 2 weeks outta that.
but overall, it was the right time for me, even when i tried Carrs method at first, it only lasted 2-3 weeks, but when it DID come time, I knew it and felt that this WAS it, and just faced it..
All the other tools in the past helped, but overall i think the foundation from reading his book helped me keep strong during the tough phases and also help dispell all the myths beautifully.
Even if it doesnt last, its enlightening to read and get rid of the socialised myth and lie we tell ourselves that smoking does anything for you.
Good luck!
Darren
Hi Kat,
Can recommend EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) - it does wonders for addictive cravings and also the underlying issues, and you can use it as a self-help tool.

Hi Kat...
How y'doing? Found from experience that stopping is almost impossible ! I say almost...After smoking for about 20 years, I stopped ! Hurrah ! For 2 years !Then I started again ! For a year...Doh !
Have recently stopped for good...ahem ! That was about 4 months ago...The point I'm trying to make is that the urge to light up NEVER leaves you...I could easily smoke one now ! Seriously...
The key to succeeding is IMO that you WANT to give up 101%...that's truly the start point. This is where will-power comes in...and the determination to turn away from repeated self-destructive behavior-patterns.
Remember that you are only human, and have some patience with yourself...and in the long run, you will succeed, tho' it may take 1 or 2 tumbles from the wagon before you get there !! I didn't even get close to considering giving up until after my Reiki 1 attunement...think that from then on, this started some sort of deep-seated self healing ball rolling...
Don't think it's that important how you manage to stop...different strokes for different folks and all that...the most important thing is to see it through, and to really mean it in the first place ! Don't think there are any easy ways out of nicotine addiction...but they say nothing is impossible !!
Anyway, this is how it worked for me...Mr. Addictive Personality ! So have faith...
Good luck...Peace. Nev. x
I echo the hynotherapy idea, traditional acupuncture is another option. As you react to the nicotine patches it kinda suggests an allergy to nicotine.
Addiction & allergy tend to go together as many crave the very thing that they are allergic too. May be worth looking at NAET to clear the allergy, reduce the craving and hey presto.

Give up smoking
All these therapies can help, but that is all they can do - help! You must be ready to give up, and really want to. This sometimes means making lifestyle changes in order to facilitate giving up. For example you may smoke out of boredom - in which case you may need to find new hobbies and interests.

Well said Jon.
I totaly agree with you. I have given up after 40 years. No cigs for three years. I just said to myself that's it no more. No therapies or patches etc, just will power. Like you said, everytime I had an urge I went and did something constructive and the urge just left. After about 6 months the urge just dissapeared. The smoking ban may help many in the winter, when to go outside for a puff means getting soaking wet and cold.
I used a very highly reccomonded therapist who used a combination of EFT, NLP and hypnotherapy............I had tried everything under the sun prior to this including hynotherapy as a stand alone treatment. This combo was mindblowing, it gave me all the tools necessary to go off and beat this dreadful addiction. So main thing is to check your therapist is reccomended, check on their success if possible, and only go in to this if you are REALLY committed to quitting otherwise you will be wasting your time. Good luck.
I also recommend Allen Carr's Easyway book. I smoked 45 a day and had had enough of smoking i didn't have the will power to just give up so i bought his book and it totally changed the way i felt of thought about smoking. My husband smokes and i can honestly say i never get the urge to light up. Good luck.
I gave up nearly 4 years ago with the help of a hypnotherapist.
When people say the urge to smoke will never leave you - I disagree, I don't ever think about smoking again, never get any urges, and I am around a partner that still smokes.
With hypnotherapy they break the structures that have been set up, these structures are held at a subconscious level, not conscious, perhaps that's why I never get any cravings or have any urges to smoke.
The essence of Amethyst is very good to help with addictions and cravings. I'm taking it at the moment to stop eating chocolate, it's working very well as I've not had a bar of chocolate for nearly a month.
Hi again, you must be so confused with all the differing advice oh mystic one!!! lol. Just would like to add that it's important to bear in mind that while all of this advice is fantastic, that it's that old "orse's for courses" scenario. No one peice of advice is tailor made to suit you, but the methodology can be if you so choose. This is a huge step and massive comitment that you will be making, therefore it is so important that you invest your time wisely by doing your research, and sensing what or who feels right for you.....try it on for size, what does the therapy involve, how does it feel? Gather as much info as you can from all concerned in order to make an informed decision about what could work for you. Ensure you chat with the a therapist beforehand to ensure you feel comfortable with them, relax and be yourself, make a list of any questions that you have to ask these people, this is your opportunity to make an informed choice - a good therapist will be only to happy to consult in this way, and will indeed welcome it - after all if they have a reputation to preserve then they will be keen to prove that.
I've been three months now, although I have stopped for long periods in the past, I know that somehow this time is vastly different, I am still being guided by my inner witness while I continue to gain to me the great accolade of being a non-smoker...........Weh hey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love and laughter.

I agree with all these wonderful options , Have u tried medications such as Welbutrin and a new one on market is Chantix which has a very high % rate BUT bottom line you have to truly have the want and desire . I know most of you are in the UK on this forum but u can ask your pharmacist about thse medications or something similair (these are both by prescription) and the Chantix is very expensive 103.00 USD but its worth saving your life and money
It may turn useful to change to tobacco "sniffing" as most dangerous
effects of smoking are of smoke itself not nicotine.
It may appear less painful to give up then, as body will get extra
strength from no longer being poisoned by cigarette smoke.
Moreover, smoking pipe with special prescribed daily schedule
was described for healing heart diseases, and it was quite shocking
to read as the author was Kasudzo Nishi a famous buddhist therapist and one of founders of macrobiotic science.
