Hi,
I wanted to speak with people that worked from home. Do you advertise your home address? I haven't so far, just stated the area but I think it could help. Do you have any rules or tips for meeting new clients at your home or at their home, sorry if I'm being parnoid! And has anyone experienced issues with advertising their home address?
Thanks,
Jo
Hi Jo
I just include the name of my road on the web site, fliers, cards, advertising, etc.
I prefer to meet new clients at my place first, rather than their place - so far that hasn't been a problem. When I do get someone I don't know, I email their details to my wife and then email again after they've gone. I also have a panic alarm in the room with me, which would trigger a call to a monitoring centre. The theory is that the police would be round pretty quickly, but I haven't put that to the test yet!
Of course, I always form a view when someone new calls me. If they don't sound "right", I don't have any slots available for a few days. If they're genuine, they'll book ahead.
Hope that helps.
Steve

Steve thanks so much for this information! I will just put my road name yes, but does that mean you can't be listedn on google places? And I did that when travelling, always emailed someone at home the name of my hostel at each place : ) Where did you get the alarm? How much was it and do you have any links? I know some friends that don't have male clients but I would hate to have to do that!
Hi Jo - I replied earlier, then the door bell rang and by the time I came back, the laptop had gone to sleep and my reply had disappeared!!
Anyway. I have been a sole-trader for many years. I do not have an alarm (live in the middle of the countryside - nearest police station is 20 miles away) nor have I ever felt the need for one. Like Steve, when I receive calls from potential 'new' clients, I never book them in either same day or next day (usually this is genuine, as I'm currently booked up 6 weeks in advance!) making them wait until the following week. For those who call on recommendation from one of my regulars, I can generally fit them in for a consultation, but possibly not a treatment - but this is a good way to meet them and plan future treatments.
I do not advertise my address or postcode, instead I send address details when they book - that way I have their email address/telephone number and address.

I don't think its a problem on Google, the map gives a general location, but they'd have to be pretty determined to find you that way.
The alarm is part of my house alarm system, so you can't buy it separately. Might be worth checking if you can programme your phone to make an emergency call though.
And Jabba's point is a good one. I always email my address to new clients, but never thought to add it to my security email. Doh!
Thanks both of you for your advice!
Yes there could be concerns working from home.
In my case I like to book appointments when my family is at home. I am sure it also puts the client at ease, especially if they are female. If the appointment time is when the family are not likely to be at home and I feel it appropriate, I will book a room at my local therapy centre. But of course not everyone will have that option.
At the time of booking an appointment, I would highlight the fact that my wife and child would also be in the house.
Of course the other thing to do is to set the intention that everything will be OK anyway.
Kind regards
Peter
Thank you Pete for your response. As a female I'm more worried about me than them if I'm honest as I'm sure they will feel comfortable with me at home alone. I will start out with new clients making sure that my partner is home or that my friends that live close are aware and have all details and I can perhaps call when its finished. I also always imagine these things in a positive way before they happen and know that helps :).

If you're a life coach working from home, I would include your address especially on google places. You want people to leave google reviews so potential clients can read how effective your life coaching method is. If you don't include an address clients won't be able to leave reviews on google.
I would also create separation between personal and professional life. I would not appreciate it if I had to listen to distracting sounds during my life coaching session. Consider scheduling sessions when nobody else is home.
I have a home office. I provide my clients with a quiet, and safe environment to share their thoughts, and emotions with me, even though this is life coaching and not therapy. So I believe it is important for life coaches to provide a safe and quiet environment for clients.
Fortunately, I live in a condominium highrise. We have common rooms we can take advantage of. So I conduct all consultations in the boardroom. Its safe for me and safe for the client.
