Any advice on which one is the best to join? In terms of what employers look for? A lot of companies give staff discounts to get Complementary therapies but insist you are a member of governing bodies such as FHT, CMA etc. A recent client gave me a list of about 10 that his company would accept but I'm wondering which would be the best/most recognised to join?
Hi Jenny
There isn't really any governing bodies as such, apart from in Chiropractic and Osteopathy. There is the government recognised "voluntary" register for therapies like reflexology and massage etc, the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), but it remains to be seen to be effective or useful.
So it boils down to professional associations and taking advantage of the services they offer. The two largest is the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) and the Complementary Therapists Association (CThA). It's personal choice, just go with the one gives you the best deal. Both organisations are industry recognised and been around for a long time, and don't accept mickey mouse core qualifications like some other of the multi-therapy associations :p
Best wishes

Bcma
I was asked today why I wasn't a memeber of the BCMA by a potential student. Anyone here a member? How do they rate against FHT (of which I am a member).
(It would cost an absolute fortune to be a member of all these organisations!!)
I'm not a member of either - I stick with my main PA, as I only offer one therapy - I have insurance cover through an insurance company, rather than a 'body'. What would multiple memberships achieve? As you say, basically just more money!

I really really wish that were true 🙁
