Hi all ,
I completed my Reiki 1 and 2 3 years ago and practised regularly for about a year, I then fell out of the habit but in the last 6 months I have been receiving Reiki from a lovely lady in Cambridge. I am quite a practical person, I would like to be more spiritually guided but I use Reiki in a practical way to help people who come to me for treatments. My Reiki Healer is very similar so its been a very good experience for me, also she is closer to my age then most other Reiki peple I have met so I am keen to do my Masters level with her and she is keen to do it with me too.

The only thing is, she has trained in Tibetan Reiki, so she did Usui Master, then tibetan Master/Teacher, she has not done Usui Teacher.

As far as I know the major difference between Tibetan and Usui teacher is that Tibetan only has 1 attunment for each level whilst Usui has 4. She says that her students come to her and would not usually ask specifically for tibetan or Usui attunment, but I am just a little unsure as to whether this is what I would want to offer. I guess I want to stay "authentic"!!! I am far away from wanting to teach, but I think in the long run if I seperated Master and Teacher it would cost more and might be a bit wierd to have it with another teacher again. Does anyone know of any other differences?

On a positive note, she tells me that people with "other" Reikis such as Tibetan Reiki tend to develop their skills further?!

I have had many treatments with this lady, we get on very well and I trust her, but I am just wondering what students would expect in terms of attunments?

Thank you in advance for any guidence, experiences you can share!!!

Sam

Hi Sam,

I may be a little biased, but I tend to favour the more traditional form of Reiki as developed by Usui-sensei. I did my masters with a teacher that taught both the Usui and Tibetan attunements. I only ever use and teach the Usui attunments. When carrying out the attunements, I find the Usui attunements feel more natural and seem to make sense. The Tibetan I find feel 'forced' and less natural. The other thing you have to think about is, one day you may be teaching Reiki for a living, and I find Usui Reiki is more well known and in greater demand than Tibetan.
The Tibetan system uses a different Master symbol to the Usui one. Tibetan Reiki originated in the USA and has no connection to Tibet or Japan. The attunement process itself is quite different and involves different practices.
As for 'being far away' from teaching, you may be surprised how quickly you start to teach Reiki once you take the master's course! Good luck with whatever you choose to do - let your intuition guide you.

Hi there
My understanding of the "three/four levels" argument is that my lineage from Usui sensei, through Phyllis Lei Furumoto/William Rand, has three levels, while another lineage through another of Takata sen's masters, has four. The third level was split because this master wanted to introduce a teacher level as well as an advanced practitioner level. I may be wrong of course!

I'm interested in this idea about "different" Reiki's having different energies. Guidance I have received from my guides indicates that, once I have received the Reiki Master atunement I'm attuned to any and every Reiki. Personally I'm not sure about this because I received an attunement to Celtic Reiki which was definitely different (and resulted in me being able to understand the cypress trees in my garden.... spooky!).

What does anyone else think?

Thank you for the replies, I do think I would like to keep to the original system, atleast to begin with. But everyone who I have had Reiki from (around 4 different Masters) have all done the normal Usui Master/Teacher and then gone on to do another type like Seichem (if thats how its spelt!) or Tibetan. And they have said it is a different type of energy and has helped their development... I guess you never know until you try!
I would love to hear some other comments from anyone else with experience as well please:)

Hi Sam,

Thanks for your interest in Seichem. Just know that there about as many variations of Seichem that there are Reiki Variations. I did a quick check in the Reiki Source book and about 30% of the Reiki Variations have their roots in Seichim.

From the spelling I can usually tell which lineage you are referring to. Since you used the Seichem spelling you are probably referring to Kathleen Milners lineage. Kathleen is a very good teacher and I do highly recommend her, just keep in mind if you decide to learn and teach Tera Mai Seichem you have to make a commitment not to receive another attunements from other Reiki or Seichim systems.
Even though I introduced Seichim, I do not teach the older style attunements anymore. Currently I teach a class called All-Love. Very deep Initiations happen in the class, these Initiations help you make a very strong connection to source and have a very powerful way of opening the heart.

All Love
Patrick
