Hi Paul,

There are many forms of healing and every individual that receives treatment from any therapist or medical practitioner will feel that if their illness or injury has fully recovered then they have been healed (by their own measure of what healing is). Whether you feel that they have been healed by your personal measure of healing is irrelevant. Not everyone wants or needs or is ready for 'a change within their whole being which will change the environment that the body functions within, that is how healing manifests as wholeness' - some people just want to recover from their illness/injury/emotional trauma and feel better.

I agree that not everyone is prepared to take personal responsibility for their own general health and wellness which is what healing self empowers them to do, so obviously they will not look to healing for an answer, they will look for an alternative way of getting themselves sorted out.

Therapy and health care does allow them to a lesser or greater measure to abdicate personal responsibility for their general state of health and wellbeing and pass that on to the therapist or health care provider, who is supposed to fix them without the healee having to do anything to resolve the underlying problems within them, which are creating their symptoms of pain and suffering.

But from your own personal experiences of applying healing in this way to self and others, how does tackling the symptoms of pain and suffering without resolving the underlying problem that is creating it, work out in the real world, in general terms of the amount and frequency of healing sessions required?

That is a good question, but there is no single answer I can give you. Every client/friend/family member I have treated is an individual with their own particular circumstances.

I do not treat clients with 'normal' conditions more than 6 times as this has been sufficient to give them the level of recovery they wanted.

Chronic illnesses such as cancer require on-going treatment until the cancer is gone or the client has died. With clients with chronic illnesses I teach them (and any family/friends) Reiki for free so they can have Reiki regularly.

I treat clients as they present. Some clients have illnesses with emotional/lifestyle causes that we address through Reiki and lifestyle changes. Some clients have injuries that are just that, injuries so the client wants the injury to recover and nothing else - so we work like that. Sometimes clients just want their manifested symptoms/illnesses to get better, so we do that for them and they recover without working on emotional/lifestyle issues.

Not everyone is in a position to make changes and by telling them to do so when they cannot, it can cause distress as they feel powerless and guilty as a result. Likewise telling a client they are responsible for their illness can cause emotional damage to someone with low self-esteem and self-love issues. There is a very fine line between helping a client take responsibility and making them feel guilty and hate themselves for causing their illness.

I advise clients on the best treatment plan, but I leave it up to the clients to decide to what degree they want me to work with Reiki.

That is a well balanced reply Omega. 🙂

Yes, I can see how this can arise if healers have not got the right tools and conceptual understanding to deal with it in an appropriate manner, thankfully we have all of this and more well covered, so we are happy to heal all of the problems that you have mentioned. 🙂

To me it is not about the healer (therapist in my language) it is about the client and what they want and need. I try to work without ego and take what I want out of the equation when I am working. I allow clients to decide what they want treated - I avoid thinking I know what is best for the client and this allows the client to stay in control of their healing without feeling pressured into agreeing to deeper healing that they did not want or ask for.

We all have different ways of working, it is all good, just different. I personally would feel uncomfortable forcing life-changing healing on clients that only came for a minor injury or illness.

Hi Omega1

I agree with giving the right type of healing to suit the requirements of the individual, but I am a little unsure how 'self empowering people with the tools and conceptual understanding that allows them to make informed personal choices' fits in with your last post?

Hi I am a member of the UK Reiki Fed occasionally I get new clients through people seeing my details with them (I am a Master Teacher), they do a scheme where you can have your Teaching work verified etc to be on their list but there is a charge for this. I haven't done this, maybe others have paid?

I am on the block policy with Balens and Balens also cover multi therapies (all therapies i do are covered), plus also my cosmetic side of things, although i pay an additionla presium for that.
