Hi all,

I'm really happy to be giving a workshop for a womens charity that support women who have sufferred from domestic violence (these are some of the most severe cases) I wont be giving this until July but I have to hand in my proposed lessons of learning to the superviser of the workshop pretty soon and I'm going to discuss some of this tomorrow with her. My question then is (I have never held a workshop before and being it such a delicate enviroment) How do I give Reiki to 15 women I am aware how to do this for attunements and so on but I'm a bit concerned they wont really be getting enough attention, I am not attuning just demonsrtaing and healing!

I could split them into groups there will be about 15 of them in total but really would like to give them all some personal attention!

Any advice......

Thanks Skybud

Hi Skybud,

I used to volunteer at a women's charity some years ago when I was first starting out as a therapist; it was a very rewarding experience, and I also met some amazing women. Reiki definately had quite a positive impact for many of the women that I had the honour to work with...it's great to know that caring people are out there helping those in need.

I've been teaching for about seven years now, but I generally do that one to one or in very small groups (my maximum course size is 6). Personally I'd feel quite overwhelmed with 15 people, and there's no way that I'd be able to give each student attending the personal attention I'd want to, unless I had some help from another therapist or teacher. (you're very brave!)

Perhaps you could start the workshop with a little talk on Reiki...its history, uses etc., followed by a question and answer session. Afterwards you could offer short treatments as a demonstration.

Do you have any friends / colleagues who also practice Reiki? If you could find maybe 2 people to assist you, then you could possibly split the 15 into 3 smaller groups so that everyone could receive a short treatment from a practitioner?

Hope this helps and good luck!

Allison

Hi aurorareiki,

your post has been really helpful. I dont think they have had therapy workshops before as is it a small charity who mainly deal with counselling but they want to add more after care as a confidence boost for these amazing women.
So I think I could work with the superviser about numbers because 15 is large
I had thought of giving a little intro but dont want to go too deep into that because of the size and time limitations. A, Q & A Session is perfect and will add that to. I dont have anyone who practices reiki available on that date so it will be just me, I am sure it will all work out just want to make sure these ladies get what they came for!

Thanks for the tips they have been really useful!

Just a thought maybe I'll post on HP for some reiki and positve thought for the 24th July the day of the workshop to go really well for the women.

Thank you

Skybud

if you think in terms of each of the 15 women having 2 minutes of reiki from you, then you need (in pairs?)

this could be 3 different things for ten minutes each or two different things for 15 minutes each

I might go for the 10 minute blocks and section the room into 4 parts, literally or mentally, so everyone walks round the room (like moving around the table at an alice in wonderland tea party)

sector 1 is where the reiki is going on ....2 minutes ..one receiving and partenr observing, then swap

sector two could be aura /energy sensing 10 mins

sector three could be looking thru the reiki principles and discussing with their partner/small group how they moight apply to their job/sutuation in the refuge 10 mins.

sector three just deep breathing ..following the breath, to see how calming it could be

Hiya

I agree with one of the other posters, 15 is a bit big for a workshop.

We had a Reiki Master come to our Reflexology course not long ago, and she talked about what Reiki was and Dr Usui to start with. Then she went through the Reiki principles and how Reiki is used. Then she demonstrated a healing session on one of our number, and afterwards did a Q and A. That all took about 50 minutes.

I think with women who have been abused, it's important that they see the process of a Reiki healing session, that the touch is strong, supportive, not "sensual" as my spiritual healing mentor calls it, and that both giver and receiver are clothed. Also that touch is not necessary for Reiki to be transmitted. All these things are important to those who have been abused.

Asking women to give themselves healing takes the energy away from being Reiki to being spiritual healing, in my opinion. Don't forget that in order to give Reiki one needs to be attuned, and I'm not sure I'd like to attune that many people at once!

Good luck!

Hiya

My reiki teacher took me to a work-shop she was doing once. She talked a little bout what reiki was, and then started to demonstrate. I had a chair at the back of the room where I was doing quick 15 minute sessions. So if you have any students, this would be a great way for them to gain hands-on experience. 🙂

Not attuning

Hi thanks,

for all the replies I'm not attuning at all, this is just an introduction and a chance to demonstrate the wonder of Reiki.
I am aware of the delicacy required for this particular workshop and take all your points on board just a bit of a dilemma on how to reach all the attendees..I am going to suggest a smaller group and maybe they could bring in some other form of complimentary therapy and we could work alongside each other that would be great.

I'll let you know how the meeting goes tmw

thank you

Hi Skybud

I think it's an excellent idea to have this workshop. I have been giving voluntary Reiki sessions at our local Woman's refuge for the past year to residents and staff and they have proved to be very popular and such a great help to the women who are in a very difficult situation. It's such a humbling experience when they come in so stressed and go out so relaxed.
I have also given introductory talks at Adult Education Centres that can have up to 12 people and i sart with a brief history of Reiki then tell a few stories of situations where I have used Reiki and then offer to give two minutes of Reiki energy flowing to each person by standing behind them and gently placing my hands on their shoulders and letting the energy flow for their highest good. I always check first if they mind me placing my hands on them and if some are not happy then I do it hands off for them. I ask all of them to close their eyes and think about their breathing and then just go from one to the other until everyone has felt the energy flow. It's amazing how the energy builds up by the time you have got around to everyone and the room becomes more 'relaxed'. I found that the majority found it to be very relaxing which I'm sure your ladies will feel. As you are doing this out of love I'm sure they will respond to the energy.

Good luck and I will be thinking of you in July!

Love and light

Here's an idea, which may sound odd at first, but it could work.

After you've given the introduction/history etc. talk and perhaps done a treatment demonstration on a single person just to demonstrate what a one on one treatment is like, you could then ask them all if they would all like to experience it and if so, get them all to stand in a circle facing the back of the person in front and putting their hands on the shoulders of the person in front and ask them to relax (close their eyes if they wish). You too stand in the circle with them and for, say 5 minutes, allow the Reiki to flow through everyone. Afterwards you can discuss with them what they felt/experienced.

IMHO, a good way to get them all feeling like they are together. 😉

Love and Reiki Hugs
