I was just wondering how everyone explains to their clients that they may be worse before they feel better after their treatment ? I understand that the reiki is clearing any negative energy and removing blockages but it would be nice to have a short concise explanation.
Thanks

I think it's best to just outline the kind of things that MIGHT be experienced, since not everyone might understand 'negative energy and removing blockages', eg from my own guidelines:
Following your attunement to Reiki, you might go through a period of about 21 days in which you go through a detox. This does not happen in all cases, but if it does, your body is simply releasing and letting go of the old, in order to make room for the new.
During this time you might experience physical symptoms such as a cough, cold, headache, spots or a slight stomach upset. Emotionally you might feel up and down without apparent reason for the mood swing. Rest assured that this is all quite normal and will pass. It is not possible to predict what each individual will experience it is a very personal thing.
followed by recommendations such as drinking plenty of water, meditation etc
Although this was written for students who have been attuned, the same applies following treatments.

Most people seem to understand when I say that reiki sometimes acts like a poltice on a boil... it brings things to a head, so they can drain away.
Interesting thread! I was considering starting a thread on the healing crisis. I am level 3 Reiki and IET but don't recall experiencing a healing crisis when I had my attunements. I did massive clearing but it seemed to happen there and then. Last weekend I had two Reiki treatments and one IET treatment, and now this week an old viral infection that knocked me about 6/7 years ago has popped up to say hello! It's no way near as bad as it was when I first got it, but I am surprised all the same. Guess it may be a lickle healing crisis!
How do you explain the healing crisis ?
I don't see why the word "crisis" has to be put with the word "healing"?
Isn't that a bit like a contradiction of some sort?
If I was looking for healing, I would be asking...
How do you explain healing?
That is a very good point Flit. I don't know why that term is used.
I expected to be feeling amazing after my three treatments last weekend, but have gone from mouth infection to sore throat and cough now! I wonder if this is just a 'clearing' rather than a 'crisis' (or maybe its just a 'coincidence')!
I call it a 'healing reaction'. I don't like the word 'crisis' and think it may scare some people.

I much prefer this phrase. thank you.
I also use the expression 'healing curve' as this seems to sum it up quite well and does not sound as dramatic as 'healing crisis' 🙂

Healing curve is great, I'll use that from now on - Thank you.
Healing crisis refers to the detoxification process that may take place. The first thing that Reiki does is to clear the body of toxins, if any. This could be excess urine, stool, phlegm, fever or for that matter even anger. Once this is done the energy finds it easier to flow through the body and start working on the actual issues. As most of you are aware, there is a 21 day self cleansing ritual prescribed after each attunement. One of the reasons for this is to allow detoxification to happen. This may not happen to all, it did not happen to me.
Cheers !
