Scanning through past threads and keep coming across quotes like "when the student is ready the master appears" or "use your angel guides to guide you to a reiki master" etc. So just wondering how did you all came across your Reiki Master.
Also does it matter who initiates you into reiki or is the effect the same regardless? or is it a case of you must choose your reiki master wisely and if so any pointers and advice on how to go about doing this.
Love and blessings to ya all 🙂
Hi there
There was a thread on choosing your Reiki Master in this forum earlier this year, have a look for it.
My Reiki Master appeared when my best friend Ruth asked me to go to a Reiki 1 class with her! I know I didn't choose him according to what has been posted in the past, but I'd been waiting for this opportunity for about 10 years so I knew it when I saw it.
Because I learnt Reiki a while ago (nearly 10 years ago!) - Not many people knew what it was, I could only go by recommendation... so I just went to the Master who had taught my friend. I didn't really research it, just went "with the flow", which was very odd for me as I always research things!! Maybe this was a sign in itself!!!
Good thread BTW!
It seems that in both of your cases it was almost like a chance happening. Not really planned, just kind of stumbled into it. I feel that I'm in the beginning stages of my research and like to research things fully. Just a little cautious as I'm not sure if there's such a thing as a bad reiki master (i.e. one that doesn't know how to attune someone properly, offer support etc).
Thanks Chris will try to find that link you mentioned.
I found James Deacon's website helped me find what I was looking for in a RM, and then it was asking around and talking to different RMs.

I always recommend that interested parties get a treatment from a potential teacher and have a chat with them about their approach, training and so on. By the time you're finished, you should know whether you'd like them to continue with you or not.
Failing that, you can go the intuitive way... which is what reiki is all about anyway! 😀 I found my first teacher through an article and the 'co-incidence' of hubby having an overtime payment just in time for the course. 😉 I found my second teacher on the internet, through a casual 'it would be great if you could attune me distantly...' remark. That was the most amazing attunement of the lot! I found my final and continuing teacher through spiritual guidance.

I was at a Mind Body Spirit Exhibition 12 years ago helping out on a stand and I knew that I wanted to find out more about reiki. So I walked around the exhibition (there were several stalls on reiki) and was drawn to a wonderful lady with whom I booked a reiki session with. I was blown away by the experience and knew that I had to go the next stage and book my reiki
training.
I didn't talk to her as such I just let the reiki do the talking and it did.

I remember i rang my reiki master from the shool i was teaching at one lunchtime, i managed to tell her my name and we chatted about how i wanted to change my life and i mentioned the name of the school i was at. Suddenly we got cut off. I tried to call her back and the line was totally dead. I needed to go to register my group so i left it for the rest of the day. Next day i was mega busy then the following day i received some post just addressed "sarah - into mind body spirit" and the school name, staff knew it was me out of 130 staff and a few other sarahs! It was from the reiki master i was chatting to. She took the time to write me about 3 A4 sides all about Reiki, she didnt do flyers or advertising material and just had one line in the yellow pages in Hull. I got such a good "feel" from the letter i just knew that she was the one. We got along great and we always keep in touch, she taught me that once you are attuned that is just the first part and she never abandons any students even now as a reiki master teacher i meet with her and bounce ideas and experiences off eachother, just as i do with my students. Sometimes things are just meant to be!

That's a great story Sarah!! x
I found my RM in a weird way too! I had felt heat in my hands for a while and people seemed to feel better if I touched them but I didn't know what I was doing lol. At a Psychic fair locally I chatted to a young man who had a sign saying "Reiki" on his table. I asked him what Reiki was and he looked at me and said "you are a healer" and then went on to ask if my hands got hot for no reason and did total strangers tell me their life story at bus stops etc?? I answered yes to all! He then said that Reiki had found me but I now needed to find a RM to show me how to use it properly.
A few weeks later a booklet was posted through my letter box and to this day I do not know who it came from but it was full of therapy training courses and as I opened it the page fell open onto the Reiki section! There was a photo of a man smiling and the energy just zapped my third eye and I saw he was a RM. His first name was spelt like my maiden name, he wasn't too far away and his contact person was called Christine (my name!). I knew then that this was more than a coincidence and so I rang and 4 weeks later I was attending my first Reiki level! That was nearly 13 years ago now and I have never looked back. I am a RM myself now and I love hearing how students 'find' me.

meet first Rm at mbs event, she said she would attune me and my friend and myself at her home as i was showing interest in reiki. the second one was recommended by my friend but now she hasnt kept in touch tut tut.......was impressed with her when I got reiki 2 and reiki master from her but i think she should have kept in touch really. So I am hoping to find someone I can gel and discuss reiki in more depth.

I spent three years procrastinating and researching the history and lineages before choosing a teacher. I nearly gave up on the idea completely a few times, the information and opinions out there can be so confusing and I was very sceptical, but every time I abandoned the search it would always come up again in a book, a conversation with someone... I think it was talking to Giles on the reiki forums and getting what I felt was a good neutral recommendation from him is what helped me decide. Then once I had booked to learn, it just felt 'right' and everything went well.
I've had two lovely Reiki teachers...I don't use the term "Master". I don't really find it to be the best translation of "Sensei", and for me, it conflicts with Usui's advice to his students to "Be Humble". So I just prefer to say "Teacher" and leave it at that.
My first teacher came to be via the referral of a good friend who had been on her course. I was in poor health at the time and had enjoyed from the treatments that she'd given to me. It was a very quick course, done in a Western style. Two levels in one afternoon, in fact! Some of it was quite confusing, and it did feel a bit rushed, but I had a positive connection with my teacher and benefitted from it immensely.
As the years went by, I decided that I wanted to redo my Reiki training in a more traditional style, so I found a teacher who specialized in just that. It took a bit of research, but my patience paid off in the end. I learned so much, and it's really deepened my understanding of Reiki and enriched my practice in ways I never imagined to be possible.
I'd certainly encourage any potential student to do their research before choosing a teacher. Make sure that they practice and teach the style of Reiki which feels like the best approach for you. There's a lot on offer these days, and one can feel a bit overwhelmed with all the choices. Above all, use your intuition. That's your best guide for sure.
I spent a lot of years knowing that I should be travelling down the healing path but not following it up. Eventually, a very stressful time came along in my life and I was advised to take up a hobby such as massage by my GP to help relax. I followed his advice, and at that time, I started playing around with energy as I was practicing and there was lots of heat coming from my hands. Fortunately for me there was a Reiki teacher on the course and one thing led to another. I am now totally hooked on both massage and it's variations and needless to say Reiki. Fortunate enough now to have followed that path to becoming a Reiki teacher myself in January (still an infant).
My Reiki I teacher I found on the internet, and we had a good connection by e-mail, so I went ahead.
My Reiki II/III teacher was another story entirely...
My beloved kitty, Shamrock, was very ill. It was clear that conventional veterinary medicine wasn't working, so I asked a colleague at work about her vet. She recommended a holistic vet about an hour away. We went, and she helped my dear feline friend in her last hours, as well as helping the feline and human family left behind. Come to find out, she is a Reiki Master. We clicked easily and she has been a wonderful blessing in my life and in the lives of my kitties.
