When you call in your Higher Self, do you see it as above you descending down or within you, ?

Hi Star
Surrounding, protective, embracing, holding safe is how I envisage it.

Is "Higher Self" a part of Reiki? Or is it just something that some Reiki practitioners have borrowed from elsewhere? I mean, is it a generally accepted concept?
Hi Star99
L.O.L I bet if your higher self had arms and legs, it would have been rolling on the floor on its back waving its arms and legs in the air and laughing deliriously when you stated your intention to call it in. 🙂
We do not call in aspects of self, we go inward and embrace the fullness of self in order to be whole, perceiving aspects of self as separate from self, creates inner division and conflict in place of wholeness. 😉
I agree that 'calling in' one's Higher Self is an odd concept (to me!). I've never imagined it as being separate from myself - it's there all the time although I may have to remind myself of that sometimes...;)

Likewise, it seems an odd question. To me the Self is not something seperate, so not outside, inside or any particular place.
And to answer Crowan, no, it's not part of Reiki, though I suspect the question is in relation to energy healing, in terms of people 'calling in' the energies, or in some people's beliefs 'calling in' the spirits.

Thanks. Although 'calling in' the spirits is different in that (from the posts I've read here) a 'Higher Self' is a part of you in a way that spirits are not. (A 'Higher Self' is not part of shamanism, either.)
Slightly like a shadow, or I am a shadow of my higher self.. a bit like in Peter Pan.. sometimes I feel like we are sewn together and at others slightly ripped at the seams!
She makes me feel warm, comforted and safe. She is separate but within..

I don't think the concept of a 'higher self' is necessarily part of any practice or religion. It's part of the human condition, if anything.

In what way?

Thanks Caroline, sounds good to me 🙂

Paul, if it was rolling on the floor then you are saying it is definitely outside of me.
What I meant was, when you state ' i now ask/ call in my Higher Self, how do you see it?, are you saying it is in essence our Spirit/ Soul ?,

Hi Delighted, not sure I would see it as seperate, 🙂

No Star, it is definitely not outside of you, you higher self is that aspect of your consciousness which you get your intuition and inner guidance from.:)
What I meant was, when you state ' i now ask/ call in my Higher Self, how do you see it?, are you saying it is in essence our Spirit/ Soul ?,
I do not state 'I now ask/call in my higher self' for my higher self is always within my consciousness the same as all other aspects of my consciousness, you could say that our higher self, is our true essence, for it is the only constant aspect of our consciousness.
As for comprehending it, then that is something else, for I found it by going inward and accepting the fullness of self in an open and non-judgemental way, the anomaly is that our higher self encompasses everything, yet we find it within us, I went inward expecting things to get smaller, but I encountered the complete reverse. 😉

Self is not aspect of your consciousnss, It is beyond consciousness. Higher self is very common phrase these days...mostly wrongly interpretted, because it is not something that can be put in framework of what you already know. It is not intution ither, it is beyond knowing. IT is Unknowing, if anything...
Star a very good question-because people start using these terms and make another concept that suits them. Its easy to do that rather than dig deeper.
Star You ask how do you call in your higher self? When you pray to some power higher than yourself, you are calling on "higher Self". The peace one feels after prayer is not for any other reason but from a brief moment of surrender that cries out I can do nothing, know nothing, need your help...Neo spirituality has bought into higher self big time, because this notion saves most from surrendering. Then they can blissfully stay in this intellectual understanding that my higher self is alreday there. Means I am just fine the way I am. I don't have to be humble in the unknowing...I can keep pretending that I know but really there is no experience of it.
Concept around a higher self is not higher SELF at all. it is just your mind regurgitating what learnt as a spiritual understanding. Just another concept, another intellectual grasp of something intangible, Rather than setting out on a quest for higher self, people just talk abouit it refer to it as though it is something that can ever be known. It cannot be known, only dissolved into.
you only know your mind, what it knows, remembers, believes in etc etc - to call that a higher self is a folly. Then it is just another jolly ride that I am talking to my higher self, which in effect is only all learnt stuff since the moment of birth.
You are before you were born and will persist after the death, that is your higher self. beyond the point of arrival of consciousness or after departure of it. That what remains no matter what, is Higher self or SELF. Knowing that intellectually just doesn't do it. It has to become your living experience. But such is the spiritual climate these days, everyone is parroting on about higher self . Just a concept.
The way to invoke higher self is rememberance. Say of Jesus, dissolved into the Self, when you remember him, you are connecting with SELF, for SELF is one. Jesus trully knows who he happens to be, not just a conceptual gripping of the term. Doubt Jesus would know of this term at all. He Is That. Prayer and opening your heart in rememberance
