Hi guys,

I'm new to Reiki, I was attuned to Reiki 1 in April and haven't had a chance to work on anyone but me and my dog and I mostly do it to help ease my chronic migraines. I must admit I hadn't been practicing as much as I should have been and the detox process has been a bit harsh on me, which I knew was a possibility, but this past month I was soldering on as best as I could.

On one particularly bad morning this past week my migraines were giving me hell and my husband was grinding on every last nerve, so instead of napping with him I decided to lay there and do a self-treatment while he slept. I just left my hands where they lay on my body instead of doing the hand positions since my husband had me in a bit of a spooner sleeper hold but I figured any Reiki was better than none and it might help my day get better. About ten minutes into my self-treatment I found myself extremely relaxed, warm and while my eyes were closed my mind saw myself in a grassy wooded area and I'm pretty sure I saw my guide. She was an old Native American woman and she had her hands on my ears and a smile on her weathered face. Then I saw a bright purple light shoot out of my head and I felt really really calm. I know the crown chakra is associated with violet, but other than that I'm pretty stumped as to what all of it meant. I don't know how long I was there for because we don't have clocks in our bedroom but I slowly came out of the session feeling relaxed and almost like I came out of a deep sleep even though I definitely didn't fall asleep.

My family has some Native American in our ancestry, but as far as I'm aware my great great grandmother wouldn't be dressed in her tribal dress, but in period Canadian/American garb as she married a Canadian in the late 1800s, so I don't know if my guide is family, or who she is. Does it mean anything? Is it normal for someone as inexperienced as me to randomly have such a vivid experience especially during a self-treatment?

Any insight or experience would be greatly appreciated! My husband thinks anything to help my migraines is great but isn't completely sold on the whole Reiki thing yet so I haven't told him about what happened and I'm just BURSTING to tell someone! 😀

Hi Theresa .

There are no set rules to what one can experience . Your inexperience at present does not reflect the sum of who you are and all that will contain energetically speaking .

It sound like you made a wonderful connection .

Hi there Theresa  Welcome to Healthypages 🙂

What a lovely and interesting experience for you! I have little knowledge of Reiki so cannot comment from that perspective except to say that I believe it opens one up to giving and receiving of energies. How connections are made varies enormously from person to person and to have seen a possible ancestor or gude is special and exciting.

Why not ask who this person is when you are next in a meditative state? Ask the usual - who? what? why? when? where? and how? You might receive some exciting/special/wonderful answers - Oh, and I always greet them with Love.

Love and Light

I'm so excited for you! This seems like a wonderful experience you have reached through a form of mediation whilst healing yourself!

It sounds like you had a very wonderful experience.

What you experienced is an entirely normal part of Reiki. There are many guides available to a person and each one who comes, comes for a purpose. We may see and/or feel their presence.

The lady who you saw will be a spirit guide, there to help and guide you to using Reiki.

The violet light that you saw was the Reiki energy clearing a blockage. I've experienced similar when working on a client, I sensed a block and could see the Reiki energy building up behind it before it punched through and cleared whatever muck was there.

How was your migraine after the experience?

I would suggest you do daily if not twice daily reiki treatments on yourself, ask for your guide to come forward again and ask her name and ask her anything else you would like to know. Treat her as you would a dear friend.

Love & light

Seeing your guides

After reading your post, I was moved to watery eyes. I am a 69yr old male who has also had similar experiences. My guides are one of each. A beautiful female Spirit and a rather amusing but purposeful male. The lady has let me see her twice the male, once.

However, there are at least " Teens " of others who I have seen. They take me for who I am and I try to be a pleasant person for them.

Most people on here who have some accumulated experiences will say, no one ever stops learning. Just enjoy the journey.:)
