Hi There,

This is an interesting thread and as a reiki master and teacher I have very rarely seen this sort of thing. However on one occasion the student who had just had the attunement was heavily into the occult. I had asked everyone to remove Wiccan symbols but she had secretly kept hers on. Her whole family were involved in the occult.

I had her come to my clinic on several occasions for free treatment and eventually found the link to Wiccan. I don't believe that the occult and Reiki go together and this is a recipe for disaster. If one reads in the Bible it says that we should avoid the occult. Since Reiki is from God the two things are incompatible.

x Christine

Hi Christine

I don't want to get into an argument here about which God gave us Reiki (a clue: Usui Sensei was a Tendai Buddhist), but have you read Christopher Penczak's "The Magick of Reiki"?

Reiki and religion

Hi Trina

My Reiki Master, who is a devout Catholic and has a Benedictine monk as his guide, won't mention his ministry at his church because he fears the reaction of the priest. I think this is a real shame. The Quaker Meeting House in the city has hosted Reiki shares in the past: they actively welcome all seekers after truth and encourage healing and healers. What a contrast!

To clarify my previous post, I had a deeply profound spiritual experience when I received my first attunement, and I am convinced that Our Lord gave me Reiki. That doesn't mean I am exclusively Christian: I actively seek after truth wherever it is found, and Reiki has much in common with most religions. However, one thing Reiki is not is a religion!

There is a website in America dedicated to Christian Reiki, and I have a book explaining how one American church uses Reiki in its ministry. Reiki is a gift of god, whichever god you believe in doesn't matter: it is the Universe in its generosity which enables us to use Reiki.

Hope this helps

More Reiki and Religion

However on one occasion the student who had just had the attunement was heavily into the occult. I had asked everyone to remove Wiccan symbols but she had secretly kept hers on. Her whole family were involved in the occult.

I had her come to my clinic on several occasions for free treatment and eventually found the link to Wiccan. I don't believe that the occult and Reiki go together and this is a recipe for disaster. If one reads in the Bible it says that we should avoid the occult. Since Reiki is from God the two things are incompatible.

I don't want to start a theological argument either, or divert the discussion thread away from Trina's original question, but I must say that I find the above to be an extremely prejudiced viewpoint. In my own teaching practice, I've had the honour to work with many people from a variety of faiths: Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, members of African Diaspora religious traditions such as Vodou and Santeria, Wiccans, Druids and other Pagans. I have never seen the teachings of Usui Sensei to be incompatible with any particular spiritual viewpoint, and have been personally enriched from my many encounters with students from various faiths. As a Reiki teacher, I would consider it unethical not to be supportive of the spiritual beliefs of my students, or worse, to be openly antagonistic towards their religion, whatever that may be.

Christine, I suggest that you do a bit of reading on Wicca and Paganism; these are peaceful faiths which revere nature, honour both the masculine and feminine qualities of God, and basically promote the idea that people should do as they will so long as it doesn't cause harm to others. You're entitled to disagree with their beliefs, but it might at least be a good idea to familiarise yourself first with what they are.

Christine, I hope that in your advertising, you take care to present yourself as a teacher of Christian Reiki, and make it clear to potential students your feelings about alternative religions. I would hate to be a Wiccan or Pagan student, and embark on a Reiki course expecting a healing, compassionate and supportive environment, only to find misundertanding of, or hostility towards, my personal spiritual beliefs.

Hi Christine,

I don't believe that the occult and Reiki go together and this is a recipe for disaster. If one reads in the Bible it says that we should avoid the occult. Since Reiki is from God the two things are incompatible.

An interesting statement to make and, IMHO, one that goes agaist what Reiki is about and what Christianity is about and flies in the face of all Wiccan Reiki practitioners.

It is unfortunate that many churches teach that some things are "occult" and that therefore they must be something bad.

The source of Reiki is whatever the source is for each individual. For you it's God, for me it's not God.

So apparently the Bible says to avoid the occult, but hang on... doesn't it also say that you should respect and care unconditionally for all other people or do those parts not count? Perhaps the Bible is being misinterpreted here. Perhaps it really means that you should follow the teaching of the bible and not the teachings of other religions and beliefs because all that is required is what is in the bible. That doesn't mean that one should admonish people of other religions.

Now... back to trinabeanbag's question. 😉

It isn't that unusual to experience different sensations when giving Reiki treatments. Some people sense more than others and these sensations can be anything from a mild warmth in the hands to almost feeling as if you are going to faint. Of course you also have to bear in mind the situation you were in at the time, your first Reiki treatment, in front of other people, a little nervous, having just been attuned etc. all factors that could make you feel a little off-colour. 😉

I'm just reading an interesting book at the minute by Tadao Yamaguchi called "Light on Reiki" (published 2007) which mentions (amongst other things) the different sensations that we experience as part of Byosen and how these relate to the different conditions of the client/patient.

Love and Reiki Hugs

My teacher told me not to attempt any healing of others till my 21 days are over because of the reaction I had,
I got a few crystals though, Rose Quartx Malacite and Azurite, The Azurite is really powefull, I feel all manner of thing when I am holding it and strangley enough I felt very spiritual using that , strange eh!!!!

I'm not one for rules but when I received my 1st attunement back in the mists of time I remember it as being a very powerful experience, shared with about 15 other women. It was very moving and the energy felt amazing. However we were told to keep self treating ourselves for a period of I think, 2 weeks until we had cleared and balanced ourselves before treating others. I felt a bit nauseous that evening but I could also sense a presence of spirit in my house. During that period of self treatment there were a lot of discoveries and certainly for me at any rate that time was important. I don't think I would have felt ready to treat someone else immediately after an attunement especially if they were newly attuned too. I agree there was probably just too much stuff kicking about for you to handle (or your body!) With regard to protecting oneself, after performing the symbols and words I just add "Christ light bless and surround and protect me and client" silently. I also ask Ariel to help bring the energy in sometimes. This works really well for me although I practice hindu and buddhist meditations too as I believe love has no bounds or boundaries. I have never felt affected adversely when treating others but my partner who is finely tuned would just look at me when I 've come home and would feel sick/headachey (even if he didn't know I'd been treating)That is why I incorporated the protection element and it seems to work for him. You just have to find what works for you.
love and light Frayja
