If anyone feels like they are comfortable divulging; do you actually make money doing just "Reiki"? Not in combination with massage or chiropractic work. Just Reiki? Not teaching. Just Reiki?

I've worked in a few natural therapy centres where reiki was available. The therapists who offered it did other therapies too.

I have a reiki master friend who also offers hot stones and reflexology, and she may see 5 or 6 clients for reiki during a week. She offers attunements twice a year, and generally works with 2 'students', although for the past 3 years she has had to cancel the autumn class as no one signed up.

She admits openly that she cannot live on her therapy work income, so she has a Personal Care job too, which she does 5 days a week, which pays her around £250 per week. Therapy work is unpredictable - she charges £25 per session - and is usually in the centre for around 10 hours a week.

Do you mean "Reiki" as a business practice limited to providing hands-on treatments and/or providing workshop/classes, or do you mean "reiki" as a process of (any) energy-flow (or work) that generates a livable (or greater) wage?

No. If that was my only option and I needed the income to live on I would be in dire straits.

Does anyone in any single practice - Reiki or anything else? I don't know of anyone who manages it.

Reiki, meaning...someone comes to you and receives a reiki treatment for fibromyalgia pain, pays you and leaves. Someone has cancer and is reciving chemo and comes for sessions to piggy back conventional medical care.

Some one has tried everything else and comes to you as a last resort to help with back pain or arthritis pain.

Some one has never ending emotional difficulties and medication doesn't help. You just reiki them. Not even touch them.

Does anyone do this? And derive an income from it?

No teaching, work shops, massage or chiropractic. Just Reiki.

Just reiki.

I don't think you could make enough to live on by just providing Reiki, like most Alternative/Complementary therapies I think you need to have a list of different therapies available to a prospective client to increase the potential for clients and then getting enough of a client base to have a regular income. Generally people come for a specific reason and have a set of treatments and may not return for some time or even at all. This could leave you with periods where no clients are coming to you at all and you still have bills to pay.

I provide Reiki as a hobby job, I just don't have enough clients and returning clients to make enough to pay the bills. I wish I did as I love it. I will be teaching Reiki in September which will give me a little extra income, but how many people will approach me for attunements isn't predictable either. So there will undoubtedly be large gaps between classes where no money is coming in.

Doesn't sound positive, but its about finding a balance between providing Reiki to clients and earning a living elsewhere to keep the bills paid.

I'd agree with the others, you're very unlikely to make a living from just giving reiki treatments. A lot of people who've heard of Reiki tend to end up getting attuned themselves so they don't want to pay for treatments (though they do like Reiki Shares), and those who don't know what Reiki is, tend to discover it when it's used as part of another treatment they do know about, or they're the sort of person who looks at you sideways as if you're completely bonkers. 😉

All Love and Reiki Hugs

Well OK...thank you all for your honesty. I originally wanted to learn reiki to calm and help any permanent makeup clients that I had that didn't numb.

That is working and I think that is what it will be. I'm getting the feeling that most if the money around reiki is passed between practitioners and: teachers, organizations, book writers and sellers.

I don't see the money passing between client's and practitioners? Unless the practitioner has a hands on kind of business and reiki makes them better at what they do and so enhances their business?

This whole William Rand's law of attraction, invision 10 clients a week as a starting point is not even realistic for an end goal. But he SELLS a lot of stuff. Everybody is selling a lot of stuff (books, manuals, association memberships, training, attunements, tee shirts, coffee cups, posters). How many people are actually selling the "product" (Reiki).

I have noticed several amazing people on line giving attunements for free, some healing for free, some volunteer healing groups. These people all do something else for a living.

So I am back to my thread "charging money for Reiki?".

I saw one free attunement that really spoke to me but the agreement was that you could not charge when you used this energy/conection/symbol. So I saved it for examination for another day. The person that received this symbol asked that it not be dirtied by money. But a donation could be received.

To take money for connecting to the source somehow offends me. Using that connection to calm or relieve pain for a client while I am doing some other service works for me. It's kind of like ministers being paid to do Gods work. I kind of think we should all do God's/ the source's/Mother Earth's work for free. But alas we must eat and put roofs over our heads and shots for our dogs.

With all that being said...I do have a baby website now for Reiki/energy healing for a charge. And have listed on several directories. So if the universe approves and sends clients...we shall see?

I must wonder how much of a difference there is between God's Work and Life Coaching...

The idea that money for connecting to the source somehow offends me. Using that connection to calm or relive pain for a client while I am doing some other service works for me.

Decades ago, a young college professor began to study the mythological stories from cultures around the world. In time, he gathered enough material to begin lecturing about the various mythologies he studied, and eventually he produced many books as a result of his research.

Joseph Campbell's book, Hero With A Thousand Faces, became the Bible of many writers for well over 20 years, and most every theory of story can be traced to it even today.

Campbell discovered many things about stories that were previously unknown. Stories, while quite entertaining, also served other functions much less obvious to the audience. Stories not only allowed an audience to experience emotions of sadness, joy, and excitement in ways outside of their normal life, but stories also served to inspire creativity and hope to each person receiving them.

Stories also served to teach the audience a lesson of some sort that, intentionally or not, helped them realize something new about their lives.

Ancient cultures told stories of their heroes who suffered greatly but in the end brought peace and prosperity to their people. Those stories served to inspire the younger generations to act like the hero, thus helping to make their life and the lives of those around them, better.

Shakespeare, while not included in the studies of Campbell, understood the power of story. Through his comedies and tragedies, he subtly inspired the people in the audience to change for the better by making them more aware of the human condition (much less the failings of the aristocracy).

Hawayo Takata told a very motivational story of Reiki ( What is the History of Reiki? ) that was at first believed to be perfectly true, and as a result of this story, a powerful healing energy awakened from within thousands of people. Less than two decades later the historical details of the story was revealed to be untrue -- but in spite of its fiction, the healing energy continued to grow and help others.

While the common belief at this time is that Reiki is best practiced in-person through hands-on application, distance Reiki healing is oftentimes erroneously limited to functioning under the same limitations.

But Reiki is a healing energy that continues to expand and grow, and it is an energy not limited to the projections of the way we choose perceive reality.

Words, when chosen in the right way, can serve to awaken that healing energy within others as Takata did by providing her story of Reiki.

You, dear Stephanie, not only have a wonderful way with words, but your healing reiki charisma radiates quite brightly through them -- and that's something that doesn't happen with everyone. Sometimes words are simply words that convey a persons frame of mind, but, as evidenced by the reaction of others here to your posts, your words have a way of touching the hearts of others.

Collecting your words, your stories, into a book may be one way that you can do God's Work and get something in return that helps pay the rent and put food on the table... Reiki energy flows quite strongly through your words, so that undeniable element of healing would be present, and the time and labor of putting everything together into a book (well, at the very least an e-Book) may serve to ground some of those higher energies into this earth-plane of reality well enough to justify the cost someone would pay for it.

I would like to recommend a book to you by Christopher Vogler, The Writers Journey: Mythic Structure for Writers, 3rd Edition: Christopher Vogler, Michele Montez: 9781932907360: Amazon.com: Books . His book is based on Joseph Campbell's theory of story. I've rented it from the library and worked through it. It's a very good resource for learning how to write story.

Thank you so much. Wow. Because of your encouragement once before in this area, I now actually have an outline 🙂 for this book.

It is a collection of stories like you suggested. With a story starting in the beginning, many stories in the middle and the first story finishing at the end. All of the stories are intertwined with the journey of my new daughter and I.

Mother/daugher journey....Two strangers that meet in their darkness and heal each other.

I have contacted Hay House and talked to them about it. It's difficult to have the moxie to do this. My x husband said I clanged when I walked (they were brass). So I need to draw on that image when I am feeling small 🙂

It's kind of hard to focus on it and study at the same time. Well that's not entirely true. It was my daughter's birthday on the 30th. It's been 3 birthdays now since she died. And all the earth school beliefs I have, don't take away the pain, at night when I am alone, in the dark.

I kind of sink away on holidays and special day anniversaries. Writing would be a great therapy at those times.

I will get the book you suggest and again thank you for your encouragement.
