Hi,
Just wanted to add a word about distant attunements. A distant attunement does work, however Reiki training is about more than simply an attunement. A good course will provide you with so much guidance about how to use this new skill and how it will change your life.
For me there is no substitute to being taught in person - the energy of the physical presence of a master cannot be underestimated.

Kind regards,
Christina

I have a great friend who does distant attunements. I don't know whether he charges or not. I have a A Share group tomorrow, and will ask him if you like. However, I totally agree with Christina. I believe that Reiki should be taught. I teach Reiki 2 over 8 hours, and don't issue a certificate until I am sure that the student is competant. After all, it is Practitioner level, and as far as I am concerned, it is my duty to ensure my students are competant to work with the general public.

Thank you both for your replies,Im beginging to think that perhaps my Reiki 1 attunement was lacking something,we were attuned and that was it really,Gilli that would be great if you could ask your friend about this.

Well while I share your concern about your Reiki 1 attunement, I must ask what you have been doing to develop your own Reiki connection and practice since your attunement? I say this because I didn't have any contact with my Reiki master between levels 1 and 2, but I spent the intervening 6 or so months reading, reading, reading: self-healing every single night: meditating: exploring: generally immersing myself in Reiki until I felt I was ready to move on.

No Reiki teacher is ever going to do your own development for you, and sometimes (but not in this case, I'm sure) I am concerned that students seem to expect that that should happen. I have no problem with being hands-off as a teacher for this reason. If my students want me to be hands-on then I can be, but I can't do their self-healing for them!

I do not always do my self healing,I was not feeling anything like I used to do when I first did self treatments,Chris when you say reading,do you have any recommendations?, I suppose I am not doing my self part, but I now feel that my REIKI 1 attunement was done quite quickly and then we were being told of REIKI 2 been available at a very expensive price,I do feel perhaps this person was in it for the money.

I did R1and 2 years ago, and never practised, never did the self work. I signed up with Reiki Evolution to do R2 again, (by distance), and I have to say it's been a revelation. While there is no doubt I'm putting more in this time, I'm also getting much more back from Taggart.

I think you will find opinion is divided among the Reiki community with regards to distant atttunements. I really do not think distance learning is a good way to learn Reiki. It also goes against the Japanese tradition of Reiki teaching. I really believe you need the added value of attending a good Reiki course to get the most from Reiki. The other factor is the NOS and registration process. Unless this has been changed since my time working on the NOS, it is a requirement for registration that the Reiki practitioner is attuned in person. Distant attunements are not acceptable for NOS registration. I know that registration is a voluntary process at the moment, but it may change in the future.

OK then the first thing to say is to do your self-healing. Make a commitment to yourself (and to the Reiki) to do it every evening, before you go to sleep, for the next 21 days. I can't stress this highly enough. Someone said on this forum, if you are a car and Reiki is the fuel, then self-healing is the key.

Remember that you don't have to feel anything for the Reiki to be working. Part of the development process is to learn to trust the Reiki. It will work regardless of what you are feeling.

As for recommendations, well I read anything and everything about Reiki. My favourite Reiki books are Diane Stein's Essential Reiki, and the Magick of Reiki by Christopher Penczak. You will get other recommendations from people who are more traditional, but my preferred method is to read everything and go with what resonates with me. I have about 20 different Reiki books and am always on the lookout for more!

Just a comment on distant attunements while I'm here. I'm sceptical about them, and the comment on the NOS requiring attunements to be done in person is still valid. However, I have had two: one Celtic Reiki and one Crystal Reiki, and both times I had unexpected and divine experiences. I don't doubt the attunements worked. However, I prefer a hands-on attunement. Taggart King's Reiki Evolution is very good, if a little more traditional than what I do, but I do use his meditation CD and materials from time to time.

Don't be too quick to blame someone else. Perhaps it's part of our culture to do so, and our culture tends not to stress our personal responsibility while exaggerating blame. Be committed to Reiki, see where it gets you, and then come back and tell us it was someone else's fault that it didn't work!
