Just over the past two months, i have been having problems switching my mind off, without the aid of prescriptive medicine. I have been having problems switching my mind off, so it is ready for bed. Sometimes it keeps me awake till the alarm goes off.
I have tried reiki, and deep breathing, but it gets to a stage you get frustrated that your not sleeping. Which hand in hand does not make the problem easier.
Does anyone have any ideas of how to switch off, and fall asleep naturally.
RE: Switch off and Sleep.
Hot chocolate and relaxing music always sends me off. Try that for tonight.
Have you tried EFT? I know I keep going on about it, and some will think, "Oh, he's off again" but it really does seem to work on issues that go round and round in our minds. Especially emotive issues, but not exclusively.

RE: Switch off and Sleep.
Hi,
One thing you could do is to find a local hypnotherapist and get him/her to teach you the Dave Ellman induction.
It's the fastest reliable way to help anyone go into a trance and it's very easily learned so you can do it yourself - and when you're in a nice trance, it should be easy to slip off into a nice sleep.
One method I use with my son is to suggest to him to pay attention to his toes and as he pays them really close attention, notice how they relax and go to sleep. Then gradually move up the body repeating the attention, noticing the relaxation and then having the body part go to sleep. Include the internal organs too! The final part to pay attention to is your mind, which you then allow to relax and go to sleep. I haven't tried it on myself, but maybe you could get a partner to help you. If you can really pay attention to the parts of the body, the other thoughts will go away.
Finally, of course, I agree with Steve, EFT would be an excellent method too
All the best
Sleep well

RE: Switch off and Sleep.
I have tried EFT, it worked with yourself Jonathan, but this time round it doesn't seem to help.
RE: Switch off and Sleep.
I had cranio-sacral massage today, and the lady picked up on my throid, so i am going to get this checked out, and see if this is the answer why i cannot drift off naturally.

Hi
You said hat EFT worked with Jonathan. As he is offline at present, may Isee if I can help? What did you use a set up statement when it worked. What happened afterwards that made you think it doesn't work now? And what statements have you used for it, this time round?
Hugs
Steve
RE: Switch off and Sleep.
To be honest with you, I do not know the answer to your question. How it worked with Jonathan, and it does not work now.
RE: Switch off and Sleep.
Try saying, "even though I am (insert how you feel, eg frustrated/annoyed etc) and I can't turn switch off enough to get some sleep, I deeply and completely accept myself" (3 times), whilst tapping on the karate chop point of your hand. And then tap approximately 7 times on the eyebrow, side of eye, under eye, under nose, chin, collarbone, under arm whilst saying how you feel (eg frsutrated/annoyed I can't switch off) and then take a deep breath.
Get that feeling down to zero and you'll feel much better and be able to sleep.
I'll be back later to see how you get on.

Hi,
I've had some partial successes with EFT and hypnosis for thyroid problems, so if that's the case, as long as the doc is looking after it, just let me know. I also have a technique to help people with sleep, which I'll explain now.
We all have our routines before we go to bed. Some of us take off our make-up, clothes, contact lenses, or maybe we take off our glasses and put by the bedside, or perhaps we take off our slippers and leave them by the bed. So, as well as all the good suggestions above, you can either visualise the following or tap on all the EFT points as you think about it:
You've taken off everything you need to take off before going to bed and finally just before your head hits the pillow, you choose to take off all thoughts of the daytime and put them in a box by the bed, perhaps on your bedside table. You can close the lid of the box and keep the thoughts there safely while you sleep until the alarm goes off, when you can open the box and put your thoughts in your head again, put your slippers/glasses/gown/makeup/clothes on and get ready for the day.
Try this every night for a couple of weeks and see what happens

Hi Spiritual,
There are various self help and exploritory methods you can use to help with switching the mind off. Identifying the issues that have brought about these thoughts might also apply. If you are interested to know more you can contact me.

Hello Spiritualhappiness
How did you get on with Steve's EFT suggestions last night?
You said that you had tried EFT for something and it worked, but that it wasn't helping your for sleep. EFT can be applied to just about anything but it's important to be really specific about what you're feeling.
If you have trouble switching your mind off in the evenings, think about what it on your mind and tap on that. eg. "Even though I can't stop worrying about xyz that happened at work today.." etc. If you can create a peaceful mind before you try to go to sleep you will have much more success.
Also if you can't sleep, or wake up and can't drop off again try simply tapping on "Even though I can't sleep..etc" Do this why you're lying down in bed, and after a few rounds you may find you're already asleep!
Good luck

You could try the 4-way breathing exercise - I have included the shortcut.
