It's things like this that knock hypnotherapy (and indeed any complementary therapy) down in public perception.

I've never heard of any of the organisations that accredited the cat, neither are any of them members of the UKCHO which is one of two umbrella organisations that oversee the reputable hypnotherapy organisations. I would suspect the tv presenter who instigated this either looked specifically for such organisations, or failed to mention the extensive list of professional hypnotherapy organisations that would not have accepted the made up qualifications.

Unfortunately in CAM, it seems that new organisations spring up all the time. I've seen a few that have sprung up in hypnotherapy, reiki and massage to accredit the founder members own courses which begs the question why did they need to do that if their courses are any good? (in fact, I don't know if it's still the same now but I remember seeing hundreds of DVDs for sale on Ebay that claimed you received Reiki attunements from the DVD and came complete with Diplomas and membership of alleged professional organisations).

Hi B

Totally agree with you. As for Reiki and ebay that's certainly outrageous. I certainly wouldn't allow a Reiki person a give me a treatment with such a qualification (if that is what it's called).

Yes it does give CAM and hypno a bad name, that's one reason I created this thread. Another reason is for my silly pixie amusement 😉 And a more serious reason to highlight the fact we all should be involved (one way or another) to promote professionalism.

Best Wishes

Many years ago when banks were throwing credit cards at you, I registered a questionnaire in my dogs name and a few weeks later a fairly well known credit card company wrote to him telling him he has been approved for a credit card and was guaranteed acceptance. It was really tempting to take the card, spend it to it's limit and then take him along to county court when they try to collect the money from him!
