Good or Bad??

I have been seeing a Chiropractor for a couple of years now and after treatment am always tender for a few days after and form a strong bond with my ice pack but then everything goes back to be good again. However, I have recently read an article in which they say that Chiroprctors can do more long term damage than good.

Does anyone know anything about this?

I think my first question would be this: Why would you need to go for two years?! Should you not have had an improvement by now du think? Can't say whether they are good or bad, but would have thought it must be costing you a lot of money and maybe somebody else can help you?

That would be my first question too, especially at your age, as you are still a babe! 😉

Do they just manipulate or do they do any other work i.e. articulation, stretching, soft tissue work, etc?[&:]

Also, have they given you postural, occupational, advice & most importantly - stretches to do to maintain mobility, so you can overcome the problem & minimise treatments required. 😉

I am very interested in the article you mention. Where did you find it & is it on line anywhere? 😮

I aught to check it out. It may be the orthodox medics scaremongering or there may be something to it. Certainly chiropractors tend to treat more often & historically osteopaths have been more cautious. [:-]

Hi ya,

Well, I've been going to a chiropractor regularly for 4 years after a horsie riding accident....yes there has been improvement (HUGE in-fact), but I go to ensure longer-term problems do not occur and to abait existing ones. Once you have an injury, it seldom goes away 100% but much can be done to make it copeable and manageable.

With chiropractic therapy I have found that you must also do as much for your body in-between sessions as the session itself! Stretching, pilates, yoga, exercise etc....for example. Thinking you can just go for your 30 minute session and all your problems will be solved is not a realistic view, which sadly many people are under the opinion of. Everyone wants a quick and easy solution to things now-a-days......

Always checking the reputation of your chosen chiropractor would be advisable - yes you do ache afterwards for a couple of days and yes if your chiropractor is rubbish then more damage than good could be done. This is where learing what sort of therapy they are qualified in doing and what alternative therapies they are also adept in is a good idea.

Anahata's expressed some really interesting points though. What other treatment can they offer you in conjunction? - ultrasound, acupressure etc....
