That's like asking how long is a piece of string.

One of the things you will find is that the costof oil varies greatly between suppliers , as does the quality.
Good suppliers are : quinessence, fragrant earth , absolute aromas, materia aromatica, shirley price but this is not an exhaustive list ( I'm sure others have their favourite suppliers) and each of them has differnt prices. - Put these names into google and you will find there website addresses.

One thing you will learn on your course is about adulteration so it really pays to buy from a reputable supplier who will have done their best on your behalf to give you a good quality therapeutic oil.

I suggest you buy something like lavender from each supplier as you need it, and you will use lavender most I would guess ( I know I do), and do some sniffing to find the one you like the best.
You Don't need to buy all your oils at once - buy them as you need them and learn about them , that way you get to know their individual qualities.

Oh and enjoy - this has been one of the most fulfilling therapies I have learned from a purely self help point of view.

I bought my oils from Amphora Aromatics, and have always been pleased with oils. Their prices are very reasonable as you have to place an order over £50 and as far as I'm aware their reputation is good as they supply to NHS. I'm sure my whole kit 40 oils + some carriers cost under £100 and that included a few absolutes.

ITEC also produces their own set of oils in a neat carry case. It includes 20 oils (10mls) and 3 carriers, but costs £99.50. Ellisons also have a professional set in a carry case and includes 21 (8ml) oils with 3 carriers. It also has 10 empty bottles/spaces so you can add to your collection. Again this is £99.50

thanks for the advice. i have been chekcing the website could you tell me what you click on to get the set that you had bought. Thanks can't wait to my course in september. I will be doing the itec course i have already done a massage and sports massage course.

I did ITEC and we needed 40 oils. They probably cost me over £200, maybe more. I would only use Absolute Aromas or Fragrant Earth now. I have tried all the others and there really is no comparison.

A lot of therapists (including those at our Centre) balk at the cost, but you get what you pay for and the difference is amazing. You also use less drops. Sorry but I am a bit of a purist! I want to know that there is absolutely no adulteration.

I have tried lots and know what I like best.:D

When you open the Absolute Aroma oils (especially the citrus ones) it is like peeling a piece of fresh fruit. Divine......

In my humble opinion it would be better for you to get 6 top grade essential oils than to buy 40 not so good ones. Only buy the best you can afford and gradually build up your selection. You will find that many of the oils 'double up' on thier uses and the really expensive ones (Rose Otto, Neroli, Melissa) can be replaced by a cheaper oil (not in quality) that does the same or similar job. To buy a really good 'kit' will cost in the region of about £300-£500 and you might not use or like all the oils. Chose the ones you really like and go from there.

I wouldn't rush to buy your oils, you don't have to use them all straight away and many colleges have some for you to use. You might also like to get together with some other students, then you could buy a few each. It can be a very expensive purchase when you are a student (especially when their shelf life is limited), but Candie is right that when you are working professionally, it is important to have the best. Although my original oils were from Amphora, I now use several different suppliers including Tisserand, Absolute Aromas, Cotswold and Amphora.

A good idea is to buy one oil per week and really get to know it........learn all about it. I found the easiest way for it to sink in was to research it and type it up.

Tree-Harvest do a special student pack.........that is an alder wood box with 30 oils. Their oils are top quality and a lot of colleges use them. I've been using them for 4 years now and have compared them with a lot of different oils...........in fact when I was training we had a session of comparing different oils and these came out tops every time.

I wouldn't rush into them...........just buy what you need for now and add to your collection later on.
