RE: Good Aromatherapy Book

A good student textbook which is a slightly more entertaining read the L. Tucker is Aromatherapy, Therapy Basics by Helen McGuinness. ISBN 0-340-87680-8. This is one of the only books that I have seen that lists Notes and also goes into what blends well with what.

Hope that helps

Hi Chid

Have pmd you.

Thank you Angelfish - could you tell me whether the Louise Tucker book was helpful as some of the reviews I have read have said that the book has a lot of contradictions in it.

Also has anybody got The essential blending guide by Rosemary Caddy and if so what do they think of it.

Thank you

RE: Good Aromatherapy Book

Are you studying Aromatherapy? If you are it is best to ask the college which book they use for the basis of the course. I know that ITEC do weigh quite heavily on Louise Tucker and many of the exam questions are taken straight from the book. Yes there are errors in it, but there are in many books.

The Rosemary Caddy guides are also useful as a quick reference. I bought them, but have never really found a need for them.

Take a look at Wanda Sellar's Directory of Essential Oils - its very useful and has a nice chart in it showing what blends with what oil.

Good luck with your blending and I think do your own thing as well - if you like your blend chances are others will too.

If you're interested in the Rosemary Caddy books, I'd get the essential oil one, but not bother with the blending one. I have it, but I prefer to make my own blends. I do like her blending calculator software though - you can put in your own blends, and get a picture of the chemical make up of your blend.

I swear by Julia Lawless's Encyclopaedia of Essential Oils, and Shirley Price's Practical Aromatherapy has top, middle and bottom note info.

Hope that helps.

Hi Kumari

I found the Complete Guide to Aromatherapy by Salvatore Battaglia incredibly useful during my studies and even now.

Happy reading 🙂
