Hi Everyone,
I was just wondering if anybody has much experience with sellecting essential oils according to ayurvedic dosha. I have been reading about ayurdeda aot lately and it looks like a good way of sellecting oils while covering every aspect of a persons wellbeing.
Does anyone know of a website which gives details of which essential oils are best for each dosha.
Look forward to your replies as this forum is always so helpful.

RE: ayurveda
Hiya
I am currently reading 'Perfect Health' by Deepak and am finding it really interesting. Not sure if it has any oil detail but the overall idea of the 'science' is brilliant. Can't wait to learn more!
I found a website - [link= http://www.ayurbalance.com ]ayurbalance.com[/link] which has some good info, but again, not sure if there is any oil info on.
Good luck tho!
RE: ayurveda
Hi Amanda
Vicky Pitman has written about Ayurveda and I know she is also an aromatherapist - so she may have merged disciplines. I'll look up some notes as I went to a lecture she gave several years ago at the IFA.

RE: ayurveda
HI,
Thanks for the replies. I have come across ayurbalance and am still siffting through. What I really want is a list or table which shows which dosha is balanced by which oil, eg Pitta - ?????Vata - ????? Will keep looking.
Thanks Binah, would be grateful if you could look out your notes. I will do Google search on Vicky Pitman.
Thanks again
Amanda

Check out the website: [link= http://www.theseedinstitute.co.uk ]www.theseedinstitute.co.uk[/link] - they do a lot of Aromatherapy & Ayurveda Courses.
RE: ayurveda
[link= http://www.subtleenergies.com.au ]www.subtleenergies.com.au[/link] yes, it is in Australia, and yes it is a very uninformative website, but it gives you contact details for the aurthor of The Magic of Ayurveda Aromatherapy The book covers which standard essential oils for which dosha and also covers the Indian oils and what dosha they relate to. The book also goes on about her journey through life to get to writing the book, which doesn't need to be there, but the information is good. Her range of essential oils from India is great - not anything like the usual oils and since the following blurbs says they're available to spas all over the globe, if you contact them they might be able to tell you a distributor/stockist/where to get the book. I'll have a look at the book again and see if there is a really basic chart or something of oils/dosha.

Melanie Sachs, author of Ayurvedic Beauty Care and an absolute font of knowledge on ayurveda in a spa setting, has endorsed the Primavera oil blends, so they can't be too bad, might give you an idea of a starting point.
Kapha: Orange, Bergamot, Rosemary, Juniper Berry
Pitta: Lemon, Bergamot, Frankincense
Vata: Rosewood, rose geranium, rose
Melanie Sachs also has a range of blends on her website [link= http://www.diamondwayayurveda.com ]www.diamondwayayurveda.com[/link]but they don't say what's in each blend. I do know their Anise foot lotion is Aniseed (not star anise)in coconut and smells like licorice allsorts 🙂 but it's only used on the feet, and it's very good for pitta - the aniseed is heating, but it is drawing the heat down to the feet and out of the body and is used with the cooling coconut. Very good used on the feet for red eyes (and it's used in theis PediKarma foot routine, with the 3 metal bowl)
RE: ayurveda
HI,
Thanks for the information Cola it's really usesful. Over the last couple of days I have been looking at the characteristics of different essential oils and trying to match them to the three doshas. From the few on your last message it looks as though I am along the right lines as the only one I couldn't decide on was Frankinsence, all the others are just where I had put them. Great confidense booster to know I've got something right.
Thanks
Amandas
RE: ayurveda
Subtle Energies have finally got their website going properly [link= http://www.subtleenergies.com.au/ayurvedaaroma.html ]http://www.subtleenergies.com.au/ayurvedaaroma.html[/link]haslots of info on ayurvedic oils and their properties, not so much on the standard essential oils. (dosha specifics against the oils such as " v- k- " means reduces vata, reduces kapha, etc)
RE: ayurveda
Thanks for the link it is just what I've been looking for, for some time.
