Hi,

I wondered if you had any plans/spells or rituals for this time. I am not a wicca, not sure I know what this entails 🙂 but I love to try a spell or too and have invited a few friends around to eat pumpkin, light candles and do a few spells and rituals for the new year and wondered if there was anything I could add? Sorry if you don't think I'm taking seriously, I haven't much knowledge about it and just like the idea of working with nature etc

Thanks,

Jo

The purpose of Samhain/Halloween/Wicca new year (for me) is about reflecting on the past year, giving thanks for your acheivements and reviewing some of those things you failed at and how you would do it better if you encountered a similar opportunity again and it is also about setting some goals for the coming year. Personal Development and opportunities to learn are for me an important aspect of my Wicca path.

Its about remembrance of our ancestors a time when we welcome them into our home to be with us while the veil between worlds is thinnest. Its not about ouiji boards and scaring the pants out of ourselves. I write a letter to one or two of my family members who have passed on, remembering their love and humour and giving thanks for knowing them. The letter is then burnt in the fire to send its message to them (more symbolic than anything else).

If you are not serious about spell work I advise you do not meddle. Spells need to be constructed with care and attention, with love and without any intention to cause harm to another or yourself. I have taken a long time (15 years) to get to where I am fairly confident of the outcome of spellwork, however sometimes I'm still taken by surprise.

You could try some mirror scrying, this is where you sit in front of a large mirror the room lit by candle light only and focus on your reflection and ask those that are will you from the other side who come with love in their hearts to come through, your face will change to theirs. Its quite amazing when it works and a fun group activity. There are undesirable spirits out there so ensure you are only welcoming those which bring positive energy and love. I suggest you create a circle of protection around your home before you do any work relating to spirits.

I hope you enjoy Samhain.

Thank you SO very much for this! I will consider and try these. I would NEVER do a spell with anything but love or to purposely cause any harm. They were just things I had seen on the internet or magazines for abundance, friendship and so on. I planned to have the theme of new beginnings and to celebrate our achievements in the last year and to forcus on our intensions for the next year as we all have new projects we are working on. My friend also reads cards so we were going to do this.

I don't think I will call on any spirits to my home for the pure fact like you mentioned I have no experience in this and wouldn't want to risk!

The important thing is to enjoy the company you keep and have a lot of laughs.
