Hi all,
Oakey and I are off on holiday on Thursday..across the channel to France, Boulogne to be exact, for one week. After the first week we are travelling across to La Rochelle for another week.
The point is that we have only just decided to go to La Rochelle as we have been offered a four bedroom house to stay in as the owners wanted some work done on it. Normally I would have had time to plan sightseeing and research into the local area, I don't even know what the actual name of the place is where we are staying! Oakey says that it begins with P...that helps!!
Anyway to cut a long story short, does anyone have any tips on places to go, we particularly like places of historical or architectural interest.

Hi crabapple. Here's some info about the history of La Rochelle. The Office de Tourisme will have everything you need (maps, etc.) once you get there.

We went there for a weekend a few years ago. Highlights included a boat trip out to see Fort Boyard and a fantastic restaurant called "André" near the port (nice food and lots of atmosphere). The aquarium is also worth a visit.

Hi Crabby
I went to La Rochelle very briefly when I was on a tour years ago. I loved the place (what little I saw of it) but don't remember much of what is to be seen there. I do remember a seafood lunch which was just wonderful (I wasn't paying!) Other than that, sorry can't help but I think you will have a great time. Do take pix and let us know how you get on.

Hi guys and gals,
Thanks for the replies, I had a look at various websites including the one posted (thank you Lumiere), they all look very interesting. Will definitely seek out the seafood restaurant, Sunanda, as I particularly love lobster, crab and prawns.....Still don't know where we are staying though and nowhere near packed!!
Never been so disorganised!
We will have fun though, thanks for your good wishes!!
